We had dinner at the Woodford Café on the recommendation of our hotel, to try some local Trinidad fare. It is located in Movietown, a busy mall just outside downtown Port of Spain, and on Saturday night parking was a bit difficult. This is a supposedly a popular restaurant and bar with a lively atmosphere, but we were underwhelmed by the below-average to average food and indifferent, slow, and unreliable service.
We started with some fairly good Honey BBQ wings (should be noted that BBQ wings are difficult to screw up), but our “main” course of stewed oxtail took over an hour to prepare (not sure if the server forgot to enter the order) and was mostly fat and bone, with very little meat. The local side dishes (with the stewed meats you pick two from a broad list) were ok, but the poor service and lousy meat made the meal truly forgettable. Especially when we paid $25 per person for such [-]. To top it all off, we got no apologies from our server for the long wait for our food, and empty water glasses were removed from the table (instead of refilled) as we waited for our main course.
There are definitely better places in Trinidad at far lower price points than the Woodford Café. Save yourself time and money. Go elsewhere.
