Hyatt Regency Trinidad

Hyatt Port of Spain is a very nice facility. Only a few years old, it is clean, modern and comfortable. This hotel, however, is geared toward business travelers, it is pricey and everything is an additional charge. If you did not go outside, you would not know the difference between this, New York, or Hawaii.

Pros: New, good location, great pool area.
Cons: Key card system is a nuisance, priced like a high end resort destination rather than a third world country, will be nickle and dimed.

Ultimately a satisfactory stay, but will not get any local flavor here if that is what you seek.

Room Tip: Get the ocean view.

I can honestly say the staff are lovely, all the reviews you read about unfriendly or unhelpful staff are untrue, the people are so nice and can never do enough to try and please you.

The food just lets this place down. The menu is so restricted that if you come for a week on business or holiday for that matter, there is little choice and generally the food is of very poor quality. It tastes more like a fast food restaurant with poor quality meat.

It is such a shame that this changes my perspective of an otherwise good trip. Perhaps introduce some variety especially at lunchtime and the weekend

Oh and the glass shower - is a novelty but seriously make the bathroom an actual room, to give space, the fun factor of showering whilst watching television runs out after about 10 mins.

Also the glass door on the toilet - only great for those who want to share lavatorial moments if you happen to be sharing a room!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

For business reasons I had to stay in Trinidad during one year. The company booket me at the Hyatt hotel and I enjoyed every single minut I stayed there.
The employees are extremely friendly and helpfull, to food is good (especially the Japanese Sushi bar) and the housekeepers are efficient.
I spend around 50% of my time in business hotels around the globe and this hotel is clearly one of the best ones I have stayed at so far.

Hyatt was clean and the staff super friendly and professional. Nice hotel with easy, walking access to downtown Port-of-Spain. The hotel is busy with conventions and business guest so if you're looking for an intimate boutique vibe the Hyatt may not be for you. The waterfront patio/bar/restaurant was especially nice. The drinks were awesome! Would stay here again. Also, check out the Breakfast Shed for true Trinidadian food a few doors down on the waterfront. Great food at bargain prices near the Hyatt.

Room Tip: I preferred the soothing waterfront view.

This hotel never ceases to satisfy, in a country which has often dismal customer service and quality in hotel sector this is an oasis. High quality customer service, in a clean, high end hotel, nothing is ever to much trouble. There new years eve bash is great too! Excellent, book with confidence!

Room Tip: high floor

We were in Port of Spain a couple of times during our vacation. We only stayed at the Hyatt once. It was fantastic. Right downtown. Close of everything. Room was sparkling (beware the showers and toleit area are semi-transparent which might not be great for friends traveling together).

Stayed at Kopak for about same price, Hyatt is much better.

Rooms are spacious, new, very clean and well maintained. WIFI and cable is fast. Good selection of cable programs. Shower is a bit strange in the middle of the room surrounded by a glass box but no trouble if yolu are on your own in the room. Sea view rooms have a gorgeous view on the water. There is an excellent gym open 24 hours a day and a nice spa and outdoor pool.

Food is very good in the Waterfront restaurant and morning buffet service is very quick and has a great selection. The hotel taxis a VERY expensive so get them to book you an olutside cab co. or have ylour host arrange this.

The one shortcoming was the laundry service. The lady who cleaned my room usually forgot to put a new laundry bag ands form in my room every night and when I called for it took them so long to deliver it that I would have to leave my room w/o them delivering it. I therefore would have to go to reception to get this. Then when I called for them to pick up the laundry it took so long for them to pick it up from my room I missed the regular service pick up time.
