“Wish we were still there”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2010

We returned to the Beach house for the 4th time this April. For us it is true paradise.
The location, just a few steps from Heavenly Bay, is wonderful.
We stayed in one of the smaller downstairs apartments. These are very simple, but have all you need. The kitchen is very well equipped; we cooked most nights, as we found it rather expensive to eat out (the weak pound doesn't help). My husband loves fishing and went out with Anaconda, a great fisherman, hence we always had fish in the fridge.
The view from the veranda is incredible, and the beach was very quiet. The sunsets were beautiful . Sitting watching the sun goes down, with a rum punch in hand, is such a peaceful experience.
We will return again!

My wife and I stayed for almost two weeks in one of the downstairs studios and found everything to be perfect! The beach was only a few steps away and was practically empty every day. The villa itself was exactly what we hoped for and much more. I am already suggesting this to all my friends!

We stayed in Coconut Heights for our first week of our honeymoon and it was total heaven. I cannot believe our luck in finding such a great place to spend our holiday. The apartment was clean, it had all we needed and there was a warm, welcoming feel about it - a homely atmosphere. We had it all, a wonderful view, the beach, a hammock, fantastic shower! There were hardly any people on the beach - ever. The sea was chock full of fish to discover and the village had basic provisions. Porridge met us at the airport, took us to a supermarket on the way in and he looked after us well! The owners Carole and Graham were wonderful people - great fun and couldn't do enough for us. The location was perfect, we felt like we really were experiencing life as it is lived in the Caribbean. It was fantastic to sit on the balcony listening to the surf, watching the many birds flying to our bird feeder and then whizzing through the apartment - there wasn't a dull moment. Yes, there are local roosters who were quite vocal very early in the morning, the surf is loud and we listened to some very dodgy karaoke when there was a party in one of the houses nearby one night, the bar next door had some entertaining steel drums once a week which were really good! But this is all part and parcel of the experience. So if you want a taste of the real Caribbean and a truly relaxing beach holiday The Beach House is a perfect choice!
Thank you Porridge, Carole and Graham for your smiles, your generosity and your good hearts, we had a wonderful week that we will never forget.

  • Liked — Proximity to beach, the views, how homely it is. That hammock is excellent too.
  • Disliked — That we don't own it!

The friendly fishing village of Castara is probably the prettiest spot
on a lovely island, and the Beach House undoubtedly has the best location in it. Perched just above the aptly-named Heavenly Bay, it offers a beautiful, ever-changing view and almost perfect tranquillity
(the hyper-active rooster next door becomes part of the soundtrack to Paradise, along with the lapping of the waves, after the first night).
The apartment itself (we stayed upstairs at Coconut Heights) is simple
but beautifully decorated and very well-equipped. While Porridge - surely the hardest working man in the Caribbean - is the most congenial and efficient of hosts.

A fabulous little beach, complete with friendly beach cafe, is literally on your doorstep, and unspoilt rainforest is only a short walk away.

If you're looking for 5-star luxury or a wealth of entertainment and eating options, Castara won't be for you. But if you fancy a real taste of laidback island life, the Beach House is the perfect place to find it.

  • Liked — The beachside location and stunning view.
  • Disliked — The mozzies.

We stayed in both downstairs cottages 3/4 nights each and loved our stay. The manager Porridge goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and sort out anything you may need for your stay.
The area is great, not too many tourists around, and Little Bay is very private with good snorkelling just off the beach. The Beach House is literally only a few steps away from the sand.
An excellent choice if you're looking for a chilled out place to relax.
I'd also reccommend renting a car for a few days to see the rest of the island. Englishmans bay is just over the hill and when we were there we were the only people on the beach.

If you're looking for accommodation off the beaten track and a beach that is sometimes yours alone, I do not hesitate to recommend the Beach House. My apartment was simple and well-kept, kitchen facilities more than adequate, and the view over the Caribbean Sea lovely. You will be visited by tropical birds, lizards, free-range chickens, and dogs. Little Bay is a good spot for snorkeling too. A little corner of paradise.

  • Liked — the beach and the view
  • Disliked — the steep walk to the village

Spent an all too short 6 nights in the Coconut Heights apartment which is the whole top floor. Open air living overlooking the beach at Heavenly Bay, with loads of space and everything you need from enclosed bedroom, to hammock and fully equipped kitchen. Castara is really laid back and non commercial and Porridge and Jeanelle couldn't be more helpful, including providing car hire if you need it. Shopped on the way in but plenty of local choices for dinner if you don't want to cook. We didn't try Jeanelle's cooking but wished we had after hearing the reports. Kelly can take you on an excellent local rainforest walk and the Argylle Waterfall is well worth the climb. Just don't expect much sleep – between the crashing surf, the mad cockerel (thinks sunrise is 3.30 am!) and the occasional late night action at The Boathouse next door, most of our snoozing was caught up on during the day!
Would definitely go back though – a real gem.
