Firstly we have to say that Adam the owner of these apartments is very welcoming and does more than is warranted to ensure your stay in Castara is a good one by personally escorting you around the small "village" which is delightful. There are a few restaurants/cafes which are very laid back which give a persoal service, however not all open every day but there is always somewhere to eat if not self catering.
The apartments are fairly basic but have everything one needs to enjoy your holiday. There are mobile fans which are needed when hot and humid. The kitchen area supplies all that is required
The view through the trees to the sea from the balcony at sunset is lovely and I suggest a rum punch as you do it. The family live below the apartment and there is a dog and chicken on the premiseswhich add further interest. The owner Adam is opening a restaurant on the premises which when fully functioning could be good. At present he happily opens and cooks for his guests. I enjoyed a lovely steak cooked by him.
It is a lovely 500 metre walk down the steep road to the gorgeous beach at Castara, not such an easy walk back in the heat of the day but we managed it every evening to eat out. You feel quite virtuous on reaching the apartment and fully deserving of dessert if you have had one. Castara is delightful and
there is lovely snorkelling from Little Bay which is another little beach next to Castara main beach however I managed to snorkel it from the Castara
We loved Castara and if you are looking for reasonably priced basic accomodation I can highly recommend Sandcastles. The towels and bedlinen were changed once during the week we were there. There is a bookcase and games if you require extra interest and iI believe our host would do anything to improve ones stay if within his means.
We felt very safe everywhere on the island of Tobago and hired a car and toured all around this beautiful island. If you are lucky you will see the locals fishing and dragging in the nets which gives insight into locals life. Also there is a waterfall a few minutes walk from Castara where the swim is very refreshing and so lovely to have it to yourself. Entertainment is low key withe the cafes/restaurants providing bbq's or local steel pan bands. Lovely. An added bonus is that all the fish has been caught that day and so fresh.
Overall we loved Castara.
