“Ideal location, spectacular hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

We spent four wonderful days with your hosts at Gloucester, Win and Bea, in January 2013. Parletuvier is as non-touristy as it gets, while Bea and Win deserve all the plaudits others have mentioned for their warm, welcoming, hospitality: this is like an ongoing house party of comfortable conversation, excellent accommodation, and great good...including an evening meal if you want (alternatives in the area are pretty limited). You have great access to whatever-you-had-in-mind, from snorkeling to some of the best birding in the Caribbean, pleasant walk to a waterfall, watching the fishermen, etc. Outstanding value, yet it's the warm welcome that makes this a #1 on our list.

When we arrived to the property late from Port of Spain (delayed flight) and didn't have the chance to get dinner before arriving, Bea threw together a lovely fish soup and green salad for us; totally unexpected! That gesture made us feel right at home and we knew that we picked the right place to stay. Win and Bea were great giving us tips on where to go and what to avoid during our short stay. The house has great views and is in an area with hardly anyone around. It is perfect place to GET AWAY FROM THE MADNESS of a large urban area. The rooms are nice, nothing fancy but you are not there to spend time locked up and laying in bed all day. No TV is a great thing for that remote feeling, which I did like. The breakfast in the morning is just the right amount of food to last until you make the trek to wherever you go during the day.

In short, if you want a place that is quiet, close to some great sites on the north side of the island and with hosts that don't get in your way, this will be your cup of tea. Oh, I forgot to mention, you WILL mingle with other guests (if there are any) and it is amazing the connections you make.

Thanks Bea and Win.

We enjoyed our stay at Gloucester Place. It is a beautiful house in an outstanding location overlooking the bay near Parlatuvier. The hosts, Bea and Win, are a slightly eccentric American couple who are charming and hospitable. We found them very open and good company with their many stories, but they will leave you in privacy if you prefer. We felt very much at home here and would love to go back.

We arrived in Parlatuvier after a few days in Speyside. What an excellent idea my wife had to get away at Gloucester Place. The setting is amazing with waterfalls, lush grounds, wildlife and stunning views. The accommodations were comfortable, cheery and well thought out. The house flows from one room to the next taking advantage of stone, wood and masonry. Large sliding doors open to wonderful views and comfy patios. The view from the infinity pool is unbelievable. The hosts Bea and Winn make the stay complete. We felt like welcomed family and thoroughly enjoyed their culinary and social skills. We were sad to leave our new friends and relish the memories and photos we took with us.

Just returned from a week's stay at Gloucester Place with my wife and 3 year old girl. Not sure where to begin. Tobago is a breathtaking place, and much of the success of our trip can be traced to the boundless care, concern and hospitality offered by Bea and Win, the proprietors of the Gloucester. First off, the house itself is an architectural wonder; a true work of art, ergonomically built into a lush mountain scape overlooking the Caribbean sea. Everything about this house -- from the verandah outside our bedroom, to the infinity pool built into the mountain, to the dining area that opens out onto a terrace -- has been meticulously designed to maximize the exquisite beauty of the property. You simply can't find this kind of natural splendor, not to mention space, staying in one of the bigger villages. Of course, traveling to a remote island with a three year old presents its own set of challenges, and Bea and Winn went beyond the call of duty to ensure that we were oriented and free of any/all inconveniences. Some examples. When the bank machine in the local village didnt accept my Bank of America card, Bea offered to drive 45 min (each way !!!) to a bank on the other side of the island to take out money for us. When I got a flat tire, Win insisted on going out and shopping for a replacement....while my family basked poolside. Unbelievable, right? They simply didnt want us spending time on anything that might compromise our relaxation. They clearly LOVE their job and take tremendous pride in their ability to make their guests happy. For what it's worth, here was our daily routine. Up at 8am. Breakfast made-to-order by Bea, a fabulous cook. Winn would then give us suggestions for (and directions to) a morning adventure. [Highlights: The drive/hike to Pirate's Bay beach (the most beautiful on the island) in Charlottesville. Hiking through the rainforest with my family. The myriad goats, cows, lizards, and exotic birds that drove my 3 year old nuts!] We'd find lunch along the way, based on Winn's restaurant suggestions. Return to give my toddler a midday nap. Spend the afternoon lounging poolside [FYI: the pool has a sizable shallow area, perfect for a toddler to play in], exploring the hotel grounds, playing with Wonder the house dog. In the evening, we'd drive to Castera (10-15 min away) and dine on fresh fish at Margarit's, followed by ice-cream at the Coffee House. And then in bed by 9. We just fell into this perfect groove, and the week drifted by like a dream. Thank you Win and Bea for your generosity, friendship and expertise. A+++++++

Room Tip: The Concord opens onto a gorgeous terrace.

We stayed in Essex Cottage over the Christmas period. The tree house property is just fantastic with stunning views. The open plan living and kitchen area with the spacious verandah and shutters that open the entire length of the property gives the feeling of absolute freedom. The owners of the property Bea and Win are wonderful people and extremely helpful. It was a treat having Wonder Dog to accompany us on the beautiful local walks, a real friend with a lot of character. The location is superb to sample and discover the real Tobago, yet still in easy reach of splendid beaches and local villages. We found everyone in the villages very friendly and very helpful. What a pleasure to order such thinks as banana bread and pumpkin bread from someones home and then go back later to collect it when its still warm and fresh. If you fancy going to Tobago and sample the real way of life go and stay with Bea and Win you will have treasured memories forever.Thank you so mucn for your friendship and kindness, we WILL return.

Room Tip: Essex Cottage, private, stunning views, very very special.

My husband and I stayed three nights at Gloucester Place, and we can't recommend it enough. We stayed in the Concord room, and it was very comfortable and quiet. Beautiful views on the patio and from the room. The house is great, and we enjoyed the breakfasts. Because of our short stay, we chose not to rent a car. Thankfully, Bea and Win helped us to arrange a taxi ride to/from the airport to the lodging. The ride is so very winding- I recommend Dramamine for anyone who is prone to getting carsick. Overall, we felt very comfortable without a car. We were able to walk down to Parlatuvier Bay often (where we could snorkel from the beach and swim). We were able to walk to the nearby waterfall and take a dip- so so pretty! We also walked to Englishman's Bay, which took us about 25-30 minutes each way. There, we were able to eat at a small restaurant for lunch. I definitely recommend Englishman's Bay- very secluded and remote. Another couple at the house graciously gave us a ride in their car to Castara, which was also a nice beach but less secluded. The infinity pool at the house was really nice as well. As far as meals go, we enjoyed great breakfasts at the house. For lunch, we ate at the house one day and the others were at Englishman's Bay. For dinner, we ate at Joann's house by the beach two nights and with Bea and Win the last night. Overall, the village was full of friendly, kind people and the island is breathtaking. The hosts were very helpful and generous, and we appreciated everything that they did for us. Great getaway for sure!
