Manta House
Reviewed 27 January 2013

We intend to make diving Grand Turk with the Manta House as home base a regular event. Couldn't have asked for anything more. We shared the middle bungalow with 2 other couples and had plenty of space to cook and relax. Shoes were optional - 50 steps from the beach front and Sandbar, where we enjoyed the sunsets each evening. Two of our group snorkeled from the beach our first afternoon there and found a nurse shark. Tanya and Katya were so accommodating without being intrusive.

I never write these kind of things.. However, after my amazing trip I felt I had to. I stayed at Manta House for two weeks this January 2013. Along with my sisters and niece. I live in NY my sister England, My other sister California. From the moment we landed Patsy [the local friendly taxi driver] took us to Manta House. We were greeted by two amazing sisters Tanya and Katya who made us feel like part of their family from day one.
Their bungalows are gorgeous. Clean, updated and comfortable. We spent most of our evenings on our deck playing cards, drinking rum punches listening to the ocean. OR... at the Sandbar.
The girls took us grocery shopping when ever we needed. ANd just went that extra mile to make my 50th birthday so special. We are already booking for next year!!!
The people, the place and the ocean draws you in. We didn't want to leave.
5 stars from me.

Room Tip: all the rooms are amazing

We stayed in the North Bungalow for 9 nights and found Tonya & Katya to be warm, fun-loving, and attentive throughout our stay. They enthusiastically shared their knowledge of the island--ranging from grocery stores to where we could buy an odd size battery. Their bar/restaurant across from the bungalow was the ideal place to eat delicious (and relatively inexpensive) meals and hang out with the locals--who proved to be just as friendly. We had clean accommodations, a well-equipped kitchen, a nice backyard deck and hammock, and a front patio with an ocean view. Located on Duke Street, a narrow, one-way lane, we were in a quiet, relaxing neighborhood. The location exceeded our expectations--everything was a short walk away (Oasis Divers, Secret Garden, Osprey Hotel restaurant, liquor store, etc.). We rarely used the rental car since we preferred the surrounding community over the other parts of the island. We plan to return next year and stay at Manta House again. It's as close to being paradise as we've ever found.

Room Tip: The walls in the second bedroom and bathroom don't meet the ceiling, given the design of this hi...

We stayed in the middle bungalow with another couple for 8 nights in April. We had an additional couple join for 4 of the nights and stay in the jungle bungalow.

Katya arranged transportation with Patsy to and from the airport. Patsy was very nice and took us to 2 stores for “supplies” and would wave and chat with us when passing the manta house.

The manta house bungalows are in a great location, across from a small beach and the Sand Bar restaurant, next door to the Secret Garden resaurant, down the street from the Osprey restaurant and just steps away from 3 dive shops.

The middle bungalow has 3 bedrooms with individual climate control. The larger, master bedroom is in the back, has its own ensuite bathroom, couch, tv and private deck. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom that is located off the kitchen. The full kitchen was nicely stocked with the essentials.

Katya was very nice and helpful and checked in on us daily. She was quick to get anything we needed and assist with any issues. The a/c in the master bedroom was not working well so she had someone out to fix it. The hot water heater for the house was not working, leaving us without hot water for 24 hours, however, she was able to get a new tank quickly. She brought us a DVD player and iron upon request. She drove us the the cruise ship area twice, to pickup our rental car for the day and to pickup dinner one night which was very nice and saved our group of 6 quite a bit of money since taxi’s are per person and expensive to go even a short distance.

There are not many places to eat, however, our favorite was BBQ night at Guanahani. The Sand Bar is convenient, less expensive than most places, and very good. Secret Garden at the Salt Raker was also good and the Osprey just ok. We, also, had pizza delivered from Mookie Pookie pizza which was decent but pricey.

Unless you are a diver, I would not recommend this island. It is very small, in bad condition, not much to do, and very expensive. For example, a case of coors light was $72. The local turks head beer is cheaper at about $50/case.

Of our group of 6, 3 were divers and dove with Oasis and enjoyed it. Our group of 6 did 2 excursions to salt caye and gibbs caye and and they were just ok . . . expensive, on the small dive instead of an excursion boat and in rough water.

I would, highly, recommend the Manta House if you are traveling to grand turk.

The Manta House is the best place to stay on the island. We stayed in the middle cottage which has three bedrooms and two baths. Everyone that worked there was great. Mary would come in and clean our cottage every day (having three teeanagers there made this very helpful). The Sandbar across the street was a great place for lunch and dinner after a day of diving (Blue Waters Divers). There is a full kitchen and each bedroom has a cable tv in it. I ran (by myself) four days in the morning and I felt safe every morning. When the cruise boats come in they run tours that come by the Manta House and if you walk about half a mile on the same road they set up an outdoor market for the tourists. What a great place!!

We had a wonderful visit at the Manta House. The Canadian sister Tonya and Katya have the great ability to make one feel at home yet make sure everything is done for you to fill comfortable. We stayed in the middle bungalow for a week and then moved to the two bedroom for three days. When we asked questions or had a request it was cheerfully answered and handled. We LOVED the location of the Manta House. We sat on our front porches and watched and participated in life in Grand Turk as it walked by. On the days the cruise ships did not dock we had a taste of what island life had been like for years. We loved having the kitchens to cook in and we loved having the Sandbar directly across the street for lunches and casual dinners or watching the sunset. We grew to love Ginger Beer...an island invention. We would definitely stay at Manta every time. From the North bungalow, the two bedroom you can see the beach and ocean. From the middle bungalow, the fence blocks the view but that was not a deal as we can hear it. The sister just seemed to make it easy for us every day. We are divers and our room was serviced while we were out on the dives. Don't miss the Secret Garden restaurant next door as it has its own charm also.

Room Tip: The middle bungalow can handled families as it had three bedrooms and two baths. The North bungalow...

I have been going to Grand turk for the past few years and I always find myself back at Manta House. I like to rent the North Bungalow, it is spacious with two beautiful bedrooms, comfortable beds, central A/C, living room with cable TV and DVD player. A beautiful dining table and an everything you need to cook kitchen. The beach it is actually 26 steps from the front door (yes I actually counted my steps) and the famous with locals and tourist alike sandbar. The sandbar has just the perfect island food cooked with love and dedication, friendly service and they can make just about any drink you would like. At night they might have soft music playing or it might be a party if you find yourselves amongst friends. The owners the Viera sisters Katia and Tonya are the perfect hosts, they take care of every single detail to make you feel at home. Their personal touch can be noticed everywhere at Manta house or at the Sandbar their friendliness and professionalism will enchant you.
Just down the road from Manta house there is a supermarket with everything you need and more. Katia and Tonya really make you experience Grand Turk they way it should be experienced, without worries.... They will even arrange your ride form the airport to Manta House, they are also very knowledgable of the hot spots in the island and will recommend only the best when it comes to scuba diving and more. My money and time are always well invested at Manta House.

Room Tip: Any room at Manta House is a good room! <3
