“Snorkeling great . . . Tour could be better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

We definitely enjoyed snorkeling in Grand Turk. The wall, Gibbs Caye and the reef were amazing. My issues weren't with the snorkeling but the tour. We followed the directions to where we were supposed to meet when we got off the boat but we had to wait over 30 minutes for our tour guide to arrive. We sat and watched many other tours take off. When our guide did come he didn't have enough equipment so we had to waste more time and stop at the office to pick up more fins. By the time we got to snorkeling there were many boats out and we had to move to different areas that were less crowded. I would have felt less rushed if we would have started earlier like the other tours.

Thank you for your review and for participating on TripAdvisor. We are sorry we were late. As much as we like to try and run things on "German Train Time" sometimes it's more like "Island Time". We try and go to snorkel and dives sites when there are not a lot of people already there so it means either beating the crowds by being first ( like everyone else tries to do ) or coming a little later after the crowds have gone. It would have been much better if your boat Captain was on time and then explained this concept as opposed to simply being late. Again our apologies for being a bit late.

We are seriously considering starting tours later, rather than as soon as possible after the cruise ship docks. So instead of starting at 0815, maybe 0845 to 0900 as the crowds at the sites would be less, the light is better towards midday and there would be a lot less boat traffic at the pickup point. One problem with everyone being "first" is that everyone is there at pretty much the same time. Also consider that the few sites frequented by the Ship's tours are not necessarily the best snorkel or dive sites on the Island. Not meant to be an excuse for our tardiness, just thinking aloud how to best serve our clients.

We understand there is an urgency to get in the water right away after docking but we believe that the snorkeling is better at some sites not used by the Ship's tours and that a small group in the water is preferable to a large group of people at the same site for a lot of reasons. Safety (easier to keep an eye on people) and a higher probability of seeing wildlife that may be "shy" or spooked by 60+ people splashing about being a couple of reasons that come to mind.

As a result of your review we have instituted a policy of asking clients their fins sizes before reaching us to try and avoid a situation you encountered which was not enough fins of the same size on board. Most of the time we have enough of the right size fins on board. We'll do better to assure we don't have a repeat of the shortage you encountered in the future. Thanks for bringing it to our attention and we would look forward to comments from anyone who would care to take the time to contact us. Again our apologies for delaying your tour.

“Jake is the man!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Chris in the office was super friendly and helpful. Before we arrived she had even emailed an atv company for us as we had expressed interest in the dune buggies (but those were only for cruise ship passengers). We ended up doing the Gibbs Cay 1/2 day snorkeling trip. There was a little miscommunication about where to meet, but its all good. We first went to pick up just a couple cruise ship people and headed out with Jake to Library reef. The small group was much more pleasurable than going with 25+ people! Jake was a great guide. Very laid back, really fun to be with for the day and like a previous reviewer said-knows all about good customer service. When the bigger boats came, we just went to a different spot. Gibbs Cay was beautiful. There was a gentleman with another company who would pick up the sting rays and then let you hold them. It was a super fun day and we are so glad we went with GT Diving and Jake! We got some awesome pics and made some great memories. Highly recommend these guys!

“Snorkeling Fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2014

Hi, these guys were great our ship changed docking times and when I didn't check my emails and didn't realize they changed the time to coincide they still made sure we made it out at our original time. Small boat size for advanced snorkelers without the crowds, we arrived right after the large boats left, sweet. They take a deposit but no problem if cruise ship cancels and it was nice to have the option of credit card payment without an extra charge. Would book again!

“These guys are the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2014

Took my 18 year old son on a two tank dive. Our guide.. Smitty was wonderful, my son wasn't certified and Smitty was very attentive...he even gave an old diver like me some very helpful buoyancy tips.

Clean, well stocked dive center and of course unbelievable dives.

Above and beyond...my son left his flip flops on the boat....they actually shipped them back to me !!!

“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2014

My son arranged for us to charter a boat thought GT Diving for ten family members. In my opinion This was planned rather last minute. My son emailed the shop before we left on the cruise ship and his emails were responded to very quickly. Jake met us on the beach by the port and took us to four locations for snorkeling. He briefed us and then took us to four locations. He tried hard to keep us away from the larger companies so that we would maximize our snorkeling experience. We all had a great time and felt it was some of the best snorkeling we had ever done. I would recommend GT Diving to anyone who would like a more personnel experience.
