This was our first visit to Turks and Caicos. I did much research in selected our accommodations. The West Bay Club was even better than I expected. In my research there were several comments regarding slow service which I was concerned about...but most all the resorts had the same comment. Anyways, you'll come to find things are just a little slower because everyone is on "Island Time"!! Just loosen up and relax like the locals and the slower pace will kick in with you too! As for the West Bay Club...we stayed in an Ocean View Luxury Suite. The room was very well appointed and the view was spectacular. The property provided a very private and tranquil setting. We never had any problem getting chairs at the pool or the beach. The beach attended was very helpful in setting up our chairs, towels, assisting with the hobie cat...etc. The entire staff was courteous and Renee the concierge was terrific in making our dinner plans. Stormin Normin our bartender was terrific also...he mixes up a great Rum Punch. Oh, I also loved that WBC has bikes that you can take out. We rode down to the Green Bean for breakfast, which was great. You can also walk the beach and snorkeling is within walking distance. We will definitely return!!

Stayed 5 nights in unit 109 - beautiful outdoor two-level patio for dining, lounging. Not considered ocean front, but truly was ocean front (1BR luxury I believe). Ground floor is great for walk out, but you only see the water (not the sand) so higher floor would be better if you want a higher view. I thought it was very tranquil. One of the big questions at this resort is availability of restaurants within walking distance. I went to Mango Reef in the Alexandra (35 minute walk on beach each way), Bay Bisro in Sibbonne (40 min walk on bch), Caicos Cafe (50 min walk on beach then across the road) and Gansevort next door. I also ate at the Atlantic Cafe in WBC both lunch twice and dinner once. All in all - not terribly impressed by food on the island - not bad, just not memorable. The best things were the coffee-rubbed tuna at Bay Bistro (very good, but very light as a lunch plate) and the grilled fish burger at Atlantic Cafe - really excellent piece of fish (although I had grilled snapper at dinner and it wasn't as stellar).

WBC is very nice - least crowded beach; easy to get pool chairs; pretty (but smaller) infinity pool; and really well appointed rooms. Beautiful set up for kitchen/washer dryer/extra half bath nice, etc. My only comment is this - it is set up very well for families with small children - and therefore you get a number of families with small children. And of course there are always those annoying parents and children - how many times can you listen to "Charles - I said no" or the couple in 409 whose child was wailing on the balcony every time you went outside? But other than a few annoying parents, this place was great!

I saw some comments that people were approached on the beach by staff trying to sell trips. I was on the beach most days, all day, and never approached. I used the kayaks and paddleboards, and the staff were over the top accomodating. The only time I saw them offer to sell trips or parasailing was when guests asked them for recommendations, or said "I'm interested in a snorkeling trip" and then the staff gave them recommendations or brochures.

Took the Big Blue stand up paddleboard tour - it was fantastic. Ray was our guide, and we gently glided by large starfish, live conch, two different kinds of sharks (small - 3', big ones don't live in the shallow waters), sting ray, and Ray stopped to show us very cool jelly fish that we would have overlooked if he had not taken the time to show us. It is a little more physical than the brochure leads you to believe, takes core strength and a bit of leg and arm muscles, but really easy to pick up and very fun! And you can always kneel down and paddle like that if need be.

Beaches are beautiful - other than snorkeling or water sports, there is not much to do, but you come here for the beaches.

Pros
- location (see below)
- location to snorkeling (5-10 minute walk to Coral gardens) (30 minute walk to turtle cove)
- beach staff (super friendly and very attentive)
- free beach activities (paddle boarding, kayaking, kite boarding, sailing on hoby cat, snorkel gear, kids toys, soccer balls, and many other beach toys) all included
- wifi everywhere
- free breakfast was more than sufficient!
- beautiful pool
- mini fridge and cable in room
- very friendly hotel staff too

Cons
- location (while quieter, you have a longer walk 30+ minutes to the good restaurants or taxi which is about $7pp each way)
- as stated skip eating lunch or dinner at the resort. they should put in a nice restaurant like many others have done. we ate there once for lunch and while ok not as good as many others.
- beach staff seems a bit pushy with asking if we wanted them to reserve "parasailing" or other "paid" activities. they must get a percentage of the reservation b/c we were asked twice a day.

Location: as others have stated West Bay is located towards the end of a string of hotels on the island giving it a quieter more tranquil feel from the busy and crowded locations such as the "The Beaches" an all inclusive resort. The beach at West Bay Club is much larger in length too...after walking up and down the entire coast West Bay Club offers a bigger quieter beach than any of the centrally located hotels. The only draw back is if you plan to walk to places to eat...your options are more limited b/c of the proximity from the other hotels. Although we walked easily to Bay Bistro and Mango Reef which we highly recommend.

Snorkeling: one of our main desires was to snorkel every day. West Bay Club is probably the best hotel for snorkeling as it centrally located between both Coral Gardens( 5-10 walk to right) and Turtle Cove (30 minute walk to left). Start with coral gardens but definitely venture to turtle cove b/c its more secluded and larger areas to explore. snorkel fins are recommended.

I would definitely recommend to others!

We stayed from 3/1-3/6/12. The room was modern, sleek (pictures attached). It had a beach view from terrace, but we knew that the lower price (still over $400 after taxes/service) was less important to us. Room has kitchenette and laundry along with a second terrace view of pool. Service was excellent and continental breakfast was good. Small gym, but it does the trick if you need to work-out. Pool is excellent for kids.

Crowd was generally in 30-40 range. Beach was beautiful, with free water sport options available such as Hobie cat, paddle boarding, and snorkel gear. About 10 minute walk to the right (east) was Coral Gardens with excellent snorkeling, but it was not crowded.

A better snorkeling location was Smith's reef. It is about a mile walk to the left of the hotel (west) and it was fairly quiet. We saw a turtle and small shark (picture included), but snorkeling was great - saw Queen Angelfish, starfish and plenty of other colorful fish along with a couple of small schools of squid.

Not many shady spots, as opposed to the numerous umbrella spots at the hotel, but definitely worth the visit. If you drive as we did, go west and stay on beach road and make right at Green Bean Cafe. Take to end of road and then turn left. Go to end of road and continue down small alleyway (picture) and parking is right there.

We also went out to Malcolm Beach. It is a nice deserted location, but a bumpy road to parking lot. No shade as well.

Couple of good dining spots - Coco Bistro, Coyaba (excellent and pricey). O'Soleil/Magnolia - not bad. Hemingway was mediocre.

Car came in handy, especially for restaurants.

Turks and Caicos is quite stunning and we didn't even go to other islands. It is pricey however.
West Bay Club was overall worth it for us.

Enjoy!

My friend and I stayed for 6 nights in a one bedroom suite with an oceanfront balcony at the WBC. After scouring reviews for hotels in the Grace Bay area we decided on the WBC because of great prices and good looking pics on their website. We are so happy that we decided to stay at the WBC vs. Reef Residences or the Coral Bay Club because the beach around their hotels was narrower and the hotels were right next to each other - more crowded than at the WBC. Our room was spacious - modern appliances in the fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, free wi-fi, giant flat screen, comfortable bed and very roomy bathroom. The oceanfront balcony was awesome! Service was excellent - William and Eduardo were so friendly and helpful at the beach. Even though it was high season, they made sure everyone had umbrellas and chairs. Housekeeping did ring our doorbell even though we had our privacy sign up, but other than that we had an excellent time at the WBC.

We stayed a week this February in a one bed deluxe. Our last visit was a year ago May. Again, no complaints regarding the condo, it was nicely appointed, with a very large balcony with sitting and dining area, and the view was gorgeous. As all others have said, I think it is the best value on the beach, and the best location as well. Housekeeping do a great job and the grounds are pristine. Yes, the breakfast and get boring after a while, but that was not a great concern for us. Yes, the pool is on the smaller side, but the whole condo complex is smaller than most. Again, not a concern as we spent most days touring to other beaches. We would not hesitate to return - maybe this fall.

Room Tip: deluxe rooms on higher floors for the view

I just came back from the West Bay Club in a first-ever trip to Turks and Caicos. This was an annual girls trip with five other moms from my town. We are pretty picky about where we stay and always stay at very nice places (ie: The Ritz). We absolutely loved WBC. We had the three bedroom penthouse and it was awesome. Each bedroom was very spacious and had its own large full bath. The shower in 503A (the bedroom with the balcony) had awful water pressure and although they tried to fix it, it didn't get any better. That however was our only complaint of the rooms. The penthouse (which was really two units connected (503 and 503A) had a full kitchen, dining area, living room, as well as a laundry room with a 1/2 bath, a bar area with wine fridge and another washer/dryer in one of the bedrooms. The balcony had plenty of furniture and overlooked the gorgeous ocean.

The staff was very accommodating (Stormin Norman even found my diamond necklace that fell off my neck and returned it to me). The rooms were cleaned wonderfully each day with a second set of fresh towels delivered at the end of each day so you could take a shower before dinner and have fresh towels.

The pool was very pretty (not huge), but plenty of seating around the pool with additional more private little alcove type areas and two hammocks for a late afternoon snooze. The hotel itself is not huge so it is a very short distance from your room to hitting the sand on the beach which is a huge plus if you forget something in the room or just want to go back and have lunch, snack or grab an alcoholic beverage of your own.

The only thing we didn't love was the restaurant. The Continental breakfast which was included in our package was great (fresh fruit, warm hardboiled eggs, toast, bagels, danishes, etc...), but the lunch we had immediately upon checking in was just adequate. The turkey in the turkey club was spongy and the nachos were made with an airy kind of chip instead of tortilla chips. So on future days we just opted to dine elsewhere..."Somewhere on the Beach" is a short walk on the beach and was great. And the Gansevoort Hotel next door was good for lunch as well.

So other than the water pressure in one of the showers and the restaurant, we loved WBC and highly recommend it. It's my choice for our girls trip again next year.

Room Tip: 503 and 503A connected to accommodate 6 people (could probably have a 7th because the sofa in the li...
