“great location, great grounds, overall a nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2011

Overall, this hotel was great. I would recommend it to others. We had an ocean view room on the 3rd floor so we had a great view and a nice breeze. The hotel grounds are really pretty, and they have a 'kid' pool and an adult pool which was also really nice. We paid under $150/night including taxes, which we thought was a great deal for this area of Turks+Caicos.

The only issues we had were:
The food at the hotel was overpriced and low quality, but the kitchenette(full fridge, microwave, some bowls/plates/silverware) was good enough that we could cook for ourselves.
The maid service was poor. One day they forgot to clean our room entirely, and another day they forgot to bring towels. It took several phone calls to fix both issues.
The A/C in our room was really flaky. It kept blowing the circuit breaker, and they were not able to fix it while we were there.
We wanted a king bed, but were given a queen... but we survived.

This was our first time in Turks and Caicos and the RWI made it a memorable one. Very friendly and helpful staff. The multiple pools were refreshing. The rooms were clean and RWI had the best beach. We visited other hotels such as Coral Gardens (which has the Somewhere Cafe) and their beach was micro in comparison to RWI. After visiting other hotels/resorts I was glad we booked the RWI. The area was safe to walk to and from the casino (casablana) at 3am. We did not get a chance to eat at the Pelican Bay restaraunt so we cannot comment on it, but the staff came around the beach and pool to see if we needed any food or beverages. The only thing I would like to see at RWI is more activity such as live bands (they have the room for it) and dancing. We will be returning to RWI.

Room Tip: If you like the overlook the ocean request building 1.

We spent 8 nights at RWI at the end of June. This was our first trip to The Turks & Caicos islands. We used Trip Advisor exclusively in trying to choose which resort to stay at. We stayed in a one bedroom suite and loved it. It was very large and clean. Having the full kitchen and the washer and dryer in the room were great. Our room overlooked the quiet pool. The grounds are as beautiful as everyone has mentioned. And Grace Bay Beach is the nicest beach we have ever seen. There were quite a few reviews that mentioned the general unfriendliness of the staff, but we did not encounter that at all. Every time we needed something, approached someone, or simply walked past them on the sidewalk, we always got a smile and a nice greeting. We were also a little concerned with potential noise from Club Med next door, but we never heard a thing from them. We did rent a car during our stay and it was well worth it. We did cover virtually the entire island.

The highlight of the week for me was my scuba diving. I dove with Flamingo Divers and would highly recommend them. They only take a maximum of 8 divers on any trip, so you don't feel crowded. Jayne and Mick were wonderful. We saw sharks, sting rays, and barracudas on our dives. The water was so warm. The majority of the divers wore nothing more than their swimsuits.

We ate at Chinsons ($15 per person), Pizza Pizza ($16), Hemingways ($35 pp), and Las Brisas ($15 pp). They were all good, and we thought they were all reasonably priced. Our favorite was Las Brisas. We ate there twice. It sits on Chalk Sound and is an incredibly gorgeous setting. About two minutes from Las Brisas is Sapodilla Bay. The access to this was hard to find, but the bay is beautiful although the beach is very small. We then tried to find the access to Taylor Bay but couldn't. When we got back to RWI we asked about Taylor bay and we were told that the access to Talyor Bay had recently been closed.

If you like to snorkle we would recommend that you go to Coral Gardens Beach. This is about a 5 minute drive from RWI. We drove there to snorkle on 4 of our 7 days. They have an area roped off that no one is allowed to swim in because of fire coral, but if you snorkle around the edge of this you will have sensational snorkeling.

Overall, if you simply want to go relax and enjoy the warm clear water and the beauty of the multiple beaches, we thought this was the best spot ever. If you want a wider variety of things to do, more nightlife, more activities, we would probably recommend that you go somewhere other than Turks & Caicos. We will certainly go back to T&C and we will stay at the RWI again. We wouldn't have changed a thing!!

CHECKING IN
Horrible experience - although we confirmed multiple times before our stay we would be arriving at 1:30pm they didn't have our room ready until 3pm and that was because we asked each time she gave us a window. We held them to the times they told us and they were often times wrong. The set the stage for not so great of an experience.

ROOMS
The rooms are nice actually - they have a kitchenette and washer/dryer combo which is very nice. The bathrooms and rooms themselves are a nice size and the balconies are also roomy. If you've got a 3rd floor room though, you won't be able to sit outside if it's raining because those balconies have no covering. We had a massive issue with ants in our room and when we called - they kind of gave us the impression "that's what you get in the islands" but having stayed at other resorts in T&C I know this isn't the case.
The ants destroyed most of the food we bought at the IGA as well as food we brought with us and it wasn't cheap food.

AMENITIES
Be prepared to not be able to use the advertised amenities. The quiet pool was closed 2 times during our 4 day stay, as was the hot tub. The loud pool with all the kids seemed to always be open, but that water was cold! Also, they advertise they have bikes to use with a 2 hour limit, well get ready to walk because you'll never get your hands on a bike. Anytime we called to ask about them, the staff was rude and unhelpful. 2 separate nights we called at 4:30pm because the bikes have to be returned by 6pm and we were told to keep checking and we did and got nothing. We actually found the same 3 bikes (I think there are only 6 total) were chained to a palm tree outside building #1 for 2 days! So those people go to enjoy the bikes but others did not. I also saw some folks asking about the sailboats but instead were given masks and mouthpieces for snorkeling - no fins. Not sure if the boats were working or if there was no staff to help with them, but we didn't seem them in use once during our stay.

STAFF
Having been to T&C before, this staff does not represent belongers very well. They are not friendly, not helpful, and won't go out of their way for anything. They act bothered if you ask them anything and they try to dismiss you as soon as possible. The only person who appreared to be friendly was the gal at the activity desk - and she was selling trips and adventures for extra costs so that's no surprise.

LOCATION
The hotel has an OK location - right on the beach which was great, but a good 3/4-1 mile walk to the Provo Shops and the IGA. If you had bikes, this would be a breeze, but walking in the heat can be tiring. It's a great adventure though!

GROUNDS
The grounds were very well maintained and the grounds staff was very nice

CHECKING OUT
Again, another nightmare. After confirming 3 times we'd be able to stay in our room until 11:30am they tried to call us at 11am to tell us we needed to leave the room now because of guests checking in. After getting them to understand we had confirmed both the day before twice and the morning of, they did allow us to stay the extra 30 minutes without the normal "late check out fee" of $55 which seemed insane for even 60 minutes. We had arranged for a taxi at 11:45am which never showed up. At 11:45am I asked them to call the taxi and they told me 5 minutes. 5 minutes later I went in and asked and was told 5 more minutes. At 12:00pm I went in and explained if we didn't get a taxi soon we'd miss our 2pm flight as we planned to be there 2 hours prior as suggested. Only then did they call to confirm the cab was right nearby. It was a process!

I hope this rating is helpful - because although the price of this establishment is cheap, you get what you pay for.

Each condo is owned but the resort is run like a standard resort. We actually stayed here because we were considering buying a condo - but I can't imagine they get much re-peat business so I can't imagine the rental income is very strong here.

Save yourself the hassle, spend a little more and stay elsewhere on Grace Bay beach.

We stayed one week in a 3rd floor 1 bedroom just off the pool restaurant area. The unit was lovely and the 3 pools available were very nicely kept in lush garden settings. The restaurant was fabulous, I highly recommend trying the island breakfast, a delicious sautéed creole style fish and grit combo, soooo good!

This is my first time in T&C, after much research and reading reviews about this resort, we decided to give it a try....The resort grounds are nice, well kept, landscaping and exotic flowers paved your way to the beach....The pools are nice, but we spent most of our time at the beach. There are plenty of beach chairs so you don't have to get up early to reserve. Tipping the guy who work out there will get you prompt service. Beach towels are provided on the way out...Non motorized sports are provided at no cost, and we did that, it was lots of fun.

Not to miss: please try different restaurants at different resorts, there are so many better restaurants than Pelican at the resort. Mango Reef has the best Thai Mahi curry, ravioli shrimp salad...the best spot to view the sunset on the island....absolutely gorgeous....very much worth the taxi drive, not that far and that expensive...Coco Bistro is another MUST, beautiful setting with awesome food....manager was great, coming around making sure everyone has a good time and being taking care of. But please make advanced reservation, restaurant is packed everynite that we were there...We also took a taxi ride to the other side of the island to try Da Conch Shack....very much worthwide. Everything is made with conches and so delicious! The beach at this quiet, quaint place is a suprise hit....beach was quiet, calm water, beautiful, the perfect view of paradise....A little tip if you want to save some taxi money to spend on conch and beers: just walk right outside the resort and flag down any cars, if they stop, they are willing to take you anywhere, for 1/3 of the normal taxi ride that the hotel call for you. (you can do this way to everywhere you go...only if you are comfortable...we are pretty avid travelers so this didn't bother us nor we feel unsafe anytime on the island)

Rent a car if your stay is over 5days. Exploring the island on your own is so much fun.

There are some bikes upfront for hotel guests to use....nice little way to get around for a little bit to the grocery store or explore the neighboring hotels. 2hrs limit.

Go to grocery store, stock up your fridge for the stay, since there's a full kitchen and fridge in your room. So you dont have to worry about what to have for little breakfast....However, we discovered a little bakery right down the street from the resort, suprisingly great food for breakfast and lunch with very reasonable price as everything on the island is very expensive.

As for the resort, you get what you paid for, nice, clean, well kept facility thru out...but the customer service at the front desk is aweful! From the very first moment we are there to the very last, we feel like we are bothering them....They could use a little coutersy and customer service crash course if they are the front face, representing the resort, hotel....No enthusiasm, no smile, nothing they do to show that they are happy to be there or that it's nice to get visitors to their islands....Not sure if the upper management know about this....

The rest of the staffs are nice, not extremely eager to help or service but I guess you are in a ok resort, not a 5 stars where customer service and friendliness are MUST. For the price you pay, I guess this is good enough service to them! My recommendation: since you are going to pay for it anyway, try a different hotel. There are so many other nice resorts on the island....

Turks and Caicos are beautiful, quaint, quiet, perfect beaches for a perfect get away! This destination is totally recommended, not sure about this particular hotel. Come with an open minded and embrace the day, you will have a great time!

This location is excellent with it's wonderful beach and very nice rooms etc.

Food and drink prices are on the high side . Two cups of coffee in the morning from the restaaurant cost approx $9.00 served in stroy form cups to go.

Restaurant food is fine but again feel overall food prices versus value leave something tb be desired.
