Royal West Indies Resort
Ranked #16 of 44 Hotels in Providenciales
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 18 April 2014

We selected the Royal West Indies Resort based on reviews we read and overall we were not disappointed. Below are some of our thoughts:

Taxi to resort to/from airport - $20/pp
Location - great and close to shopping areas/restaurants.
Property - well-maintained, well-manicured with lots of gorgeous blooming plants/trees.
Plus - the resort has beach bike available to check out for a quick ride to shopping areas
Room - we stayed in an ocean view studio (#532) on the 3rd floor. It was not luxurious, but nice and spacious with a big balcony area. Each unit has stackable washer/dryer.
Bed - AWFUL! It was like sleeping on a sheet of plywood.
Bed linens - scratchy especially on sunburned skin.
Staff - pleasant especially the bellman, Lopez.
Restaurant - good but not outstanding especially for the price. We thought is was expensive.
Restaurant service - very good wait staff, but slow service.
Meal plan - 2 different breakfast/dinner meal plans available to purchase. We purchased the 2 breakfast/2 dinner plan, but wished we had not.
Bar - 1/2 price drinks during happy hour (5-7p).
Bar service - okay, not overly friendly.
Pool areas - nice, well-maintained but could use several more chairs/umbrellas.
Beach - FABULOUS!!!! We were always able to find beach chairs under a big umbrella and enjoyed the white sand and crystal clear ocean water!
Beach towels - small bath-size towels. They ran out of towels in the middle of the afternoon.
Bring your own snacks because groceries are very, very expensive.

Room Tip: Residence #5 does not look out over a pool area or the restaurant so it was quieter than others.

My family, including a 5 and 2 year old, stayed here for 6 nights. What a great place. The gardens are lush, and the layout is perfect, as if they dropped the hotel in a botanical garden. We had a garden view king one bedroom. All of the rooms in the hotel either look into the two pools or are ocean front. From what I see, it doesn't seem like any of the rooms have any negative aspects. Our room was on the second floor and overlooked the adult pool. There is another larger pool closer to the beach for everyone and next to the restaurant (ok,but not recommended as the food is just ok and prices are high). The resort's beach on Grace Bay offers several chairs under umbrellas. During our visit in April, there were plenty of places to sit. The beach was beautiful (of course!). Service at the hotel was very good and room cost was within reason.. The only negative is there are no elevators, so you will get lots of exersize if you are up on the third floor. I would definitely return here.

Room Tip: All rooms look at the pool or are waterfront. If you want peace, choose buildings 6, 7 or 8 as they...

The quick:
1. on the same beach as other more expensive locations.
2. Free bike checkouts
3. Good location: to grocery (easy bike ride), rest., casino and shopping.
4. Food at the bar/rest was good! Try the jerk chicken sandwich.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got here. The room we got had an ocean view. Room was air conditioned and had a full size fridge. We got 2 extra roll away beds and they fit perfectly and folded up easily during the day. Beach is right there and they have a shower outside to rinse off. You can rent waterspout equipment if you want.

Please message me if you want further details or have questions...esp how to go dancing (next door).

This Resort was close to perfect for our family vacation. My husband, I, and my teenaged twins stayed six nights. We booked a two bedroom oceanfront which was beautiful and accommodated us perfectly. The only negative was that we were on the first floor so our "ocean front" view was somewhat blocked by the birm between our room and the beach. When we moved out to the spacious patio, our view improved, but was still limited. i don't know if 2nd floor cost more but ask for it if you can get it over the first floor. On a positive note, we didn't have to do stairs!
The beach was impeccably clean and the water spectacular and there were plenty of chairs and umbrellas set out daily for guests to enjoy. There were some water toys available but we only used snorkel gear; however the snorkeling at this beach was not spectacular. The pool bar and restaurant was close to our room and the beach, and there was staff on the beach to take orders. We took the short walk back to order drinks and food and hung out at the pool after the beach. The lunches and evening meals served here were delicious; on Wednesday there was a lobster festival that was out of this world. All you could eat lobster along with an assortment of fish, meats and sides.
All of the staff was wonderful; Tanisha at the front desk was helped us find great restaurants and excursions off property. We used Silver Deep for snorkeling and fishing. Had great times on both excursions. You can walk down the beach for other great dining choices or to the grocery store in a few minutes to stock your kitchen.
We rented a car for two days (kind of a clunker but a car nevertheless) which was cheaper that round trip airport taxi fare. Taxi fare from the airport was $20 per person and the car was only $65 per day. We used it to drive to Las Brisas, a restaurant on the other side of the island, and took a tour of rest of the island. Next time we will rent a car for the whole trip. Be aware, they drive on the left!
We will definitely return and highly recommend this resort and destination.

Room Tip: If you're paying for oceanfront and want a view, ask for the second floor.

The resort looks amazing in the pictures & we were looking forward to having a wonderful vacation there but Mother Nature got in the way. The trip was planned for Feb 12-17. A second snow storm shut down all airports connecting to Nashville. We were crushed when we got the 1st of many cancellation emails. We spoke with them from Monday thru Thursday trying to salvage some part of this trip, but the Royal West Indies Resort wouldn't budge. 1st they said they could only hold our room until the 2nd day of our scheduled trip and then they would have to resell it. Then they said they couldn't refund or even move our trip to another time because they would loose money on the room because they couldn't resell it. Now to me those 2 statements contradict each other.....We even offered to stay fewer days on a return trip to do "our" part to help offset loss on their end.
It didn't work.
A sold out hotel that had to send folks to another resort can't sell a room? I don't buy it. I've worked in the hotel industry and traveled the world staying in every type of hotel you can imagine. There is ALWAYS a way to work things out. That is unless you just really don't care about the guests.
I know now that buying travel insurance would've helped in this matter, but I've never bought it in my entire life & I've never had a problem resolving issues related to "Acts of God". Delta was VERY helpful and tried very hard to get us on ANY flight to Turks. It just wasn't happening. The storm was just too bad. Delta also REFUNDED the entire cost of the airline tickets. They did what a smart company would do to retain current customers and hopefully build new customers in the future. The Royal West Indies Resort didn't even come close to being 1/2 as helpful.
So....I see lots of great reviews here and it looks like many people had a great time there. That's great. That's what vacations are all about. Sometimes things happen that need good old fashioned Customer Care. The Resort did not step up. They will NOT get my business. I have already begun spreading the word for folks to steer clear of Royal West Indies Resort. There are way too many options for travelers these days. One's that are proud of their Customer Care. One's that want return customers. The Royal West Indies Resort is not one of those resorts.

We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks in December - we were two adults and our 5 month old daughter. The property itself is great - very well maintained gardens, clean pool areas, courteous staff and smooth check-in process. Overall the resort is quite small which makes it quick to get to and from wherever you need to be in the hotel or to/from the beach. We stayed in the second building away from the beach which was wonderful as it gave us a beautiful oceanview room and lots of unobstructed late afternoon sunshine on our deck (without paying the premium for an ocean front room).

The beach was gorgeous and the bar staff (despite being set up at what looked to be a temporary picnic table on the beach) went out of their way to fix us drinks or snacks. As well, each morning they greeted our daughter with huge smiles and lots of laughs when we arrived at the beach... It felt like she had made some great friends!

The location of the resort is close enough to the local IGA (10 minute bike ride) to make it possible to get groceries without having to rent a car. That being said, the hotel can arrange for a shuttle to the big Graceway IGA (via a local taxi company) which is handy if you plan on purchasing more than can fit on your bike handles. A regular taxi ride from the RWI to the local IGA or most of the restaurants is fairly reasonable.

The only downside to the hotel is the rather tired looking amenities in the room. We stayed in a one bedroom suite - good size with a big bedroom, large eating/living area and nice sized kitchen. The walls were definitely in need of some new paint (scuffed, dirty and scratched, particularly evident in the washroom), the dishwasher had broken rails inside it, the outside of the fridge had a number of dents and rust marks on it and the bathroom tub fixtures were not exactly new. Clearly some things were updated (furniture was in very good condition and seemed fairly new, bed was comfortable, new granite counter tops in the kitchen and bathroom...). In the end, this really didn't affect our stay as the room was still great - just good to know so you're not surprised when you arrive!

The restaurant at the hotel was great - fresh food, good drinks, excellent staff. They were very open to providing take-out food so we could eat up in our room (which was almost a necessity with out little daughter!)

I would definitely recommend this hotel as it is a great beachfront option on Grace Bay at a very reasonable price compared to all the other options right by the Royal West Indies!

Beautiful resort right on Grace Bay. We stayed in a one bedroom condo just down the pathway to the beach. The beach was gorgeous and they provide lounge chairs, umbrellas, towels, kayak, Hobie Cats and occasional drink service. It sits on one of the nicest stretches of beach in Grace Bay and never felt crowded or loud. The Pelican Bay Restaurant is awesome and the bar outside is very inviting with friendly staff and a great Happy Hour every night from 5-7pm with two for one drinks, on any drink and the prices were very good! The crowd is a fun and mellow one and it quiets down by 9-10pm. There are two great pools with great lounge chairs. It's in a great location near shopping and other restaurants. We loved it and will return!
