“Great time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

I stayed at RWI in late April/early May 2014 & had a great time. RWI resort is located on one of the best beaches I’ve ever been to & is in walking distance to many awesome restaurants, the IGA & a really fun casino. The resort grounds where gorgeous & well kept. We had a studio room that was modern, very clean, & had everything that you need, a comfortable king sized bed, strong air conditioner, nice furniture, a small kitchen area, washer & dryer, a safe, & a large patio. The staff was amazing & was always there if you needed anything. Since the resort is small it never seems crowded & we never had any problems finding seats at the beach, pool, or bar/restaurant. I highly recommend having dinner at Anaconia located the Grace Bay Club next door & also Coco Bistro which is right down the street. I really can’t think of anything bad to say about the resort or Turks & Caicos. If you don’t have a good time here there is something wrong. My wife & I are already making plans to come back next year & we will definitely be staying at RWI again for sure.

December 2010

Our trip to the T&C was the best. Everything was excellent about the Royal West Indies Resort. Everyone treated us well. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. I would highly recommend a trip to T&C.

The location in Grace Bay is quite convenient. The service level needs a great deal to be desired. Room service happens many hours after you call down. Whilst I was there, I called for my room to be cleaned at 8 am on the days I stayed and every time, when I returned for lunch the room was still unkept. The last night I asked for an early wake up call which never came and I almost missed my early flight. There are many other resorts on this strip including Grace Bay and Seven Stars. Stay in one if those and skip this completely.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, ask for the ocean front rooms

We recently returned from a week's vacation Turks and Caicos. Firstly the islands are paradise absolutely stunning however the accommodation let us down on this vacation. Lets start with Pros:

Rooms - We (2 Adults and 2 kids Age 12 and 3) 1 Bedroom Apartment. Great for self catering, roomy, cleanliness

Location, location, location - perfectly placed adjacent to the Beach which was beautiful. Numerous occasions we'd watch the sunset absolutely breathtaking! Plenty of chairs/loungers and Umbrellas on the beach courtesy of the Hotel along with Towels and no key required for signing in and out.

Swimming pools - great, not crowded

Facilities on the beach were excellent - Free Kayak, Catamaran/Sail, Life vests, Paddle boards. 45 minutes allowed

Cons:

Only 1 restaurant - Pelican Bay which served mediocre food and way overpriced - get ready to take out a second mortgage in Turks and Caicos for restaurant checks - extortionate since everything is imported and i mean everything - therefore massively over-inflated prices at supermarkets and restaurants! BTW: I reside in New York - Manhattan and I'm certainly used to expensive checks :) but this was something else!

No onsite store for Emergency supplies! - This was remarkable they literally had no store on site where you could purchase essentials such as water, sun creams for kids etc. Nearest Supermarket was about a 10 minute bike ride away! Not ideal......

No activities for the kids - we appreciate it's Apartments but they literally laid on nothing for the kids - very disappointing. This is much better suited for couples or retirement age definitely not for families the little ones will be bored to tears after one day - sorry :(

Beach/Poolside waiter service was terrible. We'd rarely see the waiter and when we did spot him it took a mammoth task to get his attention and actually place a drinks order.

Best advice i can give you is as follows either stock up on tons of supplies at the local IGA Gourmet Supermarket for the vacation and then cook in the Apartment or alternatively choose another Hotel, preferably All inclusive that has entertainment for the kids. We heard "Beaches" Hotel nearby was excellent lots to do for the kids! Wish we'd stayed there.....If you do decide to eat out every night at the local restaurants get ready for some mind blowing checks!

All in all, it's a shame the accommodation/facilities let us down since T & Cs are beautiful and well worth a visit, I would just recommend families giving "Royal West Indies Resort" a wide berth :)

Finally, some helpful tips - use Clayton Cox "3Cs Taxi service" Tel 649 244 1546 - very reliable and good rates compared to others.

Ideally rent a car, since all the Taxis do add up so if you wish to explore the island and drive to restaurants highly recommend it.

Kids will enjoy the "Undersea Explorer" adventure - they have a Mermaid swim along the boat, spot turtles and all kinds of fish on the reef. My 3 yr old loved it.

"Mango Reef" restaurant = great for location as is "Hemmingways" - perfect to dine and watch the sunset - breathtaking

The pictures on the website do not do the resort or the island justice. Everything was immaculate and the staff was very friendly and more then helpful. If they did not have the answer they found out for you. We has a studio which had an ocean view through the trees. We were near the restaurant / bar but the noise was minimal. The food was great! We took a taxi to and from the airport. Even though we only left the resort to go kayaking, dinner on the south shore (boogaloo's) and walked into town once. I would rent a car. Still cheaper then the taxis.

We were there for six days. The first long vacation with just the wife and I in 25 years. Would definitely go back again, there is something for everyone. Whether you want to just sit on the beach or kayak, snorkel etc. it's all there..

Good location on Grace Bay with nice staff who was very helpful. Unfortunately, the room was more than disappointing and needed many updates: with a rusty sink knob that left discoloring on a few of our personal items as the water leaked out. The shower head should also have been changed as there seemed to be some discoloration/(moldiness growing). After the first night we had a few bug bites that we did not have the night before so we had requested that they change the sheets which they were happy to do. Grounds were pleasant with good landscaping but the restaurant staff and restaurant itself were disappointing which forced us to go elsewhere to dine. Overall we enjoyed the location and staff but found the room to be extremely disappointing and cringed a bit while present.

We stayed here for a week in June. Our room was a one bedroom studio with full kitchen and washer/dryer. Front desk girls were great. Lopez, the bell captain is amazing-always on hand to help out with a huge smile. He's a great asset to their staff. The property is well maintained. We really liked that the pools and hot tub were open until 10pm. The beach is also very well maintained and clean. Towels are a little worn, but they give each person two per day. There are free watersports, but the snorkeling equipment goes fast. Listen for the bell at 5pm which signifies Happy Hour- drinks are two for one. Tip the bartenders and you'll get your money's worth. Public restrooms are clean and are plentiful at bar and beach. Saturday afternoon they set up a jerk chicken bbq and a little bar on the beach. I would stay here again. Just be wary & plan ahead if you are a picky eater or have food allergies as prices on this island are steep. Many of the people we spoke with did pack food items with them so as to defray some of the grocery prices. If you plan carefully and utilize your kitchen, you can be satisfied and still have money left over. Don't be afraid to venture off property to eat- especially at the restaurants at the Ocean Club and Ocean Club West.

Room Tip: We asked for a lower level room, which was nice for our mom. As we were traveling off season, we did...
