“Grace Bay, all the amenities, suites, at a reasonable price”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

lovely 4 start resort. Decent food, pools big enough for kids to have fun. On Grace Bay. The suites were decent, though the sofa-bed and accompanying mattress are in desperate need of upgrade. but, relative to cost of Grace Bay Resort and others, the rooms are a bargain for what you get.
grounds kept clean. front desk staff are mediocre (one in charge is particularly grumpy) but ground staff are keen to make guests feel welcome. easy to get around using free bikes.
the surf/turf bbq is worth the money. restaurant and bar service (incl on the beach) is on time and correct.
Hotel is walking distance (with kids 7 yrs old) to some of the best eating on the island.
We will return but next time opt for room on upper floor to avoid "buginess" of ground floor.

My wife and I stayed at the Royal West Indies resort August 2-9 2014.

We booked with our travel agent and upgraded to Ocean view. Check in at the resort was nice and fast and we were given room 233. The view of the ocean was amazing and the room and balcony were nice. I believe the buildings with the best ocean view would be 1-3 for sure and unsure of #4. It would appear building 5-8 are all botanical view but we do not know 100%. Our say on the room is nice overall - flat screen TV with many stations but the bathroom was a little dated but not a deal breaker. Each room is privately owned and rented out by the resort when not being used by owners so we did not know if other units had been updated or furnished differently by resort or owners. The room had washer/dryer (with a box of soap) as well as a microwave and fridge in the tiny galley kitchen. All cutlery glasses and plates and bowls standard. Coffee maker with coffee supplied and refilled by request or by maids.

The resort has bikes to use to take downtown to grocery store if you wish 8-6PM and it is a 5-8 min bike ride or 15-20 min walk. The grocery store has all you will need and beer/liquor local beer $10 for 6 and wine for $15- $$$ a bottle (2 liquor stores downtown also). The casino is around the corner 5 min walk and we went one night after restaurant and won $50. Easy to get in and nobody bothered us as some reviews mention. (it is a little smoky)

We used the quiet pool once but it was so hot we could only stay a couple of hours. This island is all about the beach - end of story. The beach is set up with plenty of chairs and umbrellas and you are provided towels (No towel cards!!!!!) there was more chairs than people so no need to reserve plus you could have them moved or set up wherever you want on beach (the guys were awesome). The water, as usual, was a beautiful turquoise colour and crystal clear. Snorkelling on beach is ho-hum as there is no coral, but you can walk up beach to point where we were told it was better, or of course take an excursion. It was 33 degrees and sunny every day (brings lots of lotion) except for first Sunday when rained all day due to tropical storm Bertha. We did not notice any bugs but most places have bug spray if needed. Lots of free water sports that we did not use but other guests seem to enjoy very much (Hobie Kat/ paddle boards/ kayaks).

The restaurant on site is the Pelican and the food is good and not too expensive. The portions are large so consider sharing to save $$. We would have breakfast, lunch and snacks from our own food and go out to a different restaurant each night. Many guests took a pizza from the Pelican to their rooms or shared at the restaurant and they were only $20-$25 (great to do with a bottle of store bought wine on your balcony). We were told to reserve Coco Bistro (5 min walk!) and were lucky to get in (many guests could not secure a reservation so it is recommended to call or email from home first!). Food there was very good and for a bottle of wine and desert with dinner was $220 US for 2. They have an onsite cat Coco that likes to snuggle up to guests during dinner which made my wife very happy (crazy cat lady). We went to the Seven at Seven Stars and that was fine dining under the stars (or indoors). Service there was top notch and well worth the over $260 with a bottle of wine and dessert if you want to treat yourselves. Grace Bay Club has an awesome infinity bar and lots of fire pits and tiki torches to view the amazing sunsets each nite down by the beach.

The staff at Royal West Indies were fine and friendly and overall we were very happy with the resort and would go back.

Room Tip: Building one is closest to beach with best view but building 2 view of ocean was great!

Had a fantastic time staying at this hotel. The staff was super friendly and was always smiling with something pleasant to say EVERY time you ran into them. Even more important that the facilities, food and the absolutely beautiful surroundings, was the lovely people that makes up the Turks and Caicos Islands.
We will be back

Recently stayed here for 4 nights. Very nice accommodations at a reasonable price. Steps away from one of the nicest beaches in the world and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Offer beach umbrellas, lounge chairs, paddle boards, snorkeling gear, hobie cats, swimming pools, whirlpool etc etc. Virgil hooked us up with a demonstration on the hobie cat and was extremely helpful. Nice on site restaurant/bar. The rooms are very comfortable with patio or balcony and include washer/dryer, microwave, full size refrigerator. Only real complaint was that the hot water in the shower wasn't adequate.

For our first trip to T&C, my wife and I stayed in a studio ground level unit in building 3, right across from the pool and restaurant. There was a refrigerator, microwave, dishes, utensils, etc. No stove top or oven. We went to the IGA which was 3-5 minute car ride and bought a few snacks, some soda, beer and bottled water. We brought a soft cooler from home which we took to the beach with us each day (saved a little money). Many great restaurants close to the RWI.

The hot water in the room was not working when we checked in but they responded quickly and it was repaired in about 1.5 hours. Bed was a little soft for our liking but overall the room was clean. We did not spend much time in the room so it was fine for us. We enjoyed being close to the pool and the Staff was generally pretty friendly. The grounds at the hotel were very well maintained and the pools were very quiet and relaxing. By far the best part of the stay was the beach. If you can’t relax on Grace Bay, you are in trouble. The water was so beautiful and calm, we spent most of our time at the beach for our 5 day stay. The pictures of the beach are accurate, it was amazing!!

As with much on the island, food and drinks at the restaurant (Pelican Bay) were a little pricey, but it’s an island. 2 for 1 happy hour from 5-7pm was great and the fish tacos were excellent. We rented a car and explored some of the island; Blue Haven Marina and Resort, Sapodilla Bay, Da Conch Shack. All places we would recommend. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the RWI!! It was a great value and location. We will return again.

Room Tip: They occationally have live music by the main pool and restaurant which was right by our room. It go...

For background, we had just stayed at Sands At Grace Bay for 4 days, and had intended to spend a couple days at Club Med, but after a walk through, we were underwhelmed (it looked old, the staff was very disinterested, and the food did not looking very appealing. My wife was not expecting much as we choose RWI at the last minute, but we were both pleasantly surprised. The beach is just the standard perfect beach in T&C, but the pool area is very romantic, the grounds are really gorgeous, and the hotel, itself, was very nice - the architecture and the color scheme is very pleasant. We had a full-size fridge and a washer-dryer, which made things very convenient. Downsides - the layout of the paths is not the best for getting to your room and just next door to RWIR is an unappealing deserted lot. A 10-15 minute walk to lots of shops and restaurants. I hated to leave and would stay here again.

My wife and I and our 13 year old daughter stayed at the Royal West Indies in July 2014, it was our first trip to the Turks and Caicos. First and most importantly the ocean is just amazingly beautiful! The resort itself is just a step above average. I must say the best asset that the resort has goes by the name of Noel!! He was very helpful and engaging and always met us with a big smile. The front desk on the other hand just seemed to go thru the motions almost in a robotic like manner. That could also be said for the staff that handed out beach towels, they barely even grunted at you---to busy looking down at their phones. The tropical grounds were very very nice and well maintained. We opted to spend a little more and got an ocean view room. The room itself was nice, we were glad to have a kitchen as well as a washer/dryer. Our only complaint here was that the ocean view room (231) offered a very limited view. When standing on the balcony only the far left 1/5th of the balcony offered a view of the ocean. My advice would be to save the extra $$ and go with a garden view because we didn't spend alot of time in the room other than to sleep. Another aspect that makes the resort just average is the very small and dated pools. We did enjoy how quiet the resort was the exception being the night they had karaoke at the bar, it was soooooo awful that we left the pool area and returned to our room. We thought the sound would be less out on our balcony but it wasn't, so we retired to the inside. We did like the fact the resort offed bicycles for use but once again they came up short here also. The bicycles can only be checked out starting at 8 and have to be back by 6pm which was frustrating because we wanted to use them to pedal down the road to grab some dinner. I guess its there way of encouraging you to eat on site. A great place to eat where the locals also go is the Fresh Catch, the grouper sandwich is wonderful----we had it for lunch 3 straight days. The grocery store is just down the road which is great for picking up water/snacks etc. Keep in mind it cost more than what you would pay in the US but they do have to import just about everything so it makes sense. If snorkeling take a taxi drive to bight reef it is literaly right off the beach and you will see some amazing fish----great place for those that are not use to snokeling or those with younger children. In a nutshell we are without a doubt going back to the Turks and Caicos because it is paradise!!! Just not sure if we will return to this resort. You expect exceptional customer service at a place like this and what they offered was just average. The entire staff could all take a lesson or two from Noel and offer up a big smile and an amazingly positive attitude.

Room Tip: Book a garden view room as it will save you $$$ unless you plan to spend alot of time in your room a...
