“Beautiful Hotel. Excellent Service.”
Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed 6 nights at The Sands. We had a first floor suite with kitchen, living area, bedroom, large (!) screened porch, and laundry. Gorgeous grounds at the hotel. Relaxing swimming area snakes through the gardens offering secluded lagoon-esque escapes from the regular pool. There's also a hidden hot tub in there ... gotta look closely to find it. :-) Oh, and we were greeted by a pretty white crane perusing its own lunch options in the gardens. It was apparently a wild crane that just landed and hung out for a while in the gardens. So cool.

The staff offered fantastic service. The room was perfect for our needs, and was a perfect retreat from the sand and heat.

You can book excursions directly from the pool area. The boats will pick you up right there at the beach in front of the hotel. We were surprised - no waiting to be picked up at the hotel lobby (and inevitable confusion of times and schedules). These guys were organized and ready to help you have a great vacation.

We went in the offseason, October 2013. The place was practically empty. We booked a super low rate through Orbitz. What a wonderful trip!

Dear Family V,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay from October 2013. We will share them with our team.

We appreciate your comments and those nice pictures you posted as well. You paid us the best compliment anyone could ask for about our staff service. Our staff works very hard to provide warm and genuine hospitality and we thank you for your kind words.

I am glad to know you enjoyed our three free-form pools as there is a little something for everybody. Indeed, the Ocean Vibes tour operator located at the Pool Hut, can easily arrange excursions and pick you up on right the beach. A convenient and fun way to get your vacation tour started.

Off season is a good quiet time, though there are several restaurants closed because of this reason but the tradeoff is, you practically have the island to yourself!

Again, thank you for your feedback, we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Yours sincerely,

Stayed here on the last leg of our honeymoon. We had a 1 bed suite. The rooms were lovely, clean and nice balcony view of the beach. The staff were hit and miss, some were lovely , a lot were rude, slow and ignorant. The restaurant is expensive and not great. The conch is not to be recommended nor the staff. They offer free bicycles to go into the village , definitely worth the spin nice places to eat and drink. The beach was nice though the sand is not raked and the loungers are old and not very comfortable. The water is clean little seaweed. Plenty of activities offered along the beach but at a hefty price. The hotel offers a shuttle to the supermarket 20 dollars return. So for a couple 40 return. We used it a few times as cabs are more expensive. The supermarket is crazy dear but cheaper than the resort shop. After 10 o clock the whole resort shuts down. Definitely wouldn't stay here again

Dear CurlySusie,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay from December 2013. We appreciate the time you took write and wish to congratulate you on being Newlyweds.

Although we are happy to know that you enjoy many aspects of your stay, I was sorry to note your interactions with our staff fell short of our usual high standards. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced. Your comments have been shared with our management team.

For the other readers, I must clarify some comments made. Hemingway’s Restaurant is a beach front causal restaurant well known for their Award Winning conch dishes. There are a number of tasty and popular conch dishes on the menu, however we know conch may not be suited to everyone’s taste. Though we have not raised prices in over 5 years, our menu prices remain competitive with other similar restaurants on Island.

We take a great deal of pride in having Grace Bay Beach as the best beach in the world, and are committed to doing our very best to continue to keep it that way. Pristine. We strive to groom our beach with our ATV beach-raker each morning weather and beach conditions permitting but cannot when the sand is not too soft. When that happens, we will rake by hand. As for the beach chairs, we have been reviewing future plans for a different type of beach chair. We do hope you were able to enjoy some of our complimentary non-motorized sports equipment at the beach, from ocean kayaks, snorkel gear, Hobie Cat sail boats, to stand-up paddle boards.

Please note, the hotel does not have a hotel shuttle service rather it was a ‘taxi shuttle service’ to the grocery store. As of December 13, 2013, due to issues beyond our control, we were no longer able to provide a taxi grocery store shuttle service. Government regulations are that only official taxis may transport guests to and from their destinations. Taxi fares are required to be in each taxi, however upon request we will also provide a copy of the taxi fares at the front desk.

In closing, we appreciate your comments in the manner in which they are received as it gives us either an opportunity to praise our staff or correct a short coming.

Yours sincerely,

Mona Beeson

The resort is beautiful and very well maintained and the room was very nice. We stayed in a studio, room 1305, and had an unobstructed ocean view. The kitchenette and apartment washer/dryer were great touches. We had absolutely no problem obtaining chairs in the shade on the beach or at the pool. If there was no shade available at the beach, a simple request of the beach attendant and he would set up chairs and umbrellas wherever you requested. The same was true at the pool. Big John took outstanding care of us when booking a half-day snorkel trip. Hemingway's Restaurant on the property is very good. We did not have a single bad meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) and the service was timely and professional (remember you are on an island and taking a little more time is not necessarily a bad thing). Everything you read regarding the beach and water of Grace Bay does not do the location justice.

The Thursday night fish fry at the public beach/park on the way to Turtle Cove should not be missed. Local restaurants set up fryers and bbq's and serve outstanding food and drink. The attendees seem to be split 50/50 between locals and tourists. At about 8:30 the "Junkanoo" begins, which is a mix of sound and dancing that appears to be local to Provo. It was a fantastic experience.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Provo.

My husband (39), two children (4, 1) and I went to Provo in May. We stayed half of our time at the Sands, and half of our time at the Beaches All Inclusive. While we were originally more excited about the Beaches resort, we ended up loving the Sands twice as much.

We stayed in room 3307, which was a third floor ocean front room with an ENORMOUS balcony over looking the ocean. The balcony was literally 40 feet long & 27 feet deep (at its deepest) & it had huge doors that fully opened from both the living room & bedroom. It was an AMAZING room. It had a kitchen, large living area, two bathrooms and a nice size bedroom. I believe you could also get access to a second bedroom.

The screened balcony was perfect. We ended up spending a lot more time on it than we had anticipated, because it most amazing view, totally safe & bug free (screened without impacting the view). We ended up eating 90% of our meals on the balcony because there was no where on the beach that had a more beautiful view! (plus, it's so much easier with kids).

One of the reasons we loved the Sands much more than the Beaches Resort was because the Sands was so relaxed, peaceful, quiet and beach-focused! We found the Beaches Resort to be much more of a scene, which wasn't what we were in to.

We loved spending family time at the beach, in the pools, in the lazy river (where we had the whole river to ourselves and could hide my son's super heroes for him to find... a great joy for him), and on the hammocks.

The beach is AMAZING. The water is warm, perfect & calm. The staff will take you out in the hobie cats, or you can sail them yourself.

We didn't much care for Hemingways; the food or the service. We don't expect people to be over the top friendly, but it seemed to put them out when we'd place our orders for take-out.

There is a little store on the property that has all the basics: milk, ice cream, pasta, etc. I also borrowed one of the bikes to make a grocery run. That store has Everything, including squeezy packets of baby food, organic food, prepared deli food, etc.

The Sands was really a perfect vacation. It's so beautiful, well kept, peaceful & beach-centric. It is really a lovely spot. Additionally, there is no hotel immediately to either side, so it has the perfect location (yet you can still walk to other hotel's restaurants).

Also, a huge shout out to Lataraka Nobi, the babysitter we hired through the hotel. She was really wonderful. My two sons both immediately clicked with her (she was so warm!); sadly, much more so than any of the women who worked in the Beaches Camp Sesame.

If we went again, we would stay exclusively at the Sands, hire Lataraka & enjoy every minute of our stay. Oh, and we would walk the whole 12 miles of the beach, stopping along the way for meals and drinks. That would be my perfect day!

The Sands was great. If you're thinking of staying there... DO IT!!! And, try to get oceanfront, preferably with a wrap around balcony.

ps -- we also went scuba diving 4 times while we were at Provo. It was good diving. They had some of everything: hard & soft corals, sharks, rays, turtles, fish.

Room Tip: get a wrap around ocean front balcony!!!!!

My wife suggested that we stay at the Sands at Grace Bay hotel when we headed to Provo for the honeymoon we never had when we married. We went for our 26th wedding anniversary and had a great time. The grounds are beautifully kept with a variety of private and open areas to satisfy your every mood. The rooms are spacious with amenities such as kitchenette and washer/dryer. One very special aspect of this hotel compared to the myriad choices along Grace Bay is the beach layout. While every other hotel seems to cram as many beach chairs and umbrellas as they can into the cramped space on their beach, Sands offers guests plenty of space between seating groups along with low slung plastic chairs that can be set right at the water's edge so your feet dangle in the surf - wonderful!

The only reason that I can't give Sands the full 5 rating is that our "ocean view" room had only a sliver of ocean visible from our balcony - more like a "partial ocean view." Also, the concierge offered to help us schedule tours during our stay, but was not very helpful. The one tour they did schedule was booked incorrectly booked for the Sunday a week later rather than the upcoming Sunday, and we wasted our time waiting on the beach only to be told that there wasn't a tour scheduled that afternoon. When I complained to the front desk about the mix up, I had to contact the tour operator myself to reschedule and ask for a discount - the hotel did not offer to get us a discount for the mix up, nor did they offer us any recompense. The other tour we wanted to schedule the concierge couldn't even contact so we had to schedule this one on our own as well. You may have better luck with the concierge, but be sure to verify your reservations before the scheduled date.

Just came back from spending 8 nights / 9 days at The Sands. Stayed on the third floor, room 3301, a one bedroom with a kitchen, screened in balcony, living area. Spent all day everyday at the beach, ate at Hemmingway's for all breakfasts and lunches which was wonderful. Eggs, pancakes, rancheros, benedict, fish tacos, salads... I haven't eaten so much in a long time! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is very clean, beautiful and well maintained.

The beach was gorgeous, clear turquoise water, clean sand and tons of complimentary water sports to partake in. I did the Hobie Cat, paddle board, kayak, and snorkeling. Attempted the wind sail but could never stay on the board! :(

With snorkeling you may get lucky and stumble upon a rogue starfish, or even some sand dollars. I myself spotted two starfish, and found three sand dollars. At one point we saw a 3-foot shark in the shallow waters.

The pools are very nice and are cleaned every morning, but I only swam in it once. The beach was too beautiful to stay by the pool.

There is also some wild life around the resort like lizards, cranes and cats. One cat in particular I named, "Miss Meow." We would wake up and find her laying outside our door in the morning, or come home at night to see her perched on one of the chairs waiting for us. If you see her, say hi! She's a real sweetheart.

My parents have been to this resort twice, this was my first trip. I would not hesitate to come back. Before I returned home I promised myself I would be back. Great resort, great vacation, great location.

We rented a 3 bedroom condo with a ocean-view and loved the 8 nights we were there. Easy bike ride or walk to the grocery store. The kitchen had all appliances needed to accommodate 8 people. The condo was perfect for our family.
