“We loved our unit but probably won't come back to OCW”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

If you read through all the reviews, you get the general idea of what OCW is all about. I'm not going to reiterate everything here. We did a private rental because we wanted to control which unit we were assigned. But, the downside of this is that you don’t have regular cleaning service and you can’t charge things to your room. We also picked OCW because we wanted the screened porches. We loved the unit we got. And, we worked with the most responsive and lovely unit-owners. This review is no indictment of them or our unit.

Here are some things to think about in deciding if OCW is right for you:
There are lots of kids. We didn’t expect this. We traveled at a time when school is typically in session and yet I woke up every morning expecting to have some peace and quiet on the porch only to be greeting with screams from the pool (our unit was right next to it). The kids screamed. Their parents screamed. It never ended until the sun went down. These were just sounds of kids having fun. But, we try to stay away from family-friendly resorts. If you have kids, this place is for you. (The beach was better, but there were still lots of noisy, noisy kids around.)

We booked a one bedroom thinking that we could get cross ventilation because our until had porches on the front and back. For whatever reason, we never got a good breeze and ended up running the A/C. Because of this and the fact that the balcony is bigger, we maybe would have been better off in a studio. I’m not sure, just something to think about.

We had in-unit Internet and it was so incredibly slow, it was sometimes impossible to load a simple web page. Don’t expect to stream anything, particularly during heavy Internet times like after dark.

Too many people smoked around the pool and by the water. Cigars and cigarettes littered the beach. It was gross.

If you get a first floor unit, ask if the door locks from the outside. Even though there isn't much of a view, I thought it would be cool to just walk off the porch, lock the door, and then go to the beach. Some units have the locks and some don't.

We took a vacation here with a large family group. One major thing to be aware of when staying here is that is condo style (as is most of Turks and Caicos), and since each unit is owned by different people, what you get can varying quite widely. We had 5 units between our group. Our unit was probably the most outdated of the 5. Some units had granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, nice furniture, nice artwork, etc, while some (ours) were more run down. Buildings A and B are the closest to the water and have great views (we were in B), so this definitely makes up for some of this, since we spent a lot of time on the balcony (it is pretty big). With that said, the rooms are spacious with living space and kitchen, wireless internet, etc. The beds are definitely not the most comfortable. Our room also did not have a working phone, safe, or a few outlets, but the staff was able to get this all repaired within a day or so. The beach is beautiful, and it was never a problem finding beach chairs, tables, etc, even during the holiday season.

We traveled with a 1 year old, and a nice feature was they provided us with a crib, stroller, baby monitor, high chair, etc. They also are NOT petty about lots of things and let the guests act like adults here, which we liked a lot (things such as take towels when you need them - no towel cards like at many resorts, borrow pool, bike and tennis equipment without "checking" them out, use of common area grills for making dinner, etc). They provide a shuttle to the other Ocean Club facility where there are more restaurants and amenities, and the staff is knowledgeable about area restaurants and activities.

The food is standard and basic, but location wise this resort is great because it is near the grocery store, the Salt Mills for food and shopping, and near a bunch of bars and the golf course. All in all, if there were a little more of menu options and if our room was updated, we would probably have very little negative thoughts on the resort. Turks and Caicos in general was a great island.

Room Tip: Do lots of research on which rooms are the best since they are all owned by different people. I woul...

Dear Garett_Travel,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review! You are correct in that most resorts on Grace Bay Beach encompass private ownership, including Ocean Club Resorts, managed by the most established Management Company in the Turks & Caicos. We make certain that all suites are at a minimum of 4-star at Ocean Club West, and as you commented some are above. All improvements are approved by the Management Company. I regret that your suite was not as nice as the other four rooms, and can certainly put any requests if and when you are able to return!

I regret you had a few issues but am happy that they were taken care. Thank you for bringing them to our attention. Sadly, many of the reviews with complaints I run across on Trip Advisor are ones that were never brought up at the hotel. I can assure if a complaint is addressed it will be rectified by our Management Company in some way given the opportunity, which is no longer there after a guest departs. Thank you for the opportunity! We want to know how we can accommodate all our guests to assure a pleasant stay!

I am happy to hear you found the beach beautiful and never had a problem finding chaise lounges & umbrellas, even over the holidays. We try to be plentiful in many areas, including this one. Thank you for the compliments and suggestions that have been shared with management. On behalf of all of us, we sincerely hope you and your family will return!

My Best,
Julia Maximo

Just returned from 5 days at the ocean club west. While the room was spacious and well located it was dirty and bug infested. Floors were so filthy we had to wear shoes and there was an infestation of sand fleas in our kitchen and bathroom - even inside the dishwasher. Convenient location close to grocery store but be prepared for astronomical food prices there and at the local restaurants (dinner for 6 $250-$375).

Dear A F,

I sent a personal email to you two weeks ago and have not heard back. I wanted to know how the reservation was booked, and if it was in fact through Ocean Club Resorts Management as it does not sound to be our standard. If it was booked through Ocean Club Resorts, and not an individual owner, can you please advise if the issue was brought up during the stay. Please feel free to contact me directly.

Thank you,
Julia Maximo

Just returned from Ocean Club West and to say I was pleased would be an understatement.
Wonderful location, great room in the Sea Drift buildings and perfect weather for the week ending
December 14th.

The front desk and GM at the hotel were great and most helpful.
Shopping was easy with a supermarket not far from the hotel as well as many
restaurants close by.Some of my favorite include Crackpot Kitcher,Patty's Place,Danny's Buoys
and the Coco Bistro restaurant.

The beach was everything it was made out to be,just beautiful and calm.No problem getting chairs and towles everyday,no lines everything always there first thing in the morning.

Bikes are offered free of charge and we used them often for exercise and touring the island.

The only downside is the airport getting out, long lines on the weekends to go through customs
and seating is limited waiting to get onto the plane.

We also went to the Ocean Club the sister resort and yes it looked older than OCW but still nice
and quiet there so worth a day there if you stay at OCW.

All together very nice people on the island and would say worth a trip if you have never been there before.

Pack a lot of suntan lotion and enjoy.

Room Tip: Stock up on food at local grocery to cut the food cost as it is pricey to eat out on the island.

Ocean Club West was the perfect place for a relaxing vacation - all the amenities of home with a gorgeous beach and pool right outside. We have visited here before, and love the proximity to fine restaurants, the grocery store, shopping, while still feeling away from it all at the resort. This time we stayed in a second floor unit, and we appreciated being high enough to get a nice view and breeze (with more privacy than on the first floor), but not having to walk up and down the stairs to the third floor this time. We went diving with Provo Turtle Divers most days, which was awesome! Provo continues to be easy to get to and very friendly to those of us from the US - without having to change money, etc.

Room Tip: We liked being on the second floor with a view of the ocean and pool - nice view but not as many sta...

We stayed at OCW Plaza which gave us access to all amenities at OCW. The Fitness center and tennis courts were great as was the pool, B-B-Q's and beach. The on-site bar and grill was very enjoyable. The entire resort is well kept and extremely clean. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. The bike's are a wonderful way to tour and there are plenty of fine dining options within walking distance including a great bakery across the street for breakfast. I only wish they had a hot tub on the property! Highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Except for one real windy day, there were always lounge chairs available late morning around the poo...

We had a great condo in Sea Grape, #732 on the third floor. Great exercise, no elevators to heads up. We arrived and were checked in by Vanessa who was very welcoming. Our unit was facing the ocean/pool with limited view, but we had a great screened in and private balcony. The room itself was nicely furnished and stocked, nice linens, comfortable and clean. The housekeeping staff were all wonderful and met our needs and requests without issue.

The first morning when we went to leave in our vehicle, and the battery was dead. i contacted the front desk and they sent out a gentleman who jumped the battery for us and we were on our way. We had several general requests all of which were handled promptly by the front desk.

We have several meals in the Seaside Cafe at both Ocean Club West and East and had great food. One night we had the special, one BBQ and one pan sauteed whole snapper, both delicious. Try the Grouper sandwich or sliders and definitely try the conch chowder!

The beach is gorgeous and wonderful, with plenty of fresh clean towels, chairs and umbrellas.

A huge thanks to the staff at Ocean Club West for a great and memorable stay!!

Thanks Ocean Club west for a great
