“Amazing!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2011

It's important to say that we did not start off at the Alexandra. We started our vacation at Northwest Point Resort on the other side of the island. Long story short, there were wild dogs on the beach, although secluded the beach is not well kept, and then we got robbed. With no help from the managment, we decided to get the heck out of there.

Around midnight, we called the Alexandra Resort. The offered to pick us up and even gave us a break on our room rate. Then, the manager waited up for us to personally greet us and the chefs stayed late to make us dinner. Our room was great, the beach was beautiful, the service was the best we've ever had, and the food is amazing.

Although our vacation started off difficult, we loved the Alexandra and are planning on going back this winter.

We had a wonderful vacation to Provo, Dec 31-Jan 5, 2011. We rented through vrbo.com a privately owned studio condo at the Alexandra with a lovely ocean view (not ocean front). There are only 4 buildings here, so everything in the resort is a quick walk. The resort is in a good location and we were able to walk to a few other resorts to eat in their restaurants. We spent a couple days at the resort's beachfront and a few days exploring other beaches/taking tours. We ate 2 meals at the Alexandra's restaurant (Mango Reef) and the food was good and reasonably priced. Occasionally, there was hotel staff to help set up beach chairs and umbrellas, but I did not see anyone delivering drinks out on the beach. You will not find a fancy spa or workout facility here (they have both, but are very small and basic), and currently, the reception area is a small room in one of the condo buildings, not a grand entrance like many of the other resorts. Our particular condo was about the size of a hotel room with a small kitchenette. But it was perfect for breakfasts out on the balcony and then lunches and dinners out. I would recommend it to people who are interested in exploring the island, visiting other restaurants, and using the Alexandra as a home base. If you want to spend all your time at one resort with pampered service and amenities, this might not be the place for you.

We just returned from a week at the Alexandra Resort which we traded into from an exchange with Interval. We were told this is the only timeshare building on the island. I had expected a parking lot view since this was a trade but we had a beautiful 2 bedroom ocean view corner unit on the third floor. There was a large balcony with a table and 6 chairs and two lounge chairs. Even the second bedroom had a small balcony.
The renovations are almost over and after three years (according to owners we met), it was worth the wait. The gym and spa are still in their temporary locations and some more grass was being laid while we were there. The unit was brand new, granite counters, stainless kitchen, 3 flat screen tv's. 2 1/2 baths, double bathroom sinks. The cabinet set up in the kitchen was a little awkward, but not a deal breaker.
The food and the Mango Reef is good and the beach front dinning was open. We rented a car (Grace Bay Rentals, dropped it off at the resort) so we ate at a few local places all which were good.
The Snorkel Trip that leaves from the Resort was great, according to my husband. It includes three stops and conch salad lunch. The captain and the mate were helpful, polite and knowledgeable.

Pros:
The room was absolutely beautiful! It had everything we needed, and was cleaned 2x's a day.

The hotel restaurant, Mango Reef, was amazing! It had a killer menu, tons of options, and everything tasted wonderful!

Cons:
The Alexandra staff was RUDE!!!

The website read the hotel has two restaurants. They were both closed down. We arrived right when the Mango Reef Restaurant was moving in, so even though the food was amazing, we had to listen to, and view, non-stop construction for 6 out of the 7 days we were there.

The website read there was a swim-up bar. There wasn't. It was closed and under construction.

The construction of the new restaurant, new sales office and swim-up bar was non-stop for 6 of the 7 days we were there. There was constant loud noise of hammers and saws as we tried to relax on the beach.

The airconditioner went out for 2 days.

The "Spa" was a tiny room with very limited services. Nothing at all like what is on the website.

The website read there was beachside dining. There wasn't.

The website read there was "mexican fiesta" night 2x's a week. There wasn't.

On the third night our room was infested with fleas!!!

Our view was supposed to be ocean front, but it was more of a "Peek-a-boo" view.

The private safe in our room was automatically locked and was shut off from our access the night before departure. We had to have someone come in and open it at 10:30 PM the night before we were leaving so we could remove our belongings.

AND HERE IS THE REAL PISSER:
The concierge confirmed 3 times that there was a cab reserved for us for our early morning departure to the airport. They never called, the cab never showed up, and they made NO effort to remedy the situation. So, we paid the gardener $20 to take us to the airport in his own car.

So, in a shell, we will definitely come back to Providenciales, but we will NOT stay at The Alexandra. I suggest The Palms or The Veranda. Both were gorgeous, the restaurants were amazing, and the staff were very accommodating and friendly.

My wife and I spent a week at the Alexandra from November 7-14 for our honeymoon. We arrived to find that the entire resort was under extensive renovation. The lobby was in a converted room for the mean time. We were fine with the place being under renovation; we realize it was the off season and that's when work has to be done. The part that was annoying about it though, was the fact that for the first 2 days, starting at about 7:30, the pressure washer starts up and runs all day while the sidewalks are being cleaned. On top of that, the pool was closed for the first 3 days of our trip. The swim up bar was closed the enitre time, and there was not a restaurant option at the hotel either, as it was under renovation.

We spent 3 nights in our basic studio, which we were happy with. After having to leave the resort multiple times a day to go eat other places and buy groceries, we just got fed up, and asked to be upgraded. The staff at the Alexandra was great. They didn't hesitate to upgrade us, and we were moved into a 1 bedroom full suite. The upgrade gave us a stove and allowed us to expand our in room options, which saved us money in the long run, and the room was amazing. Once the renovations are completed, this hotel will be really nice. It would have been nice if we would have been told that the renovations were not complete. We probably would have changed hotels, but in the end, we had a good time.

Things to do: 1. rent a car 2. buy alcohol from the IGA 3. avoid the ghettos 4. avoid the locals

We also went fishing with Catch the Wave and had a great time. I would recommend them if you're looking for a fishing trip.

We went to most of the touristy restaurants. All of the reviews are pretty accurate. We like Sharkbites a lot. It's a less busy option to Danny Buoy's. My wife and I are both Texas A&M former students, and we got to watch the A&M/Baylor game there.

We got out and drove around most of the island one afternoon. We decided to try and the the Blue Hole. Don't waste your time. It's a hard to get to, looks dangerous, and is full of trash. The map we get from Avis, and one from the hotel showed that there were plantation ruins near where the hospital is, so we tried to find those. We pulled into the hospital parking lot, and saw what looked like a stone wall or foundation and it was overgrown and unaccessible. Don't waste your time on those either.

We did the half day snorkeling tour that runs out the Alexandra and had a lot of fun on it. i would recommend them if your looking for a snorkeling trip.

We booked a waterfront studio. It had a small balcony and a reasonable view of the ocean. On the first night the a/c quit. They moved us into a one bedroom apartment on the oceanfront and it was wonderful. Full kitchen separate dining and sitting areas, large balcony, etc. After having stayed in that room I would recommend getting it next time. If you like to cook the savings on expensive meals on the island pays for itself. In addition when we had some internet connectivity problems they were very responsive in resetting the router and providing us with an additional wireless router for better coverage in the apartment. The beach is awesome. The diving is good. The island is kind of crappy, but who is there for that.

We had a wonderful stay at the Alexandra. The resort had everything we needed and more. The location was perfect, The Alexandra is located in the center of Grace Bay. You have plenty of hotels and restaurants close by for dinner and drinks. The room was very comfortable with all the amenities that made our stay perfect. The balcony was huge and had a beautiful view of the ocean, pool and grounds. We had breakfast out there every morning. The kitchen had everything you needed and the washer and dryer where a great plus. The Wi-Fi was not working but the front desk was very accommodating and provided the DSL connection cables at no charge.

Places we enjoyed and recommend; Our best dinner was at the Coco Bistro. The place it self is very pretty and the food and service was excellent. Our second fave was the O'Soleil at the Somerset Hotel. The food was delish and the decor was sharp. The Anacaona at the Grace Bay Club was ok the best thing is the location. You are under the stars and hear the ocean as you dine.

We had a great time right next door at Marin located in the Veranda Resort. The drinks were great and the live music entertaining. The prices t TCI are very similar to dining and drinking in NYC so its not cheap but they don't disappoint either. We enjoyed our last evening at the Bagatelle Bistro & Beach Lounge located in the Gansevoort Hotel. It was a cool lounge and the music was decent its the only nightlife in the Island and its done by 1am very early for us but a little something is better than nothing. We also enjoyed lunch and dinner at Da Conch Shack it was the best ...very tasty. We also had lunch "Somewhere" at the Coral Gardens. If you go snorkeling by the fire reefs, right after the Beaches resort, you can enjoy a great lunch at Somewhere. The staff is friendly , the drinks are good and the food is tasty.

Places to see: We took the Dream tour and highly recommended it.They make three snorkeling stops. The first one we dove for conch. The best one is the 2nd stop where we enjoyed a large reef with magnificent sea life. They also stop at Iguana island and prepare a conch lunch with drinks. The third stop before heading to the hotel was to dive for sand dollars. It leaves around 9am and returns approx 1:30pm.

We enjoyed the reefs at the Coral Gardens. You can walk there from the resort about a 10 to 15 minute walk. We rented a car for our last two days and drove to several spots - very scenic Chalk Sound, The "Hole" which is very scary but amazing to see, Turtle Cove Marina, and Sapodilla Bay.

TCI has the most amazing beaches and The Alexandra is a great place with everything you need.
