Turks and Caicos is a nice place. The beaches are pretty.... The restaurants serve good food.
All the hotels look clean and safe. What makes the Somerset special is that they will make you feel
''like family''. We will never forget Scott ( the general mgr ) and Marjon ( I hope we spelled it right ) and Giovanni ..... Our Friends.
You will have lots of choices when considering where to stay in Turks and Caicos.... trust me.... The Somerset is a SPECIAL PLACE.

The Somerset is wonderful hotel set on magnificient grace bay. My husband and I just returned from a 5 day stay and really have no complaints. They met us with wet towels to freshen up and fruit punch. While waiting for our room to be ready we met with the helpful concierge who arranged dinner for us at Hemingways and Coyaba.
The room which was a standard garden(lowest price) was great, clean, beautiful bathroom, fridge, microwave, cork screw!! The pool area is beautiful, plenty of lounge chairs and shade. The beach in front of the Somerset is one of the best we saw along Grace bay, very wide, the beach guys were helpful, one, Amos, even cleaned up our Conch shell so we could bring it home not stinking like the ocean. The pool restaurant and bar are fine, standard food. We didn't eat at O'Soliel but went to happy hour and the drinks were very good. The front desk staff were very helpful arranging taxis when needed and even catching us before we went to the airport too early as our flight had been delayed. They let us stay in our room free of charge for an additional 4 hours! Overall the hotel is very nice, well maintained, I really felt like I was on vacation. There were a few children staying at the hotel, but they were all well behaved and never bothered us.
We ate at Hemingways which I would rate us just average, but nice setting.
The best dinners we had were at Coyaba and Bay Bistro. We had appetizers at Mango Reef one night, not great. Definitely recommend making a trip to the Graceway IGA for snacks and beers will save you some money. And of course DEFINITELY Go snorkleing with Island Vibes, Tino and Spike are great, was a highlight of the trip.

We have traveled a good bit in the Caribbean and would rank the Somerset and T&C among our favorite spots. We stayed in a 1BR unit in the Stirling Building and though set back from the beach, we loved waking up to the view of the beautiful pool and Grace Bay Beach behind it. The unit itself was well appointed and in perfect condition. We always had our choice of umbrellas on the beach and the property or beach never felt crowded (it was low season). We loved the chaise lounges by the pool which were so comfortable it was difficult not to fall asleep!

The pool restaurant, LunaSea served good food and made great drinks, though a bit expensive. We rented a car and drove to the nearby grocery store to make breakfast for ourselves each morning. We did not eat the complimentary continental breakfast, though we heard it was good.

The property is not large which we enjoyed as it never felt crowded. Another couple we spoke with said they preferred the Regent Palms next door as it was more active (crowded). They felt the Somerset was too quiet which is exactly why we liked it!
We would definitely stay here again and are already making plans for next year. The accommodations, beach, pool and overall atmosphere made for the perfect relaxing vacation. Our only complaint was the Internet connection was very spotty. That said, I have heard this is true at many properties in T&C.

Recently returned from T&C where we stayed at The Somerset and, of course, it was fantastic...again! This was our 4th trip to T&C and our 3rd to The Somerset; I guess you could say we really like it! Great to see the familiar faces of Winston, Norwyn, Warren, Marjon, et al. The weather was excellent everyday-- we had the usual late day thunderstorms, but they lasted 15 min. to an hour and then were gone. For each of our stays, we have been in The Sterling House (one bedroom suite). Each of the three suites we have stayed in has been very nice-- large, nicely decorated, and everything works as it should. This time we were on the top floor, so the typically great views were even better.

Some highlights included:

The Somerset's Caribbean night on the beach (Tuesday)-- great food (hard to beat jerk chicken, ribs, rice and peas, and rum punch) and DJ Snoopy did an awesome job entertaining the crowd.

Did a half day snorkel trip with Island Vibes and really enjoyed it. Tino and Spike were a lot of fun!

Walking to Graceway Gourmet for supplies and some tasty take-out.

Walking off the beach for lunch and drinks at Mango Reef and Hemingways.

Happy Hour at the O'Soleil bar; Norwyn mixed up some tasty drinks for us.

Dinners at Coco Bistro (that coconut cream pie is soooo good!) and Coyaba were great.

Of course, the beach was as spectacular as always!

Looking forward to a fifth trip to T&C!

We stayed at the Sommerset in a 3 bedroom, 3 bath in the Sterling building. It was perfect. We were traveling with our children. They are 18 and two 20 year olds. The condo was perfect for the family. Excellent sound proofing, lots of room for everyone to sit together in the living room and dining room. Kitchen was spacious and had everything and more then we needed. This was my third trip to TCI this year. I stayed at Royal West Indies in Jan & Villa Del Mar in March. Sommerset was my favorite. Front desk staff were above & beyond helpful. It was a quite time so no problem with chairs and there was always towels, whether we went for an evening swim or 7 am swim.
We didn't try O'Soliel but will on the next trip. The pool bar & grill was just ok & I'd rather Mango Reef or Hemmingways for an excellent beach lunch. Both are just 2 hotels down the beach in either direction. We did have room service continental for the free breakfast and it was great.

Room Tip: sterling building was great, ask for top floor. I wouldn't stay here in a garden room, they seem...

The Somerset, for the most part, exceeded our expectations. We were greeted upon arrival with a glass of chilled fruit punch and herbal-scented ice-cold washcloth. The 6 of us stayed five nights in an oceanfront 3 bedroom-3 bath villa, and the accommodations & furnishings were as luxurious and impressive as advertised.

We were approx 100 -150 feet from the powdery white beach and clear turquoise water, with nothing obstructing our amazing views. It was worth the extra price to be oceanfront rather than oceanview or no-view at all. When we weren't in the water, we all wanted to hang out on our private wide wrap-around covered balcony as much as possible, which had a table for 8 plus 6 comfortable chaises. Really, the views and level of comfort and relaxation on the balconies was amazing.

The kitchen was well-stocked with high-end appliances (large & small), granite, beautiful china & crystal, ample pots/pans/cutlery, etc. The bedrooms & bathrooms were good-sized & well-appointed. Plasma TVs were in every bedroom plus living room, and the sound system could be turned on or off in every room, including the balcony. Also, our place had paperbook books, music CDs & movies (VHS & DVD) for our use. The whole place had beautiful furnishings & fixtures, and we lacked nothing at all.

The negatives were in the details:
1 (Ice): we couldn't get ice easily, as neither our built-in Viking icemaker nor the built-in Viking freezer's icemaker were working. Maintenance said parts for the icemaker were "on order" and that the freezer needed to be defrosted in an hours-long process, but we had the feeling that these were already-known issues. We'd order ice to be brought up (as there isn't a community icemaker), but that would usually be forgotten, so we'd trundle over to the Somerset restaurant to ask for ice.
2 (Internet) Also, the hotel advertized in-room wireless internet, but it never worked anywhere in our entire villa-building. Again, we were given an excuse, which seemed to indicate a long-standing situation. This was quite an inconvenience, as we had to trek over to the office w/ computers in hand to keep up w/ our emails.
3 (I-Home) Also, all of the i-Home i-Pod players never worked in any of our rooms. At check-out, we asked for some consideration for these inconveniences and the Somerset obliged without argument (gave us a 30% discount off of one night which amounted to approx $500).

Back to the positives: The swimming pools were excellent, the bars & restaurants were fine (although in keeping with everything else on TCI, expensive). Continental breakfasts were included at no charge, and they were delicious w/ good coffee also. Croquet was fun, but the equipment is in shabby shape. The location of the hotel is near other hotels on Grace Bay Beach, so we could easily walk to other places from the beach. It seems you could walk for miles along this fantastic beach, and they weren't crowded at all. Above all, the Somerset really keeps their beach area in superb condition and has lots of water sports equipment and beach recliners & umbrellas available to their guests at no extra charge . The beach & the water are fabulous!

All in all, the Somerset is beautiful & luxurious, and we'd stay there again!

Room Tip: In my opinion, best rooms are ocean front

Where do I start ... my wife and I were celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary with another couple... this was our first time to Turks and Caicos. The Somerset property, rooms, and views were nothing short of breathtaking... everything was impeccaby clean, upscale, and new ... the service was off the charts... the price was amazingly affordable too. The staff were all warm and made each of us feel as if we were family. Each went above and beyond to deliver excellent service.

From "Miss Leoni", and "Owen", who welcomed us, to the staff who served us our complementary continental breafast each morning overlooking the lush exotic courtyard ...all went above and beyond to make our stay a very special one.

Happy hour at sundown by the pool bar/grill was a favorite of ours.

The sand beach, by the way, is like white flour under your feet, and the turquoise water beyond compare .

Several nights we simply walked down the beach to dine at a number of superb yet casual dining establishments under the stars.

The Somerset is centrally located on Grace Bay, on some nights we chose to buy our own food at the grocery store and eat in. It was a bit of hike to the nearest grocery store - but certainly walkable....the price of food, beer and wine on the island (even at the grocery store) appeared to be about double that of what we were used to paying back home in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area - so be prepared for a bit of sticker shock.

During our walks up and down the beach, we stopping at the various properties along the way... as nice as they were, they just didn't seem to live up to the Somerset.

You simply can't go wrong with this property for value, service and a breathtaking experience. It's simply the best there is to offer on Turks Caicos. No comparison.

I normally don't write reviews, but I could not in good conscience not acknowledge what these people have collectively done to make a bit of paradise on earth available to us during our stay. We will definitely be back again.
