Arrived at the hotel late afternoon. The front desk clerk was super sweet and informative on things to do on the island. The hotel itself has a small beach with a bar close by. The rooms are clean although needing an update ( older tile floors, fridge, microwave, etc). The balcony we had provided fantastic views of the bay and fort. Will return again!

Room Tip: Ask for high floors.

When I first found out the hotel was on its own island I was elated! We got a ferry from st croix to the hotel. The captains absolutely wonderful.

When we walked into our room discovered it was not all that. The view from 207 is great though! We stayed two days and the maids never came to our room. The food is great and the drinks are alright.

Some of the staff were really nice and a few more cranky.

I don't think we will be visiting hotel on the cay again.

This was our third trip to Hotel on the Cay; and while we have checked out other places, we keep coming back to this quiet island paradise. It is not fancy, but it is clean, comfortable, quiet, and affordable. The first thing we did was turn off the air conditioner, and open the doors to the natural trade winds. Ahhhh.

In the last year, the unit we stayed in had an updated shower and bathroom, and the cabinets of the kitchenette area. A fresh coat of paint brightened the whole room. The bed was very comfortable and had plenty of pillows. A broom and dustpan would have been nice to have in the room.

They have been doing a lot of sprucing up around the hotel grounds. The cascading pools were freshly painted, and new landscaping projects were in the works. The grounds crew and hotel staff were all very friendly. I enjoyed chatting with John about the beautiful plants and the iguanas (who like to eat the plants).

I love to snorkel, HOTC has some great snorkeling right off the beach and on the north side by the sea wall. Over the week I saw many fish, sea turtles, stingrays, squid, starfish, etc. Bring an underwater camera to capture the sights. Even when a cruise ship brought groups to the beach, there was plenty of space and chairs for all.

The town of Christiansted is a quick ferry ride away from your private island paradise, and all of the ferry captains were courteous and helpful. I felt very safe walking around the town, and venturing out on a roaming taxi to see more of the island. We were lucky enough to be there for their AgriFest, a three day fair.

We dined at some old favorites, Paradise Cafe and Luncheria, and found some new delights, Tutto Bene, and You Are Here. Since eating every meal out would be too much for us; we packed a small, softside cooler in our checked luggage with some lunchmeat, a steak, (rent the grill on the terrace) and some microwave breakfast sandwiches. A nice walk to the Shop and Save, or a taxi to the Plaza Extra are good for groceries.

We took a sunset sail this year on the Roseway, a 1925 schooner operated by World Ocean School. We have also gone on The Jolly Roger catamaran for their sunset sail. Both are very nice.

All in all, a very nice escape from a Minnesota winter!

After extending our stay in STX for a couple more days I searched priceline for a place to stay in Christiansted and found the Hotel on the Cay! The rate was right, about $100/night and the location sounded very interesting, being on its own little island. I was traveling with my family, ages 6, 4, and 2.

The best part of the property by far is the beautiful beach steps away from your hotel room! The food at the bar was great and the drinks were stiff! The property itself is under new management and there is some improvements that John the new Manager said they were doing. We stayed in room 114 and it was nice. It is a two room suite with a small kitchenette and a fridge. Flat screens mounted to the wall and a small deck in each room. There is a computer in the lobby that is fast and has a good internet connection and I was able to get wifi in the room. There was a very nice pool, but the beach was so awesome that we never used it! There is a sports shack on the beach where you can rent snorkel gear, jetski, kayaks, and paddle boats. There is a discount on the gear for hotel guests and AAA, Military, and a few others.

The boat ride from town to the island is maybe 200 yards and the boat captains were very very friendly and helpful! I noticed I was the only one that put some bread in their jar when other people were on the boat with us...The ride to and from the hotel on the boat is free for guest so tip your drivers! Lugging luggage from the car to the boat to the room was a bit of a hassle but you only have to do it twice... once when you get there and once when you leave and is so minor compared to what you get by staying at this wonderful hotel!

There is an ice machine that works great behind the lobby and you can buy some food items in the lobby if you wanted to. The location is right next to all the good food on the dock in Christiansted.

This place is perfect for families or couples! Basic Hotel, AWSOME beach and perfect for a nice relaxing beach vacation!

Room Tip: Room 114 is a little noisy just because it is right by the main entrance and the lobby, but it is cl...

I was introduced to this unique + amazing place by a couple who used to frequent the bar I worked at post college... their description inspired me to check it out for myself... one of my best memories, 100% recommend it + plan to visit again! When I vacation, I like to experience something new + different, this was so perfect. The hotel is on its own island, it is secluded, yet only a boat ride away from the 'mainland' which added to its impeccable charm, a local is there to 'ferry' you over as needed + btw he/she is typically making baskets out of leaves, which adds to the ambiance... the hotel island itself is amazing, levels of pools, amazing views of christiansted yet with a secluded island feel... we frequented the beach & bar daily + absolutely loved the privacy + intimacy of meeting the other travelers + owner of the hotel... I can't say enough about this place... I loved it, I want to return + tell everyone about it... but not too many people because that might ruin it:)

Room Tip: it doesn't matter... you shouldn't be in your room with a view like this

Last week was our third visit to Hotel on the Cay. If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere, and the best beach, scenery and snorkeling in Christiansted - look no further. HOTC is on a private island - accessed by ferry (a 2 minute ride that is free to guests). Rooms are CLEAN, very quiet and the bed is so comfortable!! The building sits on a well groomed beach that faces the Harbor and gives you a front row seat to the beautiful sun sets. There are plenty of sea creatures to discover as you enjoy the crystal clear water. There is a beach side restaurant/bar where you can get a great breakfast, lunch or cold drink. The hotel has a new manager, John, who goes out of his way to ensure your stay is perfect!! The hotel and grounds staff greet you each day and see that all your needs are met. The grounds and landscaping are being redone - making this hotel a true St Croix gem! ... I am already planning next year's trip to HOTC.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back get a great ocean breeze. Be prepared for exercise... there is no elevator, but a...

We had a wonderful trip this past week to St Croix and stayed atthe Hotel On the Cay at St Croix! This was our first trip to the Virgin Islands. You have your own little piece of Paradise at HOTC! A piece of paradise that gives total relaxation and comfort! The new manager John was very friendly and so helpful to ensure that our vacation was just what we needed. He was busy working to met everyone's needs for an amazing vacation. The staff was so helpful and so friendly. Beautiful landscaping, such a relaxing atmosphere. The scenery was gorgeous with God's special touches on gorgeous sunrises and sunset. Snorkeling was also a first for me and is available right on the island. I saw lots of fish, squid , turtles (even swam close to a turtle). Lovely redone bathroom's and many improvements happening everyday!! Love the HOTC ! Hope and I pray we get another opportunity to enjoy St Croix at Hotel on the Cay..........thanks John and staff for a rich and memorable time with you!
A very satisfied visitor!!!
