As a longtime Virgin Islands resident I know a little bit about the islands. I know all the cookie-cutter hotels and tourist attractions and all the bad and really good restaurants. Oh, I almost forgot, I know all the bars too! So take my word, the Hotel on the Cay is not a cookie-cutter property.

Our group is from St. Thomas and we were getting a little stir crazy so we headed to St. Croix for a little change of scenery.

We found the Hotel on the Cay to be a little paradise within a paradise. Its five-acre property is conveniently situated on Protestant Cay, just 60 seconds by ferry from downtown Christiansted St. Croix.

During the day we tool advantage of the great hotel beach offering beautiful sand, clean-clear water and plenty of water activities. There’s was always plenty of beach towels, chairs/tables and chaise lounges to make our beach day a little more pleasant. The beach bar and restaurant was also just steps away and so were the Pina Colada! Some people in our group weren’t into the beach so they headed to the big pool and some jumped on the ferry and went shopping to some of the nearby specialty shops. Everyone said the downtown was really a great place to explore and get some good island wears.

At night, we’d be on the cay looking over to Christiansted and you’d swear you were some where in Europe. All the little white lights were twinkling at us from the old-world Danish designed architecture—amazing!

For the price and the location you can’t beat a vacation at the Hotel on the Cay.

REALLY needs modernizing. Should be a very quiet location but the HEAVY hotel doors easily slam and are LOUD. Neither Internet or WiFi available while we were there. We had no problem getting back & forth from there...was a bit fun. Nice to have fridge and microwave, would have liked a coffee maker. Sheets thin and mine had holes.

The staff mostly accommodating and helpful. IF you are going to be catching an early flight out, check out the night before (something they don't tell you) because the office doesn't open until atleast 8 (sometimes a bit later.

Despite needing updating & the slamming doors, the location was overall quiet and a nice place to hang if you can overlook the slightly shabby nature. Fun Mocko Jumby and Fire Limbo all you can eat buffet was a lot of fun and the food was quite good.

The only other downer was the hotel arranged for their driver to take us out to one of the far beaches. He was supposed to pick us up at a particular time. He was over 2 hours late and didn't seem to care. Don't use the hotel driver if you want someone you can count on.

Hosting a dozen friends at a hotel to which they have never visited can be a nerve-wracking experience - unless you are going to Hotel On The Cay. Just recently, I arranged for a group of my friends and I to spend Memorial Day Weekend at this fabulously relaxing, somewhat retro oasis. Everyone raved about the peaceful ambience but most of all, it was the staff that earned the overall accolades. Without exception, everyone raved about their experiences. Our group traveled from nearby St. Thomas for the long weekend. The getaway was a spectacularly memorable event for each of us. The proximity to downtown Christiansted from this tiny island is such a joy - and the 90 second ferry ride, a complimentary trip for hotel guests, truly is the ultimate upbeat definition of the phrase: 'So near and yet so far.' Visit and enjoy.

Stayed a week at Hotel on the Cay, and competed in the St. Croix 70.3 Triathlon, too. New manager at the hotel was very engaging, called us by name, and listened to our suggestions and ideas. This hotel/timeshare has had a checkered past, but seems on the road to a great recovery. New guest services team, rooms were clean and tidy, and the grounds are getting spruced up. Not only that, it's a great value and you can't beat the location.

hotel on the cay has rooms with AMAZING views....thats it! it is dated, very dirty, and has no cable, or internet service. it is a timeshare with no one in charge, so it is falling apart. really sad! the restaurant on the island is NOT connected to the hotel, so they close at 3 pm. no grocery stores near, so taxi drives are necessary. first and LAST trip~
