“LOVED the view!!”
Reviewed 16 August 2012

I stayed here with a family member that was getting married. She is a native of St. Croix and I love visiting the island. The view from our room was specatular!! The room was very comfortable and clean. The room was also near the pool. We had a great location and amazing view of the ocean. When on St. Croix visit the Tamarind Reef Hotel.

The hotel is outstanding. Everyone is super nice there. Each room has their own balcony. The bathroom is a little small. One thing is that there isn't any elevators. It is right on the ocean.

When you order food at the bar area, they are slow bringing it out to you.

My family went to St. Croix for my cousin's wedding. It was held at Tamarind, on the beach. The staff did a super job.

I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone that visits St. Croix.

I've been here twice and the snorkeling is the best on the island, the folks are very nice, and the service was very good! The problem is the room itself. They are very VERY basic with very VERY basic supplies. The views are amazing and we did enjoy having the mini-kitchen for small meals. But, so many little things could be done to jazz up the room. While the room didn't have a gross factor (it was certainly clean), it did have a blah feeling. The hotel is one of those hotels that you think to yourself, "If I had $, I would do this and that and fix this place up in a flash." So, the fixes are minimal. If you don't mind the dated blah hotel feel and are just there for the snorkeling, location, and view, you are set.
We LOVED the beach and the snorkeling. The coral is gorgeous and Mimi and her dad are two of the nicest people on the island. They are in charge of the snorkeling hut and give you fins, masks, kayaks (if you want) and great tips on where to go to see all the great stuff. It's an easy swim and you feel safe yet a world away even though you are just a short distance from the shore. While I do have a favorite hotel on StX, I will tell you, this is my favorite place to snorkel on the island. We saw everything almost every time we went out-- schools of fish, stingrays, turtles, lobster, etc... But it's a snorkeling beach not a wade in, wade out beach. There's NOT really a place to stand in the ocean and enjoy the waves (but that's the norm where there's good snorkeling so it's a trade off). They have great beach chairs and beach huts, but you just hang out on the beach, snorkel IN the ocean, and then hop into the pool. The pool and the poolside restaurant/bar are fine and the location of the pool and bar are beautiful with the views. Again, it's a cute, little hotel with really nice people... the rooms just feel a little too basic for what this locale deserves.

My wife and I spent a week at Tamarind last November. Overall the place was nice. St. Croix is a very relaxed island and Tamarind was no exception. The layout is like any motel, two story stretch of building with parking in front of the room and a balcony or patio in the back. This is a convienient set up as you will need a car to get around on the island and you dont have to trudge through a lobby like in a big resort. We had a ground floor room with a nice little patio and lawn backing right to the rocks and the water. It was kept clean and everything was functional. We had a mini kitchen with a fridge which is nice. The staff was always friendly and accommodating. The pool is clean and sizable. We enjoyed the bar for some good drinks and the mahi mahi sabwiches were awesome. We had a nice time watching the sunset with a few drinks on the lawn area overlooking the inlet to the marina.

The downside to the Tamarind was the beach. While most beaches in the Carribean are rocky, this one was all rocks and not very functional. We chose to drive around and check out the other beaches on the island anyway.

It was not the best weather week so we missed out on a few things like the kayaks and going to Buck Island. Next time we just won't go in November!

We wanted to spend a day at a resort and were glad we picked Tamarind Reef. Friendly staff from bartender to the staff where you rent snorkle equipment and tiki hut. Very good snorkling and Mimi was helpfull on where to see the fish. Food and drink was also tasty. Glad we picked the Tamarind

My wife and I just returned from a great trip to St. Croix and we were very happy with my decision to stay at the Tamarind Reef! We took advantage of the free kayaks and snorkel gear and kayaked over to the island about 500 yards off the hotel beach. We parked the kayaks on the beach and snorkeled for awhile, we were the only people on the island! We loved the food and company at the "Deep End" resataurant! Our bartender Greg was a true professional and made the best "Painkiller" we had our whole stay! He even invited us out on his boat on a scuba trip to collect some of the invasive "Lion fish", we don't scuba but just enjoyed the ride! The hotel is in a great location, just 5 min. from downtown Christiansted. Be sure and visit the Fort Christian Brew Pub on the boardwalk for a sunset dinner or get there around 10pm and dance by the bar to the DJ spun tunes! Visit Buck island and St. John, but don't bother with St. Thomas, it's crowded and there is lot's of traffic!

We stayed here on this our first trip to the US Virgin Islands. Based on the wonderful setting, great staff and overall experience, we will be back. The resort beach and pool are great to relax, read and catch some sun. Good food in the Deep End!! Jerry was the best to recommend sites to see and help us navigate the snorkeling. Sharon steered us to Kim's restaurant in downtown Christiansted. The local cuisine was exactly what we'd been trying to find. We met Lorena, the owner and her daughter Carol. It was such a wonderful experience. Also rent a car. We put over 250 miles on our jeep, well worth it!! Cane Bay Beach had beautiful snorkeling, but take drinks and some food, it's a bit pricey if not. Make certain you have at least one meal at Villa Morales in Fredricksted. J.T. makes the best mojito I have ever had. Locally owned and operated for over 60 years! Well worth the visit for homemade dishes that are reasonably priced in a family atmosphere.

Room Tip: A room with a kitchenette was a great value....good for left overs, breakfast foods and storing your...
