Description: As one approaches the 1729 House, the tan one across from Fort Christiansvaern Park, the Galangal sign, made from wine corks by a patron, is hardly visible from the street. Opening the aubergine door is almost magical as one steps inside an elegant white-table dinning room filled with original paintings, and Indo-Colonial architectural elements. Sitting down at the cool, dry granite bar, one just knows their Martini is going to be ice cold and the red wine will be at 65 degrees. Galangal specializes in authentic modern Thai and French cuisine, combining traditional ingredients with international flavors and techniques. Freshness is the key to Galangal's bold flavors and consistent quality. Spices from Vietnam and Singapore, curry pastes from Bangkok and unusual Asian vegetables grown in Galngal's own gardens, give Galangal's dishes their unique and authentic flavors. Even the soup is made a la minute. Little know fact, Galangal, probably has the best NY strip and pommes frites on island. Dinner 5:30 - 9:30. Closed Sunday and Monday

“Great restaurant that you don't want to miss”

My wife and I had dinner twice at Galangal last week. It is Thai themed but they also have fresh fish, steak and roasted duck if you are so inclined. We were in Christiansted for two weeks and happended to see the restaurant as we passed by on our way shopping. It was extremely hard to find the telephone number to make a dinner reservation (I had to use the internet to find it). When we entered we were warmly greeted and escorted to our table. Our waitress was fantastic in explaining everything on the menu and in explaining its decor. It is very elaborately decorated. Prices are comporable to other prices in other restaurants and we felt that we got great value for what we paid. Don't be put off by other reviews that i read that its pricey. Its not..
We met one of the owners the first night and really enjoyed his interest in our comments and perspective. It started to rain before our dinner was over and he graciously lent my wife his umbrella for our trip back to Hotel on the Cay and across on the ferry boat.

We prmised to come again to dinner a couple of nights later as we really enjoyed the restaurant and staff. He graciously told us to return it then. When we came the second time we were warmly welcomed and escorted to our table by the window. Another couple came in celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary (they were locals) and we established a warm conversation with them during the evening. After another great dinner we had an after dinner drink at the bar and were able to talk to the other owner and a couple of the other waitresses. All were charming and helpful. Nedless to say we loved this place and since we timeshare owners at Hotel on the Cay in
Christiansted and come back every year we will continue to make this one of our favorite restaurant stops during our stay. You would be wise to do the same. We told other timeshare owners about our experience and every one raved about Galangal.

My husband and I met our family at the new restaurant and were surprised that this one day Pizza Hut now a beautiful Asian restaurant. We enjoyed the decor and dinner selections so much. Every detail was super and would highly recommend this restaurant if you are on the island. Thank you to Mr. Mayer, the owner who was kind enough to make sure he called us a cab back to our resort.
Thank you again!

“Superb”

We were unfortunately only able to visit this restaurant once during our stay in St Croix this time but I can not wait to go back!
The restaurant was recently opened so service was not 100% but it was friendly and I'm sure the expert owners (who have a long history in the restaurant and hotel business) have it ironed out now.
As to the food - sumptuous. Beautiful presentation, well spiced...
The atmosphere is calming and authentic.

Just returned home from a vacation on St Croix. What a beautiful island, but our dining experience at Galangal was over the top. I would reccommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys southern Asia food, beautiful ambiance, personable and knowledgeable servers; Tina and Katie....you two were wonderful. We will see you again in December!!

“We're not in Pizza Hut any more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2010

I lived on St. Croix for almost ten years until 2008 and returned for two weeks on a business trip in June 2010. A friend who loaned me her condo recommended Galangal, which is in the former Pizza Hut location in downtown Christiansted between Company and King Streets. So I was pleased when island friends suggested we have dinner there together to try it out. We were blown away by the sensational decor, interesting menu and personalized service, not to mention superb air conditioning. I returned the following week after an "Art Thursday" gallery event with two other friends who go to Galangal often. The owners, Arthur and Gregory, once owned Cormorant Reef resort, and have spared no detail in making this restaurant an elegant, intimate oasis. It is a sophisticated and delightful addition to St. Croix's list of top priority spots for dining.
