After our great morning experience ziplining, we thought we would take in some local history. We decided to go to Blackbeard's Castle to have a bite to eat. After a $20, 3 minute cab ride, the lady at the front gate told us we would be required to pay the $10 per person walking tour fee to have access to the restaurant. There were three of us. We did that, but what she didn't tell us was the restaurant was not open. There was a bar open. At first we were told they didn't serve food and to go down the back stairs to the restaurant by a guy dressed as a pirate. I guess we should have known not to trust a pirate...lol. Another guide (really the only unfriendly person we met on the island) said we had to go down into town to eat. This is about 10 mins after paying $20 to ride up the hill and $30 to walk in the gate. We decided to ask the lady at the bar if there was food. She said, yes, hamburgers and hotdogs. We were so hungry, we said that was fine. After a very long wait we had a couple yummy rum drinks and three cheese burgers for $50!! Oh well, live and learn tourist! LOL. The "castle" is one small 40 foot tower, but you can go in it and up to the top, but that's about it. The views were wonderful, and we did learn about some pirate history from some very colorful guides. But, all in all, not really worth it.
