“Great Visit on a Budget”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We visited over New Years and had a great visit. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Shaune had plenty of tips and useful information to help us out around the island during our stay. It is very close to the airport like many have said, just a walk right up the hill. Airport noise was never an issue though. Room was a little small but clean and had a nice view of the water. Overall we were very pleased with our stay here.

I have used this hotel 3x over the last few year's as a stop over. Traveled to the island's enough to know that a late afternoon can create ferry issue's. It happened on this trip and as other's scrambled based on a plane delay, I had the piece of mind of having a room. Room's are dated, but they have A/C and functional WIFI. This time shower was not very functional. The hotel was understaffed, but they did a great job doing the best they could as large plane was cancelled and they had last minute bookings. Great bar and restaurant. I was told a new chef and the food was great. Comp Rum Punch for everyone in the room. Most people at the hotel and travelers or plane delay's so it is a great place to meet people from all over the world, at the bar/rest. $8 cab ride to the shopping and dock area. $15-$20 cab ride to Red Hook.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room facing the water. Not many true waterviews, but the room on the 'back...

We stayed at the Carib for one night between sailing and flying out. It was adequate, and actually better than expected. There were four of us in a two bed room.

The room was fine; adequately air conditioned, clean and sold, full sized (not queen) beds. The rooms have a porch. We were on the first floor, so there was not much of a view, which was fine. Parking was readily available.

The highs:
Convenient to the airport; nice staff who generally tried to help out, but were constrained by limitations due to being the high season (including lack of lots of additional towels, and not being able to get a late checkout); restaurant on site (though over priced, and we were hoping for Mexican, but it recently converted over to "ocean"); access to water and pool, both with places to sit. Rum punch on check in. Can play games in the bistro area.View of the city.

The lows:
Typical hotel rooms, no fridge or microwave, limited access to the sea with no real beach (you really must go to their sister property just down the bay); no snorkels and such on site; a bit isolated from town; constant minor noise from the industrial area across the bay.

I was actually not expecting much from the property, but found it fit the bill for the most part and the staff generally tried to help out. My biggest disappointment was that there were no water toys, i.e., snorkels, fins, masks, on site, and you had to go down to the sister property to get those. When you do go down, you find out the person does not open until 10 am, which was much too late for us given that checkout was at noon. I really would not call it a beach resort since the beach is minimal at best, and they transport you down to the other property to really be on a beach.

While there are better choices on the island, this property is a reasonable option, particularly if you are taking an early flight in the morning.

My family of seven stayed at the Carib the night before flying out after ten days visiting and sailing the BVI's. It was a pleasant surprise and everyone enjoyed their stay. The rooms were big and we found them to be very clean and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the restaurant, bar and pool area. The food was excellent and reasonable. The kids loved the pool and small beach area. We will stay there again our next time to the area.

Room Tip: Lower floor rooms close to the lobby are close to pool and restaurant.

When you arrive to the lobby, the presentation is not the best, very outdated. Sean was great at registration and make you forget the lobby. The room are good size, great balcony and view. The bathroom, was a different story, the shower head wasn't the right type, the door was shorter than the space, the window didn't have curtains. The bed was very comfortable, poor TV reception and no internet. Limited privacy, all other rooms noises were heard. The restaurant was the worst, really bad service, the food offer limited and the prices high.

The Best Western Carib Beach is located within walking distance to the airport. Really. 3 minute walk from the arrival lounge to the front desk. That's convenient.

It is an older property and suffers in comparison to some of the more modern hotels in the surrounding area.

But if you are a transient traveler, needing a place to stay overnight while awaiting another flight or prepping to charter a boat, this is the best place to stay.

The staff was one of the better ones we have ever encountered in a Best Western environment. It was obvious that the management is working hard to make service a priority.

From the night security staff to the girls at the front desk, the wait staff at the restaurant and the housekeeping staff, the whole group just demonstrated a high degree of pride in their work. You will find these people willing to stop and talk, sharing their love of the island.

A couple of caveats. Restaurant closes at about 9 PM and there is no other place to eat within walking distance, Water is cistern fed, and if it has been dry and the water truck is late, there may be a delay in your morning shower. It will come back on, just be patient.

Overall, if you are looking for a fun place, inexpensive with a nice staff, this is high on our list.

Room Tip: Ask for a good waterfront view.

We stayed here for total of 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised by everything...very friendly staff (found reading material for me), great new restaurant (fish tacos and a free rum punch ), and a swimming pool and small beach. AND very close to airport , which allowed us to walk there from the hotel. The room had a partial ocean/bay view and was large enough for 3 adults. We liked it very much. We taxied to Charlotte Amalie for the ferry to Virgin Gorda , where we spent the rest of vacation.

Room Tip: Room 125 has been renovated.
