For $300.00 per night, I was staying at the Motel 6. The bathroom was rust encrusted, the toilets had issues flushing. The beach and pool were nice. The restaurant buffet dinner tasted great but it was very expensive. The Continental breakfast was good, and very filling. The staff actually was very nice. However, when our toilet broke in the middle of the night, they didn't send anyone until 9am the next morning. Never in my life have I ever heard of that. I have stayed in hotels all over the world, and I would never stay here again. The hotel is very old and grimy, and they need a complet renovation, and the room I stayed in was one of the newer ones that supposedly had high speed internet, but that was just a farce. There was no internet in the hotel, the entire time I was there.
I won't make this mistake again.

Rented four rooms for the family over New Years, my fourth visit to Emerald Beach. Love the view from the room, beach attendant Donald was great, expanded deck at the restaurant was great, Sunday brunch, Judith was helpful at the front desk. Restaurant menu expanded. Rooms clean. Had a great cabbie, Leppie, drive us around. Beach clean and very enjoyable. Emerald Beach is the perfect place to base your vacation. Going back for fifth visit in February, 2007.

It's a very good moderate hotel that allows guests PLENTY of room on the beach, a decent-sized room, and all rooms face the ocean. The shuttle was no longer "FREE" when we stayed from March 3-9. By the end of the trip, they were no longer giving discounts for return trips from town -- but what can you do? The restaurant was great - you are about 50 feet from the ocean. Also, the beach bar was fun.
The good:
1. the proximity to the beach
2. It was a quiet hotel, not too many people
3. Nice free continental, even if they do ask for tips.
4. Close to the airport and close enough to town.
5. Great jumping off point if you are a "do-er." If you are an all-inclusive junkie, then stay somewhere geared toward that type of vacation. From the BW Emerald Beach, we took a day trip to St. John, sightsaw in Charlotte Amalie, and took a day sail to the BVI - even though the embarkation for that trip was in Red Hook. From what we saw of Red Hook, we thought it was more fun to stay near Charlotte Amalie.

The Not so Good:
1. Day trippers from cruises take the chairs and bar seats from about noon-3. Plan accordingly.
2. Local kids took over the pool on the weekend when it was especially dead.
3. The rooms show a bit of wear - not major though.
4. No one was consistent on the shuttle to town: first it was free, then $3 with a pickup for $3, then just a one-way shuttle...

Great beach, OK rooms but then it's all downhill. Sour and unhelpful reception staff, lots of noise from the airport and the worst club sandwich in the world. Also we had no hot water overnight - it was fixed next day. No management could be contacted after 5pm on Saturday.

stayed at the emerald beach resort from Feb 18 to 25.
The free breakfast is good (english muffin, bagel, danish, cereal, muffins, ciffee, juice) but i ordered pancakes off the menu which were delicious. the ocean is gorgeous and not very crowded. the other beaches on the island are jam-packed with day trippers from the cruise ships, so it was nice to have our own beach with plenty of room. the snorkeling is actually quite good on the left curve of the bay. i saw the same fish there that i did at coki beach and at trunk beach on st johns (these two are supposed to be the best for snorkeling), and i also saw a turtle.
we had a couple of meals at the italian restaurant at the hotel (lasagna and fettucini) which were on a level with the food at olive garden. the rooms are what you'd expect at a best western, adequate. we made good use of the fridge in the room and got sandwich meats and bread at the grocery store nearby. i advise renting a car to get around. taxi's are expensive and you can't walk to anywhere quickly. they drive on the left but it's not hard with bumper to bumper traffic, you just get in line and follow the guy in front of you.

My husband and I stayed at the Emerald Beach Hotel from February 2nd to 14th and had a wonderful vacation. We found the staff extremely accomodating, since we needed a ground floor room (I am handicapped). Never have I known so many hotel staff members by name as in this one, and we have travelled all over the US and Europe. People just went out of their way to be nice to us and we payed a very reasonable rate. Starting with Alexandra who checked us in, to Bernard with whom we hit it off speaking in French, Joel Kling, general manager who went out of his way to find me a replacement battery for my camera, Euna, one of the waitresses who gave me her own package of instant oatmeal when I had an upset stomach, and Andrew, the young electrician, who came right away to attend to some problem. Genia at the reception who was "calm under fire", and then Patricio, the terrific cook who modified dishes to accomodate my fussy stomach.
We found that if you tell people that you are happy with their service they try even harder. People with unreasonable expectations will be dissappointed.
Our room was clean and comfortable; mostly we had enough towels etc. Our chamber maid, Annette, was a doll, who accomodated several special wishes.
The beach is heavenly, the pool clean and if one wants a little variety one can walk over to the beachcomber. A shuttle service into Charlotte Amalie is provided free once a day in the morning.

I traveled to St. Thomas for a girl's only vacation. We booked everything through our local travel agent and were directed to the Emerald Beach Resort. The photos on the website were pleasant enough but we were soon to discover quite deceiving. We had a bad experience from the beginning. We were delayed on 1 of our flights and didn't get to St. Thomas until the day after our original schedule. When we arrived we were helped by one of the rudest people we encountered on the island and told we would have to wait THREE hours to get into our rooms as they had given them to someone else the night before because we didn't show up. When we inquired about a refund we were told that is not their policy. We had paid for these rooms months beforehand. We had 3 rooms and 1 of them had mildew/mold on the shower curtain and above the shower and had something smeared on the wall by the light switch. Another room had a broken ceiling all around the bathroom light fixture. The waitress in the restaurant was very rude, telling us if we wanted something to drink from the bar "we could walk over and get it ourselves." We were very disappointed in our stay at their hotel. Thank goodness everyone else on the island was great and the hotel didn't ruin our entire trip.
