We stayed here for three nights before going on a sailing trip around the British Virgin Islands.
The pros- clean, inexpensive rooms. Room number 4 has a very comfortable mattress with adjustable sleep numbers. Great views. Nice complementary continental breakfast. The owners Beth and Ron are super friendly and helpful. Really delicious dinner served on Thursdays thru Saturdays(extra cost). Snacks, cold drinks, and alcoholic beverages available with an honor bar system. Local beach glass jewelry available at the front desk. Friendly cats and new puppy Marly if you are missing your own pets. Clean swimming pool.
The cons- need to take a taxi to go just about anywhere( average $7-10 per trip per person), rooms number 4 and 16 have very small one person showers. Can be noisy especially the nights that dinner is served.

We just made reservations for our fifth year at Island View. We have stayed there before and after our sailing trip every year since some friends told us about it and now extend our stay in the islands just so we can spend time at Island View. We have stayed in both the poolside and balcony rooms and love each. These aren't the standard stale boxes like hotels. The rooms are very comfortable, although most guests spend more time on the veranda or by the pool. The views from the balconies and the veranda are stunning, of the harbor, the seaplane base and all those sailboats.
The veranda is our favorite place. It's a perfect blend of shade and warm breezes, with chairs for reading and tables for games or using the wi-fi, which works well. It's also a great place to meet new friends if you like. The honor bar is a fantastic luxury; it's always available without having to track down a "mixologist." Ron serves up the best steaks we've had anywhere in the continental U.S. and particularly in the islands. There are also great dinner options if you're not into good steak.
Ron and Beth make guests feel like family, whether you're on your fifth year or first day. The staff has always been friendly and capable, ready to call a taxi or give you beach recommendations. We return every year in part just because of the overall friendly atmosphere and to see Ron and Beth.
I saw three negative reviews of Island View. One leaking bathroom incident led to two of those. I sympathize with those guests, but we've never had any problem getting help from the staff when necessary. The other, negative review was very surprising. My only suggestion is that if you enjoy rooms that are antiseptic boxes ventilated only with stale air conditioning in a high-rise surrounded by three-acre pools with tiki bars, go to a resort hotel. If your preference is bored staff in livery and insulation from the surroundings, go to a resort hotel. As for the noise, this is the Caribbean, complete with the ubiquitous roosters everywhere. That's part of the charm and why people go there instead of Miami Beach or somewhere similar.
Island View is one of our favorite places and we would go there to stay [and get a steak] even if we weren't on a sailing vacation. I recommend it to all of our friends [and to anyone else going to the Virgin Islands]. All of our friends love it and repeat their visits there on trips to the islands.

Room Tip: We love the balcony rooms for the views; they're great for reading and watching the seaplanes...

We only spent one night at the Island View and it was fabulous! We arrived on St. Thomas from Tortola before noon and we were welcomed to the Island View with smiling faces that allowed us to check in very early that day. All the guests were out on day excursions which left the entire place to us. We enjoyed some down time on the veranda with an icy cold beer and then we had the pool all to ourselves! Ron and Beth checked on us several times (guess we looked a little worn out) and Ron grilled us up some hotdogs to hold us over until dinner. Dinner was fabulous! I was wishing I'd not eaten that hotdog because the steak was delicious! Did I mention it's also enormous. I would recommend the Island View to anyone, we loved the place. The people were kind, fun, and welcoming, it's like spending time at your friends house. Everyone was very welcoming. Ron and Beth - thanks for the lift to the airport; give Marley a big hug for us! - Ronnie and Michelle

This was my 4th stay at Island View Guesthouse and every time I come it is more beautiful than the last. The newly remodeled baths in the balcony rooms are beautiful as is the new travertine tile around the pool area. Ron and Beth and their staff work tirelessly to make things perfect for their guests. Always hate going home after spending week here.

From the minute we arrived we knew this was a very special place. Although we had some crazy scheduling based on when our ferries were coming and going, the owners were extremely accommodating! If you are looking for a stuffy, uptight place, this is definitely not it, this is more like showing up at a best friends house (who just happens to run an A class B&B)

The rooms were clean and bright, the staff is amazing, and the dinner is out of this world. We will definitely be back, and soon.

We just returned from a 2 day stay at Island View. As a “glass half full” person, I can typically find positive aspects in most negative situations. Sadly, however, I found our stay at Island View extremely frustrating. Negative things just *kept* happening, and it ultimately became a bit ridiculous. Initially, we discovered that the sliding glass door to the room’s balcony/deck was in disrepair and would not open. Although we were assured someone would come fix it, that never happened. Next, we had no light bulbs above the bathroom sink. The last straw, however, was when we heard “rain” inside the room. Upon entering the bathroom, we saw water pouring out of the shower’s light fixture. Luckily, the light was not on, as this could have been a dangerous situation. As we tried to remove our personal items from the bathroom, several ceiling tiles collapsed due to the leak and fell to the floor. Again, we were relieved that no one was standing directly under them at the time they fell.

More disappointing than the disrepair of our room was the poor customer service we encountered afterward. Several comments from the owners/staff included: “Luckily, it was just a leak from the room upstairs and won’t cost a lot to fix.” and “So sorry, we might be able to get you another room later on today”. Quite honestly, the owners seemed more concerned with how much their repairs would cost and their own inconvenience. Considering that the bathroom was unusable and that our personal belongings were all wet, we were hoping for a bit more attention to the solution. Once our room was changed, we were given a reduced rate, but only after we asked for it. There were many opportunities for the owners to offer this, but we were ultimately put in the awkward position of asking for a reduction in our nightly room cost. This seemed more than reasonable, considering that our room was not usable. The owners are very personable, but I’m not sure that they are skilled at what it takes to run a business.

The upside was that there is a great honor bar and the dinner was fantastic. I won’t return to Island View again. If I did, however, it would be for dinner and definitely not a room!

Anyone one would agree, this is a Guest House owner's worst nightmare. Ron & I have been working on a much needed remodel of six bathrooms this summer for our upcoming season and had guests who had a disappointing stay with us shortly after our major construction. It was an unfortunate & regrettable accident with a leak from a shower above. We were very sorry and had hoped compensating their room would show our sincere apology. Our biggest regret, these guests did not get our best. We will continue to add the finishing touches.
Sincerely,
Ron & Beth

We used Island View as a start and end point for our week long trip to Tortola. There were 4 of us staying. The first night we shared one room because 2 of our group were flying in at different times and arriving late. So we opted to the provided air mattress for the night. When we arrived it was beyond hot in St Thomas and we were just ready for some cool air. Found out the A/C didn't work in our unit and there was little breeze with all windows and sliding door open. The owners gave us a fan which helped a little, but it was still a minimal sleep night.

On the return visit, we stayed 2 nights and it really just killed a great trip. The owners are attempting to renovate so the bathrooms look great. But the rooms are in a state of "not quite done". So many things just weren't what we expected for the price. We had 2 rooms this time and our friends room had a leak in the ceiling and the ceiling tiles collapsed on them in the middle of the night with water and dirt/debris covering everything in the bathroom including their personal items. There were several things missing in the room as well. Our room seemed to be ok, but on further inspection was full of tiny ants. When we went to check out, the owners apologized for the problems, but we actually had to ask for a reduction of our bill based on the problems we experienced.

The good stuff:
Great honor bar that is fully stocked
The staff is great and you will soon feel like family
The food is outstanding and makes me think they should really just open a restaurant. Best steak we have ever eaten!

This place is under renovation so if you are willing to put up outlets without covers, bugs in your room and refrigerators that don't get cold, this might be your place. But we won't be back.

Room Tip: We had 3 different rooms, none were perfect.
