“Great date night!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2013

This is by far the perfect place on island to have a date night! Hands down, the BEST steak... It is so cool being able to watch Ron grill... It feels like home. Ron and Beth (the owners) are personable and welcoming... They make sure everyone is satisfied and having a great time! The prices are more than reasonable and the service is exceptional. Faith was our server and she was very attentive and sweet! Can't wait til our next date night here!!!! :-D

It's the best bar none. This property is perfectly situated for great views of the harbor. We got bumped off our flight and we knew where we wanted to stay having been there before. It's 5 min. from the airport and close to downtown.Ron and Beth make you feel right at home. There are steps to some rooms but there are so many interesting things to look at along the way that we never mind which room they put us in. The room was clean as always. The room has a view but hanging out at the breakfast bar veranda is better. There's a wonderful open view and It's equipped with tables and furniture that are very comfortable and we spent much time here answering emails and visiting. There is really nothing else we needed while we stayed here.

We stayed here for a night in April after reading many of the raving reviews of the hotel. Overall, it was a nice stay, but there were several disappointments that we had not anticipated.

Inside the room itself is quite nice, spacious and nicely decorated. Outside wasn't as nice, as we were placed in a much older frame building that is detached from the main structure and were placed on the bottom of the 3 floors. As it is constructed, being on the bottom floor involved having to descend 2 flights of stairs (the top floor is even with the pool deck level). But as I said, the room was fine and the bathroom better than average, even. The bed was comfy enough and the room ac kept the unusual noises (gurgling?) that we constantly heard outside of the room before running the ac out.....as well as the car noise from the road located directly below.

Another disappointment was that we booked this specifically for the spectacular views that we have read about, a nice way to cap off the end of a wonderful island hopping trip.......but to see any sort of view we had look through 3 or 4 large high voltage power lines at eye level that seemed so close that we could touch them. Of course we couldn't, but I'm convinced that we could have tossed our socks over them if so inclined. Not only was this a major disappointment, I am not too happy sleeping so near the damaging invisible electromagnetic fields generated by these lines. But it was just for one night, so we didn't complain. (Room 11, BTW)

One final complaint was the location. Yes, if you aren't staying in our room the odds are that you'll have a wonderful view, a big advantage to the location, but the $7pp taxi ride each way to town wasn't expected. A festival was gearing up for the weekend, so the shops were going to have extended hours according to the host, so we ventured into town only to find that all of the shops were closed and there was nothing to do, so after a short stroll decided to head back to the room $28 poorer for our effort. I know it's not much money in the scheme of things, but I hate just throwing money away for nothing. Also, we discovered that the local taxi drivers call this guesthouse the "hell hole" because of how difficult it is for them to drive to it, with the narrow road and steep hill and all. Both times in town we found taxi driver's "pawning" us off to other drivers because they personally did not want to take us there. I had mistakenly thought this place was close enough to walk to town. It's not.

However, a huge positive for us was our dinner here. Not only is the dining room situated in a wonderful vantage point of the port, the food was both reasonably priced and very good. This offset many of the disappointments that we were feeling for sure. Also, they have a great system for the guests to help themselves with snacks and all sorts of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) with an honor system where you pay as you check out. Breakfast is included, with breads, some fruit, juice and coffee. It was pretty basic, but what was provided was good.

I suppose that if we had been given a different room we may be inclined to give the hotel a higher mark than we did, but we weren't and this is how we saw it. I am sure that you can do much much worse in St Thomas, so I wouldn't suggest avoiding this place....but I doubt that we'll stay here again even though we'd certainly reserve AT LEAST one night to have dinner here.

Room Tip: try to stay in the main part of the resort

This was our 2nd time staying at Island View Guesthouse and we look forward to returning for a longer stay.
The service, view and food are Exceptional. We ate the best steak dinner with a view that makes you think you've died and gone to heaven. It's so comfortable on their veranda to read, listen to music, mix a drink or just chill.
It's so important to have great hosts like they are in case of an emergency. My husband who is normally very conscientious forgot his cpap at the car rental and we were unable to reach them. Beth called and drove to pick it up for us and then delivered it to the airport since time was of the essence. I think Beth and Ron could handle Any situation that came up.
Comfortable and casual accomodation with excellent hosts.

We spent just one relaxing night here, before a sailing charter, but enough to want to come back. Very quiet (except for the roosters) place, with comfortable, though not necessarily luxurious accomodations. Beth & Ron were great, and very helpful in getting us situated. Dinner at the Guesthouse was absolutely a highlight.

If you are looking for a place to chill your souls this IS the place. We found it after much research and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. Ron, Beth and the staff are so much fun. They pointed us to places where they knew we would have great experiences and they were completely correct every time. They provided beach towels and chairs (FREE) and this saved us some money each day and was greatly appreciated. The Thurs-Fri-Sat- night steak/shrimp feast was probably the best meal we ate the entire week. The rooms were large, clean, views to die for and the bathrooms are renovated and perfect. The bed we slept on had a much more comfortable mattress that the one we have at home.
We will FOR SURE be back and would recommend the Island View to all of our friends and family. BOOK IT NOW, you will not be disappointed!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you book a balcony room. It is more than worth the small extra cost per night.

This was a great (seven night) choice for us, casual, nice people, pretty rooms with a view that's incredable, comfortable bed, simple breakfasts on the veranda. We hung around much too long when we could have been playing tourist. It was just relaxing which is I suppose why we came to St. Thomas. Our room also had a kitchenette which we utilized mostly to store beer and wine and two nights when we had restaurant "from". They also cook up steaks, chicken and stuff on Thursday through Saturday if you make a reservation. Thanks again Ron and Beth for a nice stay. Everybody else has used all the pertainent comments and we found them accurate.

Room Tip: They have a dog "Marley" whose nice and those other fury things
