“Garden of Eden”

My husband and I recently stayed at the Green Iguana with friends for a couple days before our sailing charter out of Tortola. We couldn't have asked for more gracious hosts! Gwen and John went out of their way to make us feel welcome at their hotel. It didn't take long to feel like we had known them for a long time. The rooms were clean and comfortable - ours had a balcony that gave us a spectacular view of Charlotte Amalie. My favorite area was the beautiful garden they have nurtured between the two buildings. The wicker chairs invited every guest to sit a spell and enjoy the flora and fauna. We would definitely chose to stay at this hotel again! They treated us like family.

Thank you for all your kind comments! Since we live on premises, you technically ARE in our home! We never go "out of our way" for our Guests, everything we do is customary! And we enjoy helping travelers like yourself, enjoy their Caribbean Adventure! We really enjoyed having your group with us! Thank you for inviting us to join you for dinner! That was sweet of you! We enjoyed the company and the great sushi! We hope to see you again soon!

We had a great stay at the Green Iguana Hotel. The service was great and the owners made sure our group had all we needed. They even took a picture of our group and made a post card of it and gave us all a copy. What a momento! The hotel is convenient to walking to downtown. The rooms were very comfortable. Highly recommend!!

Dear Venture Crew! It was great to have you here! We understand the learn to sail is a new program for the Scouts! Perhaps next year they will have an advanced class and you will all be back! It was wonderful to see so many well behaved teenagers all in one place. Thank you for posing for the photo and I was happy to print a copy for each one of your group. Please feel free to come back anytime, as a group or individually for a getaway! Safe Travels!

The rooms were great. I arrived one day early and stayed in a room equiped with a kitchen. Very good location. Walked everywhere. If you don't want to walk, call a cab or take one of the safari buses. I did all three. There was a post office just at the bottom of the hill from The Green Iguana Hotel.
Very secure place to stay.

Room Tip: Good location to downtown, post office, jewelry stores, town square, banks, water taxi, restaurants...

You know, we have had Guests arrive a day early in the winter season to beat a snowstorm heading their way, but you were really anxious to start your Caribbean Adventure! We are so happy to know you enjoyed all the shops and restaurants in Charlotte Amalie, just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. St Thomas has great transportation 24 hours a day, and there is 1 you didn't mention, renting a vehicle! The Green Iguana Hotel has plenty of off street parking for our Guests. We are happy your trip was successful and hope to see you again soon!

Our room was on the upper level, and had a wonderful view of the city. The room was clean, everything worked right, free WiFi, really really comfy bed. On the other hand, it is located on the side of a hill, and there's stairs to go up to the room, or down to street level, or further down to the office. If you have hip or knee problems, this is NOT your place. On the other hand, if you don't mind stairs, this location is handy to the downtown area by going down the "100 Steps" path. Restaurants, shopping only 104 steps away! Next to Bluebeards Castle, in case you want a tour.

Pros: The managers are terrific, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, great view
Cons: stairs, no pool

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view, more steps to room. Dinner at Bluebeards next door was uninspiring.

We are surprised to hear you thought the property had that many stairs! Compared to many hotels and inns on St. Thomas, ours are minimal! 3 Steps to enter the hotel, 6 rooms are ground level, 2 rooms 1 floor walkup and 1 room is 2 levels down. Also we are located next to BLACKBEARD's Castle, a common faux pas by even the locals! Bluebeard's Castle is just to the east of us. Being up on the hill makes the nights quieter than being closer to the waterfront. Since the reopening of the Bar and Grill at Blackbeard's Castle at the beginning of the winter season, many of our Guests choose to enjoy the beaches during the day and the great food and views from the restaurant next door at night!
We do hope you will return soon and visit your Iguana friends for your next Caribbean Adventure!

Green Iguana was a great choice for us. It is on Blackbeard's Hill, at the top of 99 Steps. We exercise a lot, so the walking and climbing was fine. If you don't want to walk, make sure you have a car. John and Gwen are wonderful. They go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. It is a hotel, not a B&B. Not sure why it is listed as b&b. We had a room with a kitchen and there are lots of restaurants within a 10-20 minute walk. Grocery store is about one mile. Ferry to St. John is right at the bottom of the hill, less than 10 minute walk. Ferry takes about 30 minutes. There is also some public transportation service along the waterfront and possibly all the way to Red Hook, and is $1 or $2 depending on where you go. Magen's Bay is maybe 10 minute or less drive. Red Hook is probably 20 minute drive. John and Gwen will give you good advice and call taxis for you. They have a nice garden area with hummingbirds, iguanas, tortoises and more.
Our room had a balcony and a good view of the harbor.

If you don't have a car and can't walk well, you may have some challenges, or you will need a taxi to go everywhere.

Daily room service is very good and reliable.
No pool, but we didn't need a pool.
What we liked most was the personal touch of John and Gwen.
They even had someone waiting for us at the airport, awesome start!

Highly recommend for budget traveler.
We didn't have kids.
We loved our stay. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a kitchen, make sure you can make the trip 1 mile to the grocery store. Res...

Thank for your great comments! We agree for longer stays the rooms with kitchens are great! Don't forget we have a gas grill our Guests are welcome to use as well, no matter if you are in a kitchen room or not. We enjoy the gardens during the day with all the island critters flying and crawling around, and a night for the cool night breezes! Often our Guests will join us for great conversation.
We too have questioned why we are listed on many travel sites as a B&B, we think it's because we have only 9 rooms and that's the category they place us in. "Small Hotels, Inns and B&B"
You had mentioned so much about our convenient location to just about anywhere, what more can we say? Thank you, one hundred times over!

Our group of 8 adults just spent 3 nights at The Green Iguana and were very pleased with it. John and Gwen, the managers, were very friendly and helpful, made good local suggestions about places to go, and keep a very clean property. The location is a plus and a minus -- it is up a hill from town, walkable, but can be hike back up. It is not a beach property. But, it has a terrific view, which some of the rooms take advantage of, and is immediately next to Blackbeard's Castle which has a terrific restaurant -- good good, a very nice outdoor bar, and a commanding view of the bay. Room prices were very fair.

Room Tip: A-1 and A-2 are the top rooms, very cute, with nice views. A-4 is a larger room with full kitchen...

We are happy to hear we were a good choice for you and your group! We apologize the sofa sleeper was not comfortable for you as we have new springs, decking and mattress for it. Plus we use the "egg create" mattress topper along with mattress pads and high quality sheets on all beds.
All 9 of our Guest Rooms face the west, overlooking Charlotte Amalie's Town and Harbor, Frenchtown and Crown Bay Marina, the view will depend upon what level your room is on. A1 and A2 are at ground level, the rooms on top are A5 and A6.
We are happy so many of our Guests are enjoying the newly reopened Bar and Grill at Blackbeard's Castle next door to us. We love the sushi and enjoy it often!

The six of us stayed here prior to returning home from our charter sail trip in the BVI. We reserved the rooms knowing we'd need to stay prior to an early flight back to the states. Gwen is the most helpful innkeeper I've ever come across. A month before our visit I emailed her for restaurant help, wanting to eat at Oceana. She let me know it was the last night of Carnival everything was closed that night. Her husband, John, literally called every place in town to see what was open, finding us the Island View Guesthouse Restaurant and Warren Gonzalez’s taxi service to get us there and back(very reliable). We had a GREAT meal, but it wouldn't have happened without Gwen and John. Next, I mistakenly packed one of the inn's pillows at 5 in the AM instead of mine, When I returned home, she had John mail me my pillow back and I returned hers......that's REAL customer service. BTW the rooms and the inn were clean and spacious and very comfortable. Thank you again Gwen and John.

You guys were great! During our island's Carnival Celebration, it CAN be challenging to move around the waterfront in a vehicle, walking is the best! AND during the last day we do have the Adult Parade, which is very similar to the Rio De Janerio Parade with the stilt walkers and the elaborate costumes, and of course the great Caribbean Steel Drum Bands and the food! Oh the food! We do have a great relationship with Warren G's Taxi, and were happy to ask him to take you to a restaurant we enjoy ourselves! It was my pleasure to return your trusty pillow to you! Anytime a Guest leaves behind something valuable, we will do what it takes to return it to you! Those early morning flights are tough!
Please feel free to come back as often as possible! We enjoyed having you!
