“Wonderful family vacation”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

Loved everything about the cove. They had activities for my children who are 11 and 13. Also there are many adventures as well that you can pay for. We loved the turtle bay snorkeling tour on the Cat and the nigh time kayak adventures. They both were excellent and run by great staff. Going down town was worth driving on the wrong side of the road. I recommend renting a car. Many great things to do on the island. Whole Pie is a must for the best pizza on the island but make reseverations. The Marriott was clean and staff helpful and friendly. We enjoyed booking our condo through Vacation Candy. We received a nice care package prior to leaving on our vacation from Vacation Candy. It was such a nice surprise and we used everything on our trip. They were very helpful with any questions we had regarding our trip. I would love to return to the Frenchman's Cove again.

Nice property, clean simple room with king size bed and view of the ocean. Only problem was the time share sales folks that made me crazy!!! Food was good and location was great! Service staff were very nice. We definitely will stay here again but will steer clear of the sales people. Colossal waste of time for $100.00 gift.

We spent five nights at the Marriott Frenchman's Cove - this is the Marriott Vacation Club timeshare facility adjacent to the larger Marriott Frenchman's Reef hotel. You get some privileges at the hotel - but not (surprisingly) room charge at the restaurants (remember a credit card when you visit the hotel pool's swim up bar). Hotel guests get free use of the snorkel equipment and boogie boards at the beach, but Cove guests pay $10 for each. The little shack on Morningstar Beach near the hotel accepts only cash - but typical of the laid-back attitude on the island, when I said I had only a credit card, he just shrugged and gave me the snorkel gear and boogie board for free. We enjoyed dinner at Havana Blue (despite the overly loud thump-thump music) and lunch at Coco Joe's on the beach. Overall, we preferred the more limited facilities at the Cove since they were less crowded and more accessible to our very comfortable, 2 BR condo. There is a small grocery but choice is limited (they had only a scary SPAM-like processed ham, for $6 for a small package) and prices are high. Pueblo or the Fruitbowl in town is a good place to shop for food - although it will be a $10-$15 taxi ride round-trip.

We used Ali & Son's as our main taxi service - he would arrange to pick us up to take us to dinner in Frenchtown or the hills, typically for $6-$12 per person depending on distance. We would text him to pick us up to take us home. He's very knowledgeable about the island, having grown up there, and very personable. Highly recommended - abeer_rachid at yahoo dot com or text him at 340-642-5799.

It's been about 4 years since we stayed at the Cove. Since then, they have added an additional building and what used to be a quiet, laid-back resort is now - for my taste - overbuilt and overcrowded. Too bad Marriott goes in this direction and I hope they rethink any further buildout! The beach has lounge chairs literally side-by-side for three rows (and it's a small beach) - and get there before 10am if you want a chair! Same for the pool. For those who like quiet and listening to the sounds of surf and nature, I found that the beach before 11 am and after sunset was best. Alas, because of all the bustle, the iguanas are all but gone - we used to enjoy them. I wasn't expecting a busy, bustling, constant music-playing kind of vacation so this was a surprise and took some adjusting to.
For those who like people all around, music every night, and general busyness - then, it is still a great place. We ended up having a nice time...just not the vacation we expected.
That said, here are some tips we found helpful:

Food is very expensive on island. We make and freeze a bunch of simple main dishes (meat sauce, meat loaf, etc) and pack dry soup mixes. Then all we need to buy are some staples. and, yes, our stuff was still frozen upon arrival.

Do you grocery shopping at Gourmet Gallery in the Havensight Mall. We have the taxi stop there on the way from the airport to the Cove to avoid an extra trip. That way, we arrive with all our luggage and food - ready to unpack and hit the beach! If you mention the Marriott they will take 5% off your bill.

We brought our own snorkel equipment - rental is $15 per day. Cheaper to buy gear at Costco! The rocks to the right of the Cove's beach have some nice fish and we even followed a large turtle.

Happy hour 2 for 1 drinks - love the Bushwacker!

They have also added aqua aerobics and beach yoga - very nice additions!! Thanks!
Good fitness center with a great view!

A great feature about this property is that you can use the Marriott Hotel facilities next door - by all means visit. Just walking the gorgeous property and its spectacular views is wonderful! There is a free shuttle to take you there. A beer at Coco Joe's on their beach is a must!

The Star Ferry that leaves from the Cove dock is THE way to get to Charlotte Amalie - a great little trip and not much more than a taxi.

Request an upper floor room. Valets were super helpful and you can even catch a ride up to the lobby if you need one.

Enjoy your trip!

Great way to cap off the vacation at Frenchmans Cove. Night kayaking with Chris and Suki was a thrill. The built in LED lights allowed us to see turtles, sting rays, and giant tarpon right underneath our kayak's plexiglass floor. One tarpon even jumped over the front of the kayak! Thanks for the memorable experience, Marriot and Adventure Center. We will be back.

This was our 4th trip to the Cove. Disclaimer we are Marriott points owners and this is our home resort. This was our first time in Building 1 and had an end room on the 3rd floor. All the villas have 2 or 3 bedrooms and a kitchen, balcony and living area. We have shared our villa in the last three visits but were alone on this trip. We spend the whole week in the resort. Used the fitness center and watched the cruise ships come in, walked the hills and got our heart rate up and relaxed. We buy our food at a local market and use the grills outside to prepare dinner. This is a family resort with activities for the kids (the pool slide is in use all day long), a nice beach area and a large pool with lots of lounges available.

Room Tip: You don't have much say in your villa but you will be asked by management a few weeks before. H...

Stayed here as part of our timeshare. We were on 4th floor of the St John building. It had a great view and the room was in perfect condition. We took advantage of cooking in the unit and the kitchen had all the supplies one would need. View from the balcony was beautiful. We also used the grills on the grounds 3 or 4 times. They were in great condition. Nice walk to the adjacent Reef and Morningstar hotels or take the shuttle. They staff was awesome here. Everyone was very gracious and helpful. There was not a need or question that was not satisfied. Special shout out to Darren in the lobby("alright, alright") and Larry the night time shuttle driver(thanks for putting up with my Colt's fan friend). These two guys were especially hospitable. The restaurants at Morningstar were great, the Reef good, not great. The Cove's restaurant had good service, but food was just average.

Pool and beach was nice. Unlike other Marriott's I have been to, you do not have to get up at 6 AM to rush down to get your pool chair for the day. There were always some available. I despise chair holding.

We will definitely return to the Cove.

Room Tip: Pick a high floor in any building.
