“Magens Bay is beautiful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2010

Been there a few times over the years and the key is to go when very few cruise ships are in. We went a couple times when there were 5 or more ships in and it was crowded and uncomfortable. The last time we were there we went when there were no ships in and it was awesome. Pretty much had the beach to ourselves. You really apreciate the beauty a lot more without someone sitting on top of your feet.

“Beautiful Beach but crowded mid-day.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2010

I visited Magen's Bay on a cruise in July. It was an $8 cab ride each way from the port to the beach. Beach admission is $4. The beach is about 1 mile long. Get to the beach early to get a good spot and a picnic table. Beach became very crowded by 12pm. Water is clear and if you bring a snorkel you can see some fish by the rocks. Beach does offer bathrooms, water sports (kayaking and paddle boats), and has a snack bar. Good for families.

“Truly deserves to be a Top Ten Beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2010

After reading varied reviews about Magens Bay Beach, we weren't sure what we'd find when we visited during an island tour of St. Thomas (part of our Freedom of the Seas cruise). What we found was a bit of tropical paradise!

We had spent a day on Royal Caribbean's private island, Coco Cay, a couple of days earlier. Its beach was fun but VERY rocky and difficult to even walk without hurting your feet. But when we arrived at Magens Bay, we found a gorgeous, white sand beach that was so smooth it almost felt like carpet under our feet, both on shore and under the water. The water was so calm, clear, and blue in this cove of the island that we never wanted to leave! There are no big waves, so you can just float around effortlessly as you view the beautiful setting all around you. By local law, there is almost no building development around this beach, so it truly feels like paradise.

We've heard this beach can get crowded when several ships are in port, but we came in the early afternoon, so we probably missed much of the early crowd that clamors here right off the ships. We recommend coming a bit later in the day, as we did, to avoid the most crowded times. There's not much in the way of food & drink - just a snack bar for burgers, pizza, coke, and beer. It's not fancy, is a bit expensive, but has a certain Margaritaville charm that doesn't seem too touristy. You can rent beach chairs and loungers, but the sand and water are so nice you'll probably just need your towel to be comfortable.

We highly recommend Magens Bay Beach if you're visiting St. Thomas, and we only wish we had more time to spend there!

“Tourist trap - but pretty”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2010

Although lovely views and clear water - this is definitely the beach that the locals SEND the tourists too. There's a charge to get onto the beach. Its a very narrow beach, although a decent length. I'd recommend going to Sapphire or Coki. Not as many tourists and no charge to 'use' the beach although you will have a pricier taxi ride. If you do wind up going to Megan's, rent a paddle boat. Its quite relaxing being able to get away from the beach goers and check out the surrounding landscape.

“Meghans Bay - beach was just okay.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2010

Can't understand the hubbub about Meghans Bay....Many picturesques scenic views coming and going from there. Water was very nice...no waves to mention. Beach itself was just okay. I would not call it a top 10 though. One a sunny day, the surrounding hillsides are georgeous to see.
