“Our Winter Vacation”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

We spent 4 weeks at Magens Point resort with 10 of our family visiting us at different times. There were some issues but we have been coming there for 16 years & have never experienced utility problems like this & I am sure we never will again. The staff was amazing & so accommodating especially Lori, Viola, Wanda, Evan, Kevin & Meredith. I know they don't ever want to experience this again they went over & beyond. We are owners & was so pleased with the grounds, restaurant, bar, & workout gym. Our family is already talking about next year & there will be more of us enjoying this quaint little resort overlooking the famous Magens Bay. It's our home away from home!!!!

Just got back from our stay 2/1 to 2/6.Power is a huge problem it was out during most of the super bowl And off and on during our entire stay.Very dark and hard to see walking around at nightand no a/c was not comfortable, staff was great but ownership doesn't seem to care. Would not return unless power issue fixed.

The room was nice, the view was nice, the staff was nice. The maid service was good. The food at the Italian restaurant was good. The biggest problem was the utilities from day one until the end. There were no phones throughout the stay except the first night. The DVD player had to be replaced. The safe didn't work as it was supposed to so we were able to get a master key to work it. Showers were never hot. Lucky if we had warm water. The entire building was run by a generator at all times. At least half of the time the generator was out. It got so bad that the staff had someone stay all night to get it back on when it would go out every 30 minutes because sleeping without fans or AC was unbearable. It was also horrible to wake up in the dark and get ready for an excursion without lights or coffee or candles or flashlights. Most times we were without electricity, we were at least having water. The last day, we didn't have working water but we did have electricity. We tried to be easy going about the whole thing but it gets very old after a few days of it on vacation when you can't rely on anything to even watch a TV program or have a shower or coffee in the morning. Super Bowl Sunday was a disaster island-wide as the entire island was without power during the first part of it. We just gave up trying to watch at all as it wasn't even on the TV in our room even if they had that channel.

The staff was extremely apologetic and very nice considering the circumstances.
I would not recommend this resort if you want to have any kind of reliable utilities with your vacation.

Stuff happens and what makes the difference is how you handle the stuff. Power outage off and on for 48 hrs. Staff worked diligently to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. This is my 5th time to Magens Point and for me the most memoriable and enjoyable. My compliments and a Huge thankyou for Lori, Wanda, Kevin, Meredith, Evan, Viola, and Shelby. You definitely made lemonaide out of lemons. Katie and I had a wonderful trip, thank you and see you next year if not sooner.

We had a great time at Megens Point due to the Member Services rep, Meredith Durr. She greeted us upon arrival, helped us take our cases to our room and filled us in on all the activities available on the island. The hotel itself was not as bright a spot. In the first room we had the TV didn't work so we then had to carry our cases up 2 flights of stairs (there are no elevators). There were several things not working in the new condo. We reminded the staff several times but at the end of our week none were fixed. On the positive side the restaurant was fantastic. Food was delicious, staff attentive and efficient and the ambiance was lovely. The resort is close to Megen's Bay which was why we had selected it. You really need a car as the location is a long way from everything else. Don't be intimidated of driving on the other side of the road. Go slowly and you will catch on quickly. St. Thomas is a wonderful place to visit.

Ok, I should mention that we are cat people. My daughter was absolutely delighted at the friendly, sleek-furred, well-socialized cats that came to the call of "kitty kitty kitty". One even "cat"apulted himself across a couple of low brick walls to run to us (apparently expecting food and petting, which we happily gave him!) Why am I focusing on this? Because this single feature made my child happy, and everyone knows that a happy child makes for a happy vacation!! The hotel rooms were beautiful! What a view to wake up to! Nicely appointed. The a/c was so quiet that I almost didn't even hear it, and it worked like a charm. Rooms were very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful (thanks for the late checkout!). Pools looked clean and beautifully inviting, but we didn't have a chance to try them. 15 min walk downhill to incomparable Magen's bay. (GORGEOUS!!) but husband complained that it wasn't very safe without sidewalks and crazy cab drivers rounding the curves too fast. I'd probably cab it, even downhill, and we DID cab it uphill! But the absolute BEST part of our stay was "Simply Italian" the on site restaurant. OMG one of the best restaurants I have EVER eaten at!! (And I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in Chicago!)
Cafe was adequate with yummy bagels for the morning! Overall, just an amazing stay. Thanks!!!

The folks at Magen's Point make the modest accommodations more pleasant. They are super friendly and help with all that they can. They do have a great little bar and grill and a fabulous Italian restaurant. The activity Director, Meredith, was very helpful in many ways.
The highlight of our trip was the all-day snorkeling tour on the 65 ft catamaran that Meredith set us up on. The crew was great, the food was good, the Pain-killer drinks were our first introduction to the island rum "Cruzan".. and good. She also took a bunch of us up to the Blue Orchid Restaurant on our last night there and it was spectacular. Food was great and the view was breathtaking. Go for the triple chocolate bread pudding with the bushwhacker sauce... decadent.. best bread pudding ever. Had heard bad things about the room air conditioning units but we found them to be excellent, even got too cold a couple of nights. Bathroom was very small and room decor was somewhat dated. Good view of Megan's Bay from our room..with slight obstruction of poles. Don't go to Magen's Point if you really have to have modern rooms with all the conveniences. They are not quite there yet.. but looks like they are doing some updating.
