Winchfawr Lodges

Four of us booked in for the weekend and used it as a base for two days' mountain biking at the nearby Bike Park Wales. The quality and location of the lodge was excellent and the owners were very helpful.

We had a bbq on the Saturday night using the patio area, which is spacious and has great views across the valley to the mountains beyond.

All in all an ideal place to stay for a few nights while enjoying the nearby trails.

We recently stayed at the Winchfawr Lodges and chose here as a base for the Heineken Cup Final in Cardiff. The Lodges were superbly finished, well presented and had all amenities you require for a s/c weekend. Standard features included fully equipped kitchen / free wifi / TV / DVD / towels etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and Nigel's hospitality was fantastic. He even kindly dropped us to the train station one day. We would highly recommend these lodges to anybody looking for a base outside Cardiff City or if you are looking to explore the Brecon Beacons. Finally the view from the lodges over the local town and valleys is fab

My wife and I and our 2 children stayed at Winchfawr Lodge for 3 nights in May 2014. I am a local man and needed accommodation for my family as we visited my home town and relatives. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the accommodation. The Lodge we stayed in was perfect for the needs of a small family. The accommodation is clean, modern and contemporary and fitted with everything you could need for a few days self catering.

The BBQ and children's play area are excellent facilities and the chicken coop provided great entertainment for our 2 little girls. The lodge is situated high up on the side of the valley and the outlook and views over Merthyr are great with the stunning backdrop of the nearby Brecon Beacons. The owners Nigel and Gaynor are lovely, friendly and approachable people and they will do everything they can to ensure that you enjoy your stay.

I can honestly say that we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and that the quality of the accommodation and facilities make it great value for money and a much better option than any hotel in the area. I am delighted to have found Winchfawr Lodge and look forward to staying there again in the future.

This is a great place to stay. Beautifully sited just outside the town, immaculately presented accommodation with lots of space. We were four adults visiting for the rugby in Cardiff, and the local train helped us avoid any crowds.

Just north is the beauty of the Brecon Beacons.

Would be delighted to stay here again.

This may sound OTT but this is the best thought through accommodation I have stayed in. The lodge is immaculate - warm & clean throughout - Central heated controlled in your lodge, big TV, free wifi, great kitchen, fully equipped with everything you need.
Nigel the proprietor was so relaxed and immediately puts you in holiday mode, you couldn't wish for more friendly experience when you arrive. We will be using this accommodation regularly.

We were mountain biking in the area (Bike Park Wales) so wanted self-catering accommodation close to the trails. Nigel the landlord was very friendly and the bike facilities - secure lock up, bike wash, CCTV - were excellent.

The accommodation was presented immaculately with a well fitted out kitchen, large bathroom and even washing and drying facilities downstairs. It was very peaceful on the edge of town in the hills, with outdoor patio areas and BBQ and far-reaching views that we couldn't see because of the low cloud.

Wi-fi coverage was a bit too slow to be of practical use, but that may have been a temporary problem whilst we were there and a very minor downside to this superb accommodation. Recommended.

Excellent clean, modern, well equipped self catering lodges. Ideally located for Bike Park Wales with good storage & wash facilities for bikes. It would also make a good base for visiting the Brecon Beacons. There are two large retail and entertainment parks close by with all the major stores, restaurants, cinema etc. The only criticism was the tiny sink in the bathroom.
