Spent 2 nights at this campsite, and found it to be one of the best sites in the area, plus it was only 10mins away from Merthyr Tydfil.

The wash room facilities were split between 2 old permanent toilets and a portacabin block, with 2 showers. I found the facilities adequate for my needs.

The campsite was actually across a small access road, and the section we were camped in was flat with parking for cars. It looked as if there was further camping fields further down the hill, which would have been near a stream, which I suspect would have been full of miggies.

The campsite was surprisingly quiet at night, given the fact that several DofE groups were staying there.

In summary, a basic campsite with lots of character.

I stayed here with my sister for 2 nights when we went to the nearby Green Man Festival.

The camp site gets very dark at night and so a torch or headtorch is essential.

We thought the power showers were great, they stayed hot throughout our stay but we felt that the showers and toilet areas could have been cleaner.

Also, there were a lot of midges about when we were there so it's worth taking insect repellent.

The camp site is in a beautiful location and very quiet and so we both had a good night's sleep.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and probably would stay here again if we ever come back to the area.

Very basic site with minimal facilities. A little upgrading and improvements would make it a nicer place. The cost was a little too much in comparison to much nicer sites we stayed at during our week touring.

Friendly welcome which goes a long way and nice setting if you ignore roast noise (noticeable but not terrible). But, desperately needs some upgrading. 2 showers and loos in converted storage containers are functional but rather grubby. Water was hot.
Field for campervans and caravans needed grass (if you can call it that) cutting. Pitches not level.
With just a little bit of effort could be so lovely.
Oh, and there were midges but not too bad where we were.
Wouldn't go again, would struggle to recommend, but just about ok for 1 night.

Myself and friends have just got back from a 2 night stay here at the Grawen Camping Site.
The price per person is £8 per night which is good value if i'm honest, and we were greeted very well upon arrival after a very long journey down from the Midlands in horrendous traffic.
We pitched up just over the road from the main shower block and reception and upon arrival ( Friday night ) it was quite quiet....until later on that is ( but this is no fault of the campsite, just rude people! )
We used the showers and as it was quite quiet they were just what you needed, very hot and clean, but basic as mentioned.
Saturday morning and night was a different story as the site became busy, long waits at times for toilets and showers and obviously " some " people aren't as clean as others ( would be the polite way of putting it ) but again this is not the campsite's fault.

Lovely view waking up in the morning and seeing the hills, grass area's all well maintained, no rubbish around etc.

As people have mentioned, there are THOUSANDS of midges etc about in the early evening so please bear this in mind and take the appropriate precautions with repellents etc.

Location was fantastic for us as we were visiting BPW and Brecon Beacons so we couldn't have asked for more.

We did pop into Merthry at night which was, let me say, an " experience "

Would I return to this site if in the area again? MOST definitely as the location is perfect if you want a cheap getaway with plenty to do nearby!!

Room tip: Don't go down by the stream you will be bitten alive!
