“Set in quite stunning scenery.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

Spent two nights here and have to day it is set in quite stunning scenery. The Brecon Beacons National Park was a very short drive away (or if you've the time a lovely walk away). The hotel itself looks lovely with very friendly capable staff. The however over rides everything it was absolutely out of this world.

We spent 2 nights at this fantastic lodge in the Brecon Beacons. On our arrival we were given a room that did not have a bath. This was quickly change with no fuss and a little price difference to a suite which was just what was required.
The reception team were very good and knowledgable.
The evening meal was superb so much so we ate there for the second night as well which we didn't plan to do. All three courses on both our meals were excellent. Our starters did seem to get lost in transit and to the horror of the owner they arrived very quickly. Unfortunately it happened again on the second evening. No need to concern anyone with a complaint as the food was great.
The breakfast was one of the best I have eaten for a long time excellent fresh fruit salad. WELL the CHEFS. No real need for a cooked breakfast here which after a hearty evening meal was probably a good thing.
We both had spa treatments and my wife's seemed to end about 10 mins short of the purchased time. A 15 minute refund was given but this really missed the point.
All in Ll A great place to spend a couple of days

Room Tip: Suites on the top floor are great

As a return visitor - am never disappointed by the Nant Ddu. Great location, food and swimming pool! Only slight criticism is that they need to update the wine list. However, the food is always really good - especially the steak!

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room!

This venue is sold as a high end hotel / spa with a history of good reviews. We found the 3 star rating to be somewhat of a push given the poor hygiene (particularly of the spa areas where the pool had not been cleaned in some time with a lot of hairs, plasters and dead flies floating on the surface and of the eating area where flies sat on a lot of the open bread and spilt crumbs where visible in the same location for 3 days). Furthermore the spa facilities were limited (although we did not attend for the use of these) and staff in the spa area where often not available and rude.

Food is perhaps my biggest complaint here. We originally planned to eat at the venue for all nights as we knew we would be tired from a days hiking and climbing but ended up eating there just one night. Food was expensive given the small portions, service was slow and food was terrible. All dishes seemed to be frozen ready meals somewhere reminiscent of Iceland with reports of no changes in the menu for 7 years. I ordered the cajun chicken was cheap boiled plain chicken with a tomato sauce of the top (very sour and lacking any other flavour) and the accompanying sauces were still frozen.

The difficulty arises because there is a dearth of places to stay in the region and therefore it seems standards have dropped. I might stay at the venue again for this reason only, but would certainly not use the spa facilities or eat at the restaurant again.

I would not recommend this venue, especially if you are able to find something else that is available, it is certainly not worth the cost.

Found this hotel quite by chance. We will definitely return. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Spa facilities are very good. Food was excellent. Only point we would say is you have to pay extra for cooked breakfast but the buffet has lots of variety.

Hi stayed here for a night the staff were chatty and friendly, spa was well maintained, rooms were clean and comfortable, but bathrooms were a bit dated but fit for purpose.
Food was really good with a lot of choice, would stay again.

We've been coming to Nant Dhu to eat on and off over the years because of family connections in the area. The food has always been faultless and the service excellent. This visit was no exception.
Try the Welsh lamb, absolutely delicious.
We have only stayed in the hotel once, but it was a memorable stay, really luxurious.
