“Caneel Bay is crap”

Caneel Beach Terrace
Ranked #73 of 118 Restaurants in St. John
Restaurant details
Reviewed 8 August 2013

Our family has been vacationing in St John for years and have always enjoyed spending the day on the public beaches at Caneel and having lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants. Unfortunately over the past two years the management at Caneel Bay has instituted new restrictions aimed at keeping people who aren't staying at the resort away. In addition to imposing a $20 parking fee, they ow prohibit chairs, umbrellas, and coolers from the beach. So enjoy the beach on your towel. It's a shame, it makes St John as a whole less appealing as this is one f the best beaches on the island with very nice locations to enjoy food and drink. But it's obvious the management is not interested sharing the public beach with the public. OCCUPY CANEEL!!

The service was not good at all. The waitress never came back to our table after we ordered our meal and we sat there for over 40 minutes with nothing to drink. The food was ok but absolutely not worth the money. There are so many other better restaurants on the island that actually want your business.

this place exudes style and class. the buffet is terrific and the atmosphere is breathtaking. my wife and i had the breakfast and is was delicious. it may be a little bit more than some are willing to part with for breakfast at $31 per person but it is worth it.

We decided to do the Monday night buffet after reading several comments about the great lobster. Although we enjoyed the food, there was no lobster and little seafood other than appetizers. The main courses were duck, lamb chops, steak, and cooked to order pasta. The price was lower, $60pp rather than $85. We would have tried to get lobster in town during our stay had we known.

The food was really expensive. You can find much better meals in town for a lot less. Add to that, the service was just mediocre. We won't be going back.
