“Cozy, Quiet, Wonderful Host = Treetops”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 via mobile

If you like B and B's just stop reading and book it, this it. Oh still reading let me tell you why. One truly is a quiet place, where all you hear is the wonderful sounds of nature. Two it's only 10 mins from town but you feels like your in a remote jungle. Three rooms are nice and cozy, and only lack of a TV, which I think was a nice break. Four Karen the host, is just a wonder person who goes out of her way to try and make your stay the best ever. But if you where looking of an ocean view and cellphone service keep looking. There is wifi ;) Five price, compared to the ocean view places, it's good and the room is now why you come to St. John it's the beaches.

Just got home from staying at Treetops in St John. Karen and Hank are great hosts and made me feel right at home. Great conversations at breakfast with excellent tour guide information. Quiet evenings after great snorkeling with turtles, sightseeing and sunsets at Beach Bar in Cruz Bay.

We have stayed at Treetops 3 times, all of them amazing.
Karen and Hank have become great friends thru our daily moring coffee conversations. Their tips and suggestions are always helpful and snorkeling off Potluck with Hank lets you see areas not accessible by car.

We planned our trip around the availability of the first mate quarters so we could stay at Treetops. A must do on anytrip to St John.

Room Tip: Captin's quarters has AC and an outdoor shower, the bunkhouse is small but cozy, the first mate...

I can't even think of where to start! We stayed 7 days here and 2 days at a condo on St Thomas and wished SO badly that we could have just stayed at Treetops.

Every single thing was enjoyable... the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was great every morning and every single morning I woke up to chirping birds and wildlife!

We stayed in the Captains Quarters and the Bunkhouse and both were awesome! Adorably decorated and comfortable with everything we needed. Captain's has a microwave and a lot more room with a couch and a table and chairs, also has an awesome outdoor shower! Bunkhouse is a snuggly little spot with an awesome comfy bed!

Adam and I got married while we were staying there and Karen and Hank were the absolute sweetest! We even were lucky enough to get the famous grand tour on Pot Luck 2 of all Hank's secret snorkeling spots. Absolutely breathtaking. They also recommended awesome places to eat and great trails to hike.

By the time we left we felt like we were family!! Also while we were there another couple came that had been there 3 times already (gotta be a good sign right?). Those two were awesome to have coffee with every morning along with Hank and Karen.

I could gush on and on about how beautiful their location was and how awesome the outdoor shower was (seriously amazing experience if you are lucky enough to try it in the rain!) but all I am really gonna say is that if you have made it to this page just make the jump and stay here.

We will ABSOLUTELY be back and will never stay in another spot in the VI!

Thank you guys so much for making this truly the best week of my life!

Room Tip: Captains Quarters has an outdoor shower, microwave and 2 AC units so you will never get hot. Take...

My new Wife and I stayed at Treetops back in January. Everything about Treetops is perfect, Captain Hank is the most accomodating and helpful host. His knowledge and insight of the island is second to none, and if you have time, definitely ask about going out on his boat "Potluck". We spent an entire day on the water snorkeling, and relaxing in the sun, this was definitely a highlight of our trip. Breakfast in the morning is very tasty, and allows you to meet the other guests staying at Treetops, as well as a chance to talk with Hank and decide what to do with your day.

We stayed in the first mate's quarters and it couldn't have been nicer. The room is spacious and has an awesome deck over the trees. One of the best features of the room is how open it is, the screens not only keep it cool, but also let the sound of the treefrogs in at night.

In the End Treetops is great. We will certainly be back, and recommend it to anyone visiting St. John.

P.S. Hank, sorry this took so long for us write.

If you're looking for a low key, non-resort but comfortable option on St John, If you want to focus less on the boozy little downtown and more on the National Park and the natural beauty of this island, look no further, Treetops is great choice. Hank is a great host (Karen was out of town), has lots of good insight into St John, not the mundane stuff (where to go, where to eat) but the pulse of the island. We talked about SJ history, ecology, climate, culture, among other things. Morning coffee in the tropical setting, followed by a friendly and slow continental breakfast, perfect start to each day. Hank also knows how to get out of the way and let you have your own experience. If he has time take a private snorkeling trip on Hank's boat.

As others have said, a Jeep is a must on St John, and certainly for Treetops. A place closer to one of the towns (Cruz Bay or Coral Bay) would allow for less reliance on the Jeep, but its one of those trade-offs - to be out in the peace and quiet of Fish Bay, you have to accept frequent trips in the Jeep. Anyway, you need one to explore the fantastic beaches and other natural areas on the island.

Most importantly, get into an Island state of mind as soon as you can after arrival, learn about the place and the people, and you won't soon forget your St John trip. I know we wont.

My hubby & just spent 5 nights at Treetops in the Captain's Quarters. It was delightful. The room was everything we needed. The bed was comfortable. The outdoor shower had great water pressure & plenty of hot water. The natural setting was beautiful, secluded, & private. Breakfast each morning was great--warm delicious muffins or breakfast bread, yogurt, boiled egg, fresh fruit, & French pressed coffee. While you enjoy your coffee, you watch beautiful tropical birds feed on honey water. The ones we saw had yellow chests. Hank was a superb host with great tips. The last day he even vacuum the sand out of our jeep so we would not get charged additional cleaning fees. We will stay there again & highly recommend it!

Room Tip: The captains quarter had a fridge, microwave, & AC though we did need the AC.
