Food was just ok for the price. Our son ordered a steak med rare and it came out charred. Drinks were not the best on the island.

Virgin Fire is owned and run by the same people who run the Sun Dog Cafe. Don't let that fool you. These guys know how to do restaurants. The atmosphere is incredible. They have tables you can sit out over the street and enjoy the outdoors. Inside they have a great happy hour with super prices on wine and small plates. I suggest the Apothic Red.

Dinner is a little spendy but well worth it, especially the deserts. We had the flourless chocolate torte. Oh my - it's great.

The service is really good too. The servers are friendly and will actually engage in conversation.

We had our celebration meal here and were glad of it. Highly recommend this place.

Thanks, OG, for the very positive review-- we really do appreciate it and glad you enjoyed. Just wanted to note that Sun Dog Cafe is a New York Times Travel & Leisure Pick for St. John, and rated very highly here, for good reason. 17 years of practice helps in getting it right.

In creating Virgin Fire, we take a similar approach to the details, but it's a much larger facility with room to grow. The Sun Dog Cafe has a great casual vibe, perfect for a low key meal and this contrasts well with Virgin Fire which I would describe as kind of an upscale casual dining experience. We are trying to avoid the trappings of a "fine dining" restaurant, and seek to be more of a dinner house.

Thanks again, and really glad to hear you had a good time.

We grabbed dinner in here one night during our stay because it received great reviews online. I was mildly disappointed...the food was pricey (like everywhere else) but it wasn't that great. The service wasn't that great either...I received the wrong meal (ordered crab slider and received hamburger) but it took so long to get our food that I just ate the burger. My kids loved the big screen tv though because they were able to finish watching the World Cup game that was underway when we left our villa, so at least they were happy.

Thanks for the review, although we wish we had done better for you. This is the second comment here on the sliders. While they can be good, I think it best that we take them off the menu and replace them with items that we can produce more consistently. And we will work the the staff on the importance of fixing any error in a timely fashion.

We do have a movie theatre screen in the restaurant, which we use for special events like the World Cup, glad you enjoyed that aspect of the experience.

Providing a value is difficult on St. John. Just about everything is imported, and we have the highest utility costs in the world. We do our best to keep costs down in order to provide a value to our guests. The average dinner check per person here is about $30, but there are less expensive items on the menu.

We appreciate the feedback, it helps us to grow.

Thanks

Server John R from Texas and Bartender Casey from San Fran were amazing BUT those tamarind BBQ ribs rivaled anything I've had in St Thomas or my 3 years in the islands!!! Top it off with great music and friendly staff=Amazing!!!

Server was great. Food was average. We had ribs, pork chop, kid had sliders. More specifics: ribs were good, slaw with ribs awesome, fries were good. Sliders were "ok". Chop was ok, cheese/potato was awesome.

Really - kinda surprised. We pretty much love the sundog meals (same owner?). For half the cost we had twice the meal at sun dog taste-wise. Further comparison: beach bar also has some awesome meals , again for much less cash. Portions sizes are on the largish side at both.

Would not use "disappointed", maybe just failed to hit the value index. We were an early seating, so maybe fine-tuning was still needed
