“Coconut Coast Villas Rocks!”
Reviewed 17 February 2010

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Coconut Coast Villas? I was hesitant about booking a room here because it sounded too good to be true, and I just knew there had to be a catch. How wrong I was. Coconut Coast Villas and Frank and Mickey are superlative! Our studio apartment was perfect in every way. I felt like I was in my own home. The extra touches of a cooler, beach chairs, beach towels, laundry facilities, etc. etc. was very much appreciated. The location is perfect. Short 5-10 minute walk to town, close enough to walk to some very nice beaches, and yet secluded enough that it was nice and quiet in the evenings for sleeping with the windows open to the lull of ocean waves. We had the time of our lives.

We rented a jeep for 3 days, and I would recommend doing so to check out the beaches beyond walking distance. Personally, I was glad we didn't have it for a week as the steep roads made me very nervous about driving.

Frank and Mickey are awesome hosts and great sources of information on what to do, see, where to eat, etc. They made us feel extremely welcomed. Frank even drove us into town to pick up our rental car and offered to take us to the ferry when we left, but we shared a cab with another couple leaving when we were. I can't say enough about their hospitality.

We so thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coconut Coast Villas and St. John in general that we decided on day two we were going back again next year -- but this time for 2 weeks instead of one.

Innkeepers Frank and Mickey stitch a marvelous pattern of visual richness, palpable serenity, confident order and memorable freshness particularly suited to the gracious flow of their beloved island, St. John. As artists, our visual and sensory exploration revealed an inspiring dialogue to which we will return.

Our family of 5 from Colorado had a BLAST! The location is a convenient and pretty walk (on a dirt path along a pond, the bay and an old cemetary) to Cruz Bay. Mickey and husband were very helpful and gracious. The villas are quiet and right on the beach with great views/sounds of the ocean. They were very nice, clean and well equipt with anything you needed. Also a grill out by the pool which we used. There was so much to do with short hikes to different beaches, local shopping, boating and great local bars and restaurants. We didn't even need a car. We came over by ferry, then took a taxi a couple of times. We took our 3 college kids and we all had a great time!!

We spent a WONDERFUL 3 nights at the Coconut Coast Villas around New Year's 2010. The place was perfect for our family of two adults and two teenage daughters. Our two-bedroom unit was clean, airy, and spacious, and the kitchen was well-equipped. Our favorite part was that the unit (like all the units) looks out on Turner Bay --- we loved sitting out on the balcony and watching the boats, and there was nothing like being able to wake up to the sounds of the waves. Our kids enjoyed short spells in the pool and hottub at the end of each day (though this was hardly necessary given all the swimming they had done in the ocean leading up to that).

The location of Coconut Coast was great for us. As others have mentioned, it's a short walk to town for meals or groceries and a 10-20 minute drive to some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world (it's easy to get a cab in town if you don't rent a car).

We also want to do a special shout-out for the hosts --- Frank and Mickey. They are truly an asset to Coconut Coast. Our travel to the island was a 3-day odyssey that involved taking off on 4 different flights heading for St. Thomas, the first 3 of which turned back at some point in the journey (in the last case, aborting the landing seconds before it was supposed to happen). Frank and Mickey were just great about it --- providing encouraging emails as we struggled to get there and then greeting us with warmth, generosity and top-notch treatment once we had arrived. They even found a new rental car for us (we had lost our original reservation because of the delays) and drove us to get it!

The only caveat we have is that to get to town by foot late at night (when the nature trail is closed) you need to go through a small residential neighborhood. It's safe and offers a taste of local color, but could be a surprise for those who expect the Caribbean Islands to look uniformly like postcards.

My boyfriend and I chose Coconut Coast Villas because it was right on the beach and wasn't going to cost us an arm and a leg. Mickey and Frank were absolutely great! We got into St. John a little bit later than what we were supposed to and got lost on the way to the Villas (the Jeep rental place wasn't very helpful with directions). We called the office and Mickey was able to get us there no problems.
The rooms were just what we needed. We weren't looking for anything extravagant but were pretty impressed with what we got! We stayed in Orchid which was a studio; it had a good size little kitchen that fit all our needs. The only problem was the oven didn't work very well (we wanted to make pizza one night but had sandwiches instead). Our favorite part of the room was the balcony. We probably spent most of our time there. The view is worth any shortcomings of the room.
The only other part that we weren't crazy about was the pool area; now granted, you are on St John and there are tons of beautiful beaches to go to, but there were some evenings when we just wanted to stay close and relax at the pool. But again, not something that would keep us from going back.
There is a trail that goes around the salt pond and comes out next to Coconut Coast Studios which is right across from Frank Bay. I would highly recommend this beach as it is only about a 3 minute walk from the villas and it is a really nice area to snorkel and swim! Just up the hill is Gallow's Point and a small little convenience store (Everyting) that is great for getting small little things and some food/drinks for the beach. (Definitely go eat at GP's restaurant ZoZo's. It was delicious!)
Our last day we didn't have a car to take us down to the ferry. Frank was so kind and loaded all our luggage and took us down there himself! Again, Mickey and Frank really did everything to make us incredibly comfortable! When we go back to St John we will definitely be staying at Coconut Coast Villas!!!

We found this location by looking on line and reading reviews. We couldn't have found a better place. Frank and Mickey went out of their way to make us feel at home. They did everything from taking us to pick up our lost luggage to identifying the fish we discovered snorkeling. Our room was very clean and we felt like we had the island to ourselves. The laundry facility came in handy.
On our trip we intended to relax and take things at our own pace. Coconut coast was perfect for that. Everything we needed to make our own meals was included in the kitchen. The area was great for viewing the local wildlife. There were beautiful birds, lizards, and fish right out the back door. As much as we love nature, we were excited not to find any creatures in our room!
We are pretty laid back people but we definitly appreciate good service and comfortable surroundings, we found that here. We are already planning our next trip and wouldn't consider statying anywhere else. Thank you Frank and Mickey for providing such a beautiful and comfortable location!!!

With pelicans, frigate birds and partial sunsets on one side and several species of native birds and other wildlife on the other this quaint villa, set between a bay and an Audubon pond, is a wonderful place to stay. This is one of the few places on the island that is away from the noises of town yet is in walking distance from the center of town.

We stayed for 4 nights in a very clean, roomy 2nd floor studio with a kitchenette, vaulted ceiling and a balcony that faces the bay, and we loved it. And our hosts, the property managers, could not be more personable or accommodating.

A sunset dinner at the upstairs bar at Zozo’s, a very short walk from the villa, is highly recommended. With only 12 large, padded, comfortable seats a reservation is advised.

Enjoy,
John and Linda
