“Nice Place at a Good Price”
Reviewed 5 February 2007

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we booked at Coconut Coast for our fourth trip to St. John. We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay within walking distance to town and it met our needs. It has a small kitchenette, and although we didn't cook, the refrigerator was great for keeping drinks, fruit, water, cheese, etc. The accommodations are dated and could use some "sprucing-up", but the place was clean. Nancy (the owner) and Sara were very helpful with restaurant recommendations (like La Tapa), as well as different ways for walking into town, depending on where you're heading (St. John is hilly, so you will have to climb some). The villas supply chairs, beach towels and coolers, which is nice for trips to the various beaches. Be sure to rent a car for a few days to see all the island has to offer. Although the accommodations are basic, it was a quiet location and the sound of the water lapping the beach outside our room was wonderful. I've already recommended it to friends who are going to St. John and, if we're travelling by ourselves, we'll stay here again.

We found this place on the web and that can be a problem because we expected so much more. It was too far from the city and the owners were really unwilling to help much. They were mostly gone and when we did see them they had no time to answer any questions, This surprized us, everyone else on the island seemed so nice.

We are the new managers who took over in early 2009. We are very attentive, always responsive to our guests and live on-site to assure excellent service. We do however fully appreciate any and all all feedback and take it very seriously.

The only part of this that we would like to correct is the statement that our property is too far from the city. We are a 10 minute walk to the Beach Bar in Cruz Bay. We are a 15 minute walk to the Dolphin market in Cruz Bay. There are two ways you can walk into town. One is a combination nature trail alongside a beautiful audobon salt pond and street route along Frank Bay and up by Gallows Point into the lower part of town. The other is an all street route along the side of the car barge area and up past the tennis court and then on to the new roundabout in the upper part of towwn. Both ways you walk are easy , mostly flat routes.

Only had one night at Coconut Coast before a week in a house on St John, but the efficiencies are very comfortable, clean and the staff are extremely accomodating. The staff were very responsive with inquiries and details about our final travel arrangements. Enjoyed the top floor unit with the constant breeze and sound of the surf. Thanks Nancy.

This was my first time me or my parents had ever been to the Caribbean. We are SO glad we decided to stay on St. John. St Thomas was nice but St. John was better in almost every way.
We were on a budget and searching for a place to stay when we found Cocount Cost here on Trip Advisor. We stayed for one week in the two bedroom unit. It was plenty big for the three of us and was clean and comfortable. It wasn't like a suite at the Ritz but you aren't paying for that. What you do get is a nice comfortable place to relax after a long day on one of St.John's AMAZING beaches. All of the units at Coconut Coast have balcony's with amazing views that look out over the Caribbean sea which is at most 50 feet away and some units even less. Check out some of my pictures to see what the view looks like. Going to sleep and waking up hearing the small turquoise waves break is something I am never going to forget. All rooms had ceiling fans and both bedrooms had air conditioning that kept the place very comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans and just about every utensil you could find in a kitchen store. This made it very easy to cook in a few nights. They also have a gas grill out by the small pool that while we were there was quite busy in the early evening. One of the few complaints I have was that the floors are tile and our neighbors above us could be heard walking. The owners John and Nancy were very kind and helpful when needed. It is a bit of a walk into town and there are some hills involved so be prepared, however it shouldn't be a problem for most people. I have no problem recommending Coconut coast to anyone.

P.S. I have a problem sleeping if I see any nasty creepy crawlys indoors and am very happy to tell you I saw none :) Just a stray mosquito.

  • Liked — Comfort & Location(waterfront)
  • Disliked — Location(distance from town)
  • Tips/Secrets — Visit the market(Starfish) as soon as you can to get provisions. Shop in St. Thomas if you can, food is cheaper there.

Just completed 5 very pleasant nights at Coco Coast.
Our seafront room was very clean and user-friendly with waves gently lapping at our porchfront and lulling us to sleep each night. The rooms are outfitted with every convenience - from coffeemakers and microwaves to coolers and beach chairs. The hosts are a delightful family. Pea fowl and other interesting birdlife populated the area.

Getting to Cruz Bay is a brisk but easy walk, maybe 15 minutes to the Starfish market. A jeep is worthwhile for island exploring and to get to the fabulous north coast beaches. A highlight of our trip was the hike down Reef Bay Trail to the beach and back up, but make sure you're in reasonable shape as its a steep climb.

We have stayed at Coconut Coast Villas twice now both years that we stayed 2003 & 2005 Easter Week, we stayed in the 1-bedroom with loft unit. It was the perfect size for myself my Wife and 16-yoa Son.

The owners John and Nancy are great as well as John's Mother Elaine who is an artist and has a studio a short distance away with paintings for sale. (great water colors)

The villa and property are very clean and well kept and as others mentioned are right on the ocean. All units have Air conditioning but we never used ours, the trade winds blow nicely and you are plenty comfortable without the use of air.

Rent a Jeep prior to going for the week, we rented from Levi at L&L Jeep rentals both years and he is also the best and very accomadating to your arrival and departure times.

The North Shore Beaches are nothing less then Fantastic and I highly recommend one or more day sails/snorkeling trips while on the island.

Looking forward to returning again soon.

We spent nearly 8 days at the Coconut Coast Villa on St John USVI and I must say that it was extremely enjoyable. We shared a 2 bedroom villa with friends, the place was spotless, the bedrooms very comfortable and the view was a site I will never forget. The owners John and Nancy were so very nice and accomodating to our every need. As one viewer said "they were there if you needed them but basically stayed out of your way". We also enjoyed the company of their dog, Russell and the calico cat. It was very peaceful, quiet & relaxing lounging by the pool. I really loved the sounds of the waves hitting the shore. I would highly suggest anyone, especially first timers to stay at the Coconut Coast.
