Stayed in a 1 bedroom unit via VRBO directly from owner. What a wonderful experience. Covered parking, with walking distance of bars, many dining options, sailing and boat tours, car rental locations, etc. Well appointed rooms including full kitchens, a pool deck overlooking the bay, and more. There is some construction going on beyond one end of the resort but it never affected our stay and should be done soon. I would not hesitate to return to this resort and highly recommend it.

I think it's pretty much general knowledge how beautiful St. John is, The questions are....Where to stay? Where to go? What to do?.
Before I get into some tips, I just want to say that St. John lives up to it's reputation for spectacular beaches. What makes them great is not only the blue water and white sand, but that they are so picturesque. The backdrop of so many cays and neighboring islands adds that Wow factor.
Hot Tips:
1. Grande Bay resort: I was leary about staying in Cruz bay because there are so many Villas in St. John, but it turned out to big a big plus. Room was great (4-203s). Views were awesome. Perhaps best of all was the proximity to town. 2 minute walk to dozens of beach bars/restaraunts, market, excursions.(I will say the only drawback is there is not a great swimming beach right in Cruz bay, but plenty close options)
2. Book through VRBO..It's cheaper because you deal directly with the owner. Jackie our owner was a pleasure to work with and a wealth of information.
3. Hit Happy hour: Nothing like $3.00 drinks and $5.00 fish taco's right on the beach. Spyglass was our favorite. Plus many options and some kind of Live music in a chill athmosphere almost every evening.
4. Snorkeling: I have been lucky enough to snorkel and dive many incredible locations, so I would rate St. John as good but not great. Waterlemon is good for lots of soft coral and fish, but you need to venture out to the backside of the cay. All the beaches are spectacular, and all have at least decent snorkeling with Trunk and Hawksnest being the best options. Remember, You don't need giant coral to see great things, even had my first encounter with school of squid.
5. Kekoa: Great excursion, Great boat, great owner and crew. Definately well worth the $ for the Jost Van Dyke trip. Just a fun, relaxing day. Once again, can't say enough about the owner and his dedication to making it a great day.
6. Taxi's: About $6 per person will pretty much get you to any of the north shore beaches. If you walk into town your sure to find an open air taxi/bus already headed that way that will just pick you up on the way.
7. Cruz vs Coral: I can only say I'm glad I didn't have to make the drive just to come to town. It was wonderful to have everything right there. I was a little sceptical about being in town but it was the right choice for us.
Finally, If you are considering St. Thomas vs St. John, remember this: alot of the people we ran into were people coming on the ferry from St. Thomas to get a real taste of SPECTACULAR.
****Caneel bay would be my next option...Just because they have a nice beach right there....Be prepared to pay $$$$

Room Tip: I will also be adding areview of "Kekoa"

This was our fourth visit to Grande Bay and once again, they did not disappoint! Rooms were spotlessly clean and Dawn, Paul and Colby at the front desk are wonderfully helpful in assisting you plan any activities or dining. The location, in our opinion, is still the best. We love being in town within a few minutes walk of all the restaurants, bars and shopping in Cruz Bay. The full kitchen really suits us as a trip to the market at the beginning of the trip can really help you cut down on food costs. Beaches are an easy cab ride away, or if you have a rental car, that designated parking space in their garage is worth its weight in gold! Scuba divers, you are next door to a great dive shop and their boats leave from directly in front of Grande Bay. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Upper or lower buildings both have great views.

Dear MT_skier,
Apologies for the tardy response to your kind review. While our location and amenities are truly fantastic they are just part of what makes our "paradise" so special. As you so nicely stated, it is associates like Dawn and Colby and the lengths they go to to assist in making everyone's stay so memorable that really is the heart and soul of |Grande Bay.
Many thanks and see you soon for stay number 5!!

Really did my homework using the TA forum. We do not know anyone who had ever been to St. John. Grande Bay's location was the selling point. We had a one bedroom on level 2 with a prime parking place. I began to realize that parking was a really big deal on St. John .So was the elevator for beach chairs, groceries, cooler, and tired beach bums. You also appreciate the washer and dryer if you travel light and don't check luggage. We were able to get out of STT and on the ferry in 35 minutes. Loved being able to walk everywhere -- the Fish Trap restaurant was our favorite and the Beach Bar was almost too easy. I worried needlessly that it would be noisy. Once the doors were closed, it was quiet enough for country folks. The Starfish market wasn't walking distance, so take what you need for the first night. We did rent a car from St. John car rental---easy and close by. We had a brand new king sized bed that was very comfortable. The kitchen was exactly as described and everything functioned very well. The grounds and pool were spotless. We had a little trouble with the television, but there was immediate service to reset the cable channels. The owner that we rented from was very quick to respond to emails. Cell service worked on the balcony. There was a phone for free calls to the mainland if necessary, . Everyone on staff was very courteous and friendly. Highly recommended for first timers; and after traveling around for a week, I can't imagine choosing any other place.

Room Tip: Lower level has unobstructed views and probably easier parking. I think we stayed in 201.

It's not often that you leave the comfort of your own home and go somewhere that has a better bed!!! Grande Bay Resort is one of the most amazing resorts I have ever stayed in. It offers amazing accommodations for my family. So clean. Feels like your own home or better. Just steps from all Cruz Bay has to offer. Nightlife, restaurants, beaches and more. I cannot recommend this resort enough and I cannot wait to go back there again and again!

Room Tip: They offer different size suits. We had a family of 6, we got a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom suit. Washer...

Grande Bay in Cruz Bay proved to be a great location for our vacation. We were within walking distance to all the restaurants and even a small grocery store in town. There were many taxis close by to take visitors to the nearby beaches. The apartment was the perfect size for a couple. We had one bedroom and 1 1/2 baths. The terrace overlooking Cruz Bay was amazing! To secure a better price, check out vrbo.com. It's a little cheaper dealing directly with the owners.

Room Tip: Look for a room in Building 2 which is the closest to the street level. The penthouses have huge te...

We've been coming to the Island for 22 years and this was our first time at GB. We rented from an owner & it couldn't have been easier! We were very lucky to get a good price, a great view & all the little extras - coolers, chairs, parking space, snorkel gear, etc. It was so convenient to be able to walk about anywhere we wanted to go and to pop right downstairs to MOTU for some cold drinks.
The 'only' reason I did not give this 5 Stars and this is being picky, our unit did need some fine tuning, nothing major and the Sales People. Although, they were super low pressure & very nice - as soon as they found out we were not interested in purchasing, there was a totally different vibe - almost quite comical. I know its their job & they do have a certain amount of pressure to 'perform' but don't be right under us at the cocktail parties - we should have just told her from the beginning we weren't interested so she could entertain someone else. It certainly won't deter us from coming back, but we will be clear with our intentions from the get go as not to waste their time. It really is a lovely place to vacation though!

Room Tip: Just make sure you have a VIEW
