“Cruz Views Unit 10”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

My wife and I just returned back from a week stay at Cruz View Condo number 10. We thought the unit was great and the views from the large private deck much nicer than we had anticipated. We enjoyed it so much that it was hard to drag ourselves away everyday. The unit was decorated perfectly for its location and they had everything that we needed. The AC worked well and we never turned it off the whole time we were there. The management company was helpful but we really didn’t need them for anything. The pool was quiet and also had amazing views. The unit is very private and surrounded by lush vegetation and a lot of wild life. We though the unit had the best location on the property but it was a long way to carry luggage. The location of the complex on top of “Pocket Money Hill” is convenient and makes for a quick walk into Cruz Bay. Yes the hill is steep but not that long, so in our opinion it was walk able as long as your not carrying groceries or beach gear.. We absolutely loved St. John and it is now our favorite Caribbean island and we have visited a lot of them. We are already talking about returning next year, which is something we generally don’t do.

We just returned from five nights in Unit #9. The unit is a middle one but that didn't present any problems. We never heard our neighbors on either side, although if they had been on the balcony at the same time, we most certainly would have. We did meet one couple at Woodys and they turned out to be our neighbors at Unit #10 :)

The unit itself was adequate for our needs. Nice king-sized bed with decent bedding and a/c in the bedroom (only). Bathroom was small, but shower was very good sized and great pressure, lots of ledges for your stuff. Loved all the hooks to hang clothing, belts, etc. Kitchen was fine, full sized fridge, micro, coffee. We found two waters and two beers in our fridge, not sure if this is an amenity or just left behind but was much appreciated lol. We were never able to get the televisions working, could only access music, but most likely this was us, we're not very good with remotes haha. We also had a problem with the smoke detector that went off one night but we disconnected it once we figured out where the beeping noise was coming from. Probably just needed a new battery. (Oops I just realized I forget to tell CV mgmt).

Balcony was good sized with the BEST VIEW! We loved sitting out having our coffee every morning and our last drink of the night. Cute two person table, chairs with a couple extra chairs for company I guess. There were four beach chairs, two backpack style, two larger ones and a cooler, all in decent condition. Backpack chairs came in handy for the beach hikes! Pool area was great for late afternoon dips, even had a large table under an awning of sorts for those intermittent showers we had every day.

All in all our stay was a very good one. Winnie from CV picked us up at the ferry and allowed me a few minutes to pick up a box at Connections. She went over the island map with us, gave us some pointers, and was super friendly!

One bit of advice ~ Do NOT discount the steep hill! We were not able to get a rental car but for one day and had to climb down this hill every morning with all our beach gear. It is not a easy climb DOWN, never mind back up which we never did, we paid the $10 cab fare twice daily to get back up to the villa. And its not just the hill, there is no sidewalk to use and you are constantly jumping into the bush to avoid cars. We just kept telling ourselves that the view was worth the exercise lol.

We have stayed in 3 of the 10 units of Cruz Views over the years (staying 5 times) and really like the place. We have enjoyed units 1, 10, & 7 and have not been disappointed. 1 & 10 have lofts for 2 (our kids when they were small). The rental staff is great and not far if you need anything and Sonny takes care of the place, and has for years (he is around regularly). Obviously we like the place. One concern - They have Jeep rentals available through them and the last 2 times that we have rented them they have been of declining quality. This is no small matter given what driving is like around there. Last visit they were extremely helpful when we determined that the Jeep needed to be replaced with another rental. And we find the location to be perfect for our interests (but again, we drive - not everyone wants to).

We stayed here for almost a week. Stunning views and gorgeous sunsets from the wrap around patio! This unit is at the end so your not sandwiched between anyone and the patio is much bigger than the other units that we saw. Great location! Close to everything. Clean place with updated stove. The shower in the bathroom is huge and it's awesome. I love the tile work with the rocks and seashells. Clean and updated with all the things that you would need. There were beach towels to use, beach chairs, a small cooler to use at the beach, stove, fridge etc. This is home away from home. It has all the amenities. The only reason I gave this place a 4 is the pool and the bed. The pool could have been slightly cleaner but we didn't spend too much time at the pool anyway so that really didn't bother us. The bed isn't the most comfortable. It felt like I kept rolling into the middle and it was a bit hard on my back. We decided to use the twin beds upstairs. We also experienced very noisy nieghbors on unit # 2. It sounded like there was a party going on and music blasting up until 1:00 a.m. Good thing it was only 1 day and they checked out the next day. Other than that we had a very pleasant experience. If we ever return back to St. John's we'll make sure we get Unit #4. The groundskeeper was very kind and nice as well.

My husband and I spend our honeymoon in Cruz Views #3! We loved it! We bought food the first night at the dolphin market, down the hill and ate breakfast and a few lunches overlooking Cruz Bay on our patio. We didn't rent a car until the very last night of the trip to do laundry etc. and the taxi cabs were so EASILY accessible by phone and to get back from town! They were also reliable to take us to the beach and the Westin for some water sports. Our host from Carib Villas Management was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Our condo had everything we needed (beach chairs, kitchen items, coolers, etc.) to use during our stay. I give one less star only because the condo could have been a little cleaner. However, it served our purpose as we prefer to steer clear of high priced and resorts.

We stayed here for a week, and loved it. PERFECT for couples. Clean, updated.
Only issue I would see if you wanted to cook there is no oven. But that is it. Nice bathroom, bedroom.
Pool could have been a little cleaner, but your going to the Beach anyway.
I would stay again!

As a whole, the Cruz Views condos are a great location and the added bonus of a nice pool and deck area. While I've heard good things about some of the units, we (2 adult couples) stayed in #5 and it was a poor experience. The unit is in dire need of updates and some TLC, particularly in the loft and bathroom. For our entire four night trip there were constantly ants in the bathroom. At first, just two or three, which is manageable. After the third night, I went into the bathroom in the morning and reached for my toothbrush, which is when I noticed about 50 ants pouring onto the bathroom counter through a hole in the tile (the caulk was missing in several areas and there were lots holes between the tiles, but only one that I noticed the ants coming in from). Additionally, the bathroom hasn't been updated in ages has an overall "never quite clean" feeling to it. The loft was in even worse shape. The "carpeted" floor is absolutely filthy and I even spotted at least one ant up there. There are no shades on the windows so the light comes pouring in first thing in the morning, which was fine for us, but others might not appreciate. However, whoever washed the windows used dirty water, as was apparent from the dirty water stains all over. In addition, it's a very steep climb up the ladder, which might prove very difficult for children or adults with knee/joint problems. There is no mirror or garbage can upstairs, which meant a trek down the dreaded ladder to throw out a tissue or apply suntan lotion with the assistance of a mirror. The bedroom on the ground floor appeared to be in much better shape, although I'm not sure if/when the floor in the ground area was ever cleaned. My feet were black just from walking around in the morning. On the plus side, there's a balcony (although with a partially obstructed view), and plenty of towels for the shower and beach going for a party of four. I'd be willing to try Cruz Views again, but only if I could book one of the more updated units.
