Serendip Vacation Condos
Reviewed 12 May 2010

My wife and I recently stayed at Serendip Condos while vacationing on St. John. We selected Serendip after an exhaustive search of properties on the island, as its description and price met what we were looking for. A few phone calls to Ted Johnson, resident manager, also helped seal the deal, as he was genuinely interested in helping us plan a memorable vacation.

The complex is set up on a lush hillside, overlooking Cruz Bay. My wife and I opted not to rent a vehicle during our stay and managed the walk into Cruz Bay (just under a mile) quite easily. Our 'Bravo' unit had a nicely equipped full kitchen, and we took advantage of the two markets located just down the hill (Pine Peace and Starfish) to provide fixings for a few meals enjoyed on our large balcony overlooking the bay. The on-site grill was handy in grilling up a few steaks, and it afforded an opportunity to chat with Ted Johnson and get good sight-seeing tips!

The units are nicely appointed with island-themed decorations and are equipped with practical items (i.e. tote bags, beach blankets, a cooler, kitchen appliances/dishes) to assist in making the stay on the island a little more cost-friendly. A large 3-ring binder filled with important island information was also extremely helpful, as was the free WIFI, should you happen to bring a laptop.

Like many who have visited St. John, we hope to return again one day. Thanks to Ted Johnson, with his ability to manage a very nice property and his willingness to make our stay a memorable one, Serendip Condos would be our first choice for lodging.

We loved staying at the serendip. The view and location worked out for us since we like to see as much of the island as we can. My husband likes to BBQ and I found the pool refreshing and the hammock great for watching the clouds roll by. We will definitely stay again it just feels like home.

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to St. John. We stayed at Serendip in the Coral unit. Working with Ted was great! He made everything so simple from start to finish. We arrived to a very clean unit with everything we needed for the week from beach chairs, beach towels, coolers to all the little things like bug spray and coffee filters. We had a wonderful view of St. Thomas from our patio, which was very large and inviting! Serendip is located just up the hill from Starfish Market in Cruz Bay which made it a great starting point every morning. I was very happy with everything about Serendip and would definitely return!

We stayed at serendip condos and had the most beautiful view ever. I want to go back so bad.Our manager Ted was so helpful. We had a fruitplate and drinks waiting for us along with some fresh flowers. The condo was so clean and organized. We had beautiful weather It rained our last day there but there was even an umbrella in the condo. We also has chairs for the beach and beach bags along with a cooler to stock. Thank you Ted..This was our first trip to the VI and I wouldn't want to stay any where else. I just loved our patio and the bed was so comfortable.Taking the cabs everywhere
did get costly but was well worth it because the roads are very hard to drive on. The beaches were the most beautiful I have ever seen. We had such good food and we even cooked out 3 days on our grill. It was a wonderful trip.

We recently spent a week at Serendip while exploring St John. We were in the Coral unit on the top floor.

Pros:
~The manager Ted is a great guy. Arranged our rental car and met us at the ferry. Very helpful but not bothersome. He had a well put together guide book/binder in the unit.
~The unit was clean and had an awesome large covered porch that was great for reading, relaxing and meals. Ted showed us how to fill the bird feeder next to the porch with sugar for the yellow sugar birds, and they were fun to watch.
~There were great views from the porch - of Cruz Bay and other islands.
~Swimming pool was refreshing for a dip after a long day of snorkeling and hiking.
~There are two grocery stores close by.

Cons:
~Noisy - the buildings are in a residential area of Cruz Bay. There is alot of noise - roosters crowing, traffic noise, goats, etc. We should have brought a white noise machine or earplugs, esp since the weather was cooler/rainy when we were there, so we didn't need to run the a/c. We didn't hear the other people staying at Serendip as much as the rest of the neighborhood. We're not overly light sleepers either.
~Parking is a bit of a hassle.
~We were hoping to be able to walk into Cruz Bay for dinner/drinks, but that's just not realistic. The roads are narrow and winding, with basically zero side walk.

Overall, compared to the prices of the other hotels/resorts on the island, Serendip is a great value.

Searching an alternative to the very expensive Westin on beautiful St.John we found Serendip which is really a jwel in the island´s accomodation scene: Nice rooms, clean, each with a big terrace overlooking Cruz Bay and St. Thomas`East End. A friendly and chap market in walking distance offers anything you may need for your stay. Cruz Bay is 3 minutes away by car, the fabulous north beaches 10 minutes.
We had a studio, Juliette, which is highly recommended for couples. Other appartments offer more space and an separate (rather small) bedroom.
The rates are fair and affordable, far from those "galactic" dimensions of the resorts and other villas.
A real highlight is the outstanding manager, Ted, who will make you feel very welcome and help you with everything from booking to the needs of your stay.
It was a great pleasure to stay for one week in Serendip!

Starting with Ted's uncanny intuition to find us right off the boat to give us a ride up a hill that we would only walk down. Followed by quaint one room condo with a great view of the bay. All of the insight and advice we received was spot on. The hospitality we had really made me want to either buy one of the condos there or at least reserve one every year. This was our first trip to the tropics and we were not disappointed. The people were great and the scenery was fantastic. We even changed our plans from camping for 3 days to staying at Serendip because it was to comfortable to leave!!
