“Best Snorkeling on St. John”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

O.K., so this review is for snorkelers not for sunbathers. Getting to the beach at Leinster Bay requires a easy and beautiful hike along the rocky shore. The beach itself is very thin and most of it is in the shade all day. If you are a sunbather, you will be disappointed.

However, the snorkeling is fantastic. (have a look at my photos) As soon as you plop your face in the water, you are going to see fish. As you progress to the left side of the bay, you will see dinner plate sized starfish, coral, turtles (we saw two) and an amazing variety of fish.

There are no facilities so be prepared. For a snorkler/hiker a great day would be to arrive in the morning and park near the Annaberg sugar Plantation ruins. Enjoy a very scenic hike through the ruins. Then, grab your fins and head for Leinster bay! Finally, when you are finished snorkeling and ready for some sun, head back over Francis Bay (short drive) and swim until the sun sets! Mmmm...

“Worth the drive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

This part of the park is pretty far away but it is worth the drive. The reef around the cay is in good shape and it is not busy. Plenty of fish life and turtles to see here. Ma the effort and go here as not many others do.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2014

The road to this bay is in very poor condition, and barely manageable with a Jeep. The snorkeling isn't very good either.

“Nice snorkeling!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2014

This is a great spot to hike and snorkel. There are no facilities so bring your own drinks and snacks. Just be sure you drive yourself! Taxis are happy to drop you off, but they are NOT commonly there when you are done. The reef is very nice and the snorkeling is very good.

“Nice easy walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

This walk is so beautiful and easy that you could walk it in flip flops. A gorgeous 0.8mi hike out to the bay. We hiked in with a backpack that carried our snorkel gear. The beach is rocky with a small area of sand. The reef was ok against the rocks. The water is very clear. We saw turtles and barracudas.
