We rented a jeep this day and got to snorkel at Salt Pond Bay. A great place to see lots of colorful fish and coral. We snorkeled around the island and saw a 6-8' shark, another 4' shark and a barracuda - something we saw nowhere else. This is a diamond in the rough.

The remoteness of this bay makes it nice because there's very little people around. There were a few sunbathers, and sailboats, but otherwise it was empty compared to the other beaches on the island.

The walk from the parking lot is a long down hill trek on a dirt road with little cover from the sun. So be sure you remember that when you leave for the day because it's a longer walk back up the hill to your car.

This is a gorgeous beach....a little off the beaten path if you are staying near Cruz Bay, but worth the drive. We stayed in Coral Bay so this was just a few minutes from our villa. We parked, made the short hike to the beach and found that we had the whole beach to ourselves. The sand was soft, the water was crystal clear and calm. We had great snorkeling here too--saw a few stingrays, a sea turtle, and beautiful reef fish. This may be our "go to" spot.

When I stay in or around Coral Bay This is my Favorite beach to go to. You can enjoy this beach or the trail to Rams head takes out this beach if you also want to hike that trail. so take a ride to salt pond if your on that part of the island & I don't think you will be sorry you did.

On the opposite side of St John from Cruz Bay, this isolated spot is well worth the drive to get there. Snorkeling is awesome,w ith virtually no current or waves and lots of sea life to see. It is about 1/4 mile walk from the parking area down to the beach which is great for kids. Bring a picnic to enjoy, tables are there. A 1/2 mile further walk takes you to the open Atlantic side of the island and a rough, rock strewn coastline that is beautiful to see. Waves crash on the rocks and tempt you to walk among them and explore for treasures. There is a surprise there that will interest most anyone; you'll need to go to see it!
