If you are walking through downtown Nassau you should definitely make time to see the Public Library. It is a time machine into a romantic past of dusty volumes, paper archives, and artifact museums. The lady who greeted me at the door was nothing short of charming and the view from the top floor terrace is not to be missed.

Nice place to pop in for a peek if it's raining outside. If you can get up the steps. Very nice gardens. Not much parking available.

The library deserves a visit. The building is nice and you can have good views, over the other buildings around, from the terrace.
The museum is basically a bunch of old objects displayed on tables in 2 tinny rooms.
The architecture is also nice, it's a circular building.

An old jail that in the late 1800's was turned into a library. If you're just walking around Nassau and want something interesting to see, definitely stop in there to see the exhibits upstairs and the jail cells turned into places to hold books. Plus, if you need to use a computer it only costs one Bahamian dollar for 15 minutes of internet access (definitely cheaper than on the cruise ship). There's a lovely little park right outside with a WWI and II Memorial.

This building used to be a jail, but now it is a library. It is very cute on the outside, but the inside needs some work done. The first floor has stacks of books in every room (can't really walk anywhere, very cramped) while the second store has museum exhibits (like skulls) but nothing is labeled. It takes a total of 5 minutes to see so if you are on your way to the Queen's Staircase, stop in.
