“All inclusive pass for the day at British Colonial Hilton, Nassau”
Reviewed 17 March 2014

On March 15, 2014 we were at this hotel with a pass for the day. It was purchased through "Resort for the Day" and was worth the money.
The place was spotlessly clean, the beach was clean and beautiful, there were towels provided, nice beach chairs, changing rooms, and service on the beach. The young man who was our waiter was charming and efficient.
Walking distance from the Nassau Port was lovely and since it is a downtown hotel, we could leave whenever we wanted and walk around town, and we did that several times through out the day.

This was a multiple family vacation. We had booked a room per family, all rooms with 2 beds. 1 family got the standard 2 bed room as booked. Another got an upgraded room to a suite with a sofa bed, and separate bedroom and large balcony, and we were given a room with 1 bed and a cot as we were travelling with 3. Despite the room being very crowded, the hotel was fully booked and that was sufficient for us. Hotel was clean, service very friendly and efficient. However, after the 2nd night, the lock on the door failed and would not open. After an hour, engineering got us into the room and we were moved to an upgraded room which was a small suite. Much more room for us as we now had 2 rooms (bedroom, and a sofa bed in a living area). Pool and beach were clean. There were always plenty of lounges at pool and on beach available so no need to claim them early like in other resorts. Location is great - downtown Nassau a short walk to the cruise ship pier. Loved this hotel and trip!

My husband and I took a long weekend in Nassau and this was the perfect location. And although location is not everything, being here was perfect. We were able to walk Bay St. which is the shopping area... AWESOME.. sightseeing, eating, and relaxing, perfect. BUT, it's not all about Location, Location, Location. The service was (with the exception of one woman at the front desk who MUST have been having a bad day) very good. Very attentive, and very nice, friendly. Drinks by the pool, perfect. Breakfast at Aqua, not so much. The folks were nice, but it was $50 for two of us for the buffet, which was really average. We only went one morning, and McDonalds across the street was a perfect place to get something quick (and cheap). Dunkin Donuts is also right across the street for any of you DD fans out there. The room was "fine". Our carpet was stained, there was 'old' dirt in the bathroom, we didn't run the tub (from others pictures I was afraid to), and it just seemed tired. The main bar downstairs was really nice for a night-cap one evening, not crowded, nor really expensive. If you got a "package" while booking your trip, double check to make sure (more than once) that it has been applied. When we checked on Saturday the woman (above not having a good day) said she couldn't see the package, and did I have proof? Of course I had proof, we went back to the room, got the proof, went back downstairs, waited in line (again) showed another woman behind the desk, who had to then check with her manager, and came out 15 minutes later and said they would apply the $50 credit/per day to our bill. We had checked upon arrival and was told it was on our room, then it must have mysteriously walked off. In the end, it was fine but frustrating none the less. We would go back with the lessons we learned this time.

Room Tip: Lots of other places to find a good value for breakfast, skip the buffet unless you have folks with...

We loved the location because it was central to many areas. We walked to fish fry, hiked over the bridge to Atlantis, and even ventured to south beach (a 7 mike trek I don't recommend). The room was by the service elevator but not noisy. The worst part was the tiny dirty shower. We didn't spend much time in the rom but would've liked a bed that wasn't so lumpy! Ok beyond this...

The poolside bar was great one day and so so the next. Closed too early all days!! Drinks aren't cheap but the rum is aplenty!

The one day we wanted to try the restaurant we were turned away. Must've gotten there right after breakfast and before lunch-- there should be some other plan for this!! The same day we encountered cleaning crews and food delivery in the regular elevators-- a serious no no!

Overall, the hotel's location and customer service were good/great but the cleanliness caused me to give the average ranking.

Moderate hotel...great location, if you enjoy city walks and downtown areas rather than a resort life. They have few annoying areas resort fees... Very small beach, really polluted and dirty water compared to other beaches on the island. Overall I recommend it for the rooms...clean and large, location...

Room Tip: Higher floors in the middle overlook the water...

This hotel is centrally located and appears lovely until you inspect the details. The hotel has quite a bit if deferred maintenance. Both the TV remote and clock radio had pieces that had broken off. When we opened the French doors in our room, rotted wood fell on the floor and significant rot was visible in the door. The floor lamp in our room could only be turned off and on by plugging and unplugging at the wall outlet. Water pressure on the 6th floor, which is an Executive floor, is so poor that taking a shower is difficult. Advertised WIFI is not consistently available. One of the 3 elevators was broken for several days and at one point only 1 elevator was working.

Room Tip: Avoid the 6th floor due to inadequate water pressure. This problem was mentioned by another guest...

Although the service was fine, I cannot recommend this hotel. Upon checking in, we were forced to switch rooms due to the condition of the room. Our second room was not much better, but it was clear that it wasn't going to improve. The most striking thing was the rust-colored water. Otherwise, I agree with several other comments about the beach - it's in the shadow of the cruise boats and, as a result, smells like diesel and is overrun by folks from the ships coming to use the beach for the day.
