Reviewed 13 April 2012

I travelled to SRB the first week of April, 2012. It was my first time in the Bahamas and my first time at a Sandals.

On our day of departure, Air Canada cancelled our flight at 4:30am on our way to the airport for a 6:00am flight. Long story short, we didn't end up arriving in the Bahamas until 24 hours later... So it was extra nice that it was only a ten minute drive from the airport to the resort, champagne awaited us upon our arrival, and our room was ready for us when we arrived.

The thing that probably stood out the most, in a good way, was the staff. It is apparent that they are very thoroughly trained and are very professional.

Our room was located in newly renovated the Balmoral tower (room 316). This room had a great oceanfront view. It was not overlooking a pool so it was very private and quiet. We had the concierge room as part of our room selection. The concierge greeted us upon arrival and made two restaurant bookings for dinner, and that was it for the concierge for the rest of the week. The upgraded concierge option was unecessary. The room was nice: in room bar, stocked fridge, balcony with two lounge chairs and a small table with two chairs, two bathroom sinks (one located inside the washroom and one outside the washroom), ceramic floor.

The grounds of the resort were very well maintained. The temperature of the 'quiet' pool was extremely cold. Too cold in fact. The 'party' pool was much warmer (anywhere from 85-92 degrees). One day, in the morning, that pool was murky and dirty with leaves and straws from drinks floating around. It was obvious the pool had not been cleaned the night before/or that morning. The pool remained uncleaned for the remainder of the day. That was one of the few points I found unacceptable for a 5 star resort.

I found the entertainment disappointing. I thought for a 5 star Sandals it would have been better. It's not a very important option for me though -to have great/a lot of entertainment.

Our Sandals organized group snorkelling trip was cancelled 4 days in a row at the end of our trip due to rough water, which was disappointing as we ended up returning home before the snorkelling trips resumed. I would recommend people book the water excursions upon arrival for the beginning of the trip so that you have more days in case things are cancelled or bumped back due to weather or rough water.
Also, I was a little annoyed that were weren't allowed to use snorkelling gear unless it was part of an organized group activity. That is the first time I have been to an all-inclusive resort where you can't use the face masks and flippers on your own.

Another recommendation is to book your dinner reservations for the week upon arrival so that you can dine at the restaurants that appeal to you --for one of the restaurants, we booked the reservation upon arrival and were only able to book for the last day of our trip as the restaurant was fully booked for the other days.

All in all it was a nice resort and the staff made it that much better.

I would most likely vacation at a Sandals again but undecided if I would return to SRB in particular.

We booked a holiday at the Sandals, Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island in Nassau. We did have a budget so we booked the Cat Island Premium Package but you can go all the way up to suites with butler service & Rolls Royce airport transfers. I started to read the reviews and was really taken aback by what others were saying but we still went. We were there from Thursday, April 5 - Thursday, April 12th. Well this place was amazing. The place is large and spread out and very beautiful with fountains and statutes throughout. We stayed in the Jasmine Villa. There are 10 villas. Our Villa contained 4 rooms. Very quite, we didn’t hear any noise at all.

What was included:
• Transfers to and from the hotel to airport
• All sports included equipment
• 6 swimming pools, 6 whirlpools and a scuba pool. It even had an Offshore Island – Sandals Cay this had everything too
• There were 10 restaurants and 9 bars (2 bars even had swim up service). The variety of drinks offered was excellent. For 3 restaurants there was a dress code but all others were casual dress.
• There were activities throughout the day and you are given an itinerary as to when and where so you choose what you want.
• The room was big and it contained a nice king size 4 poster bed; it had double doors to a private patio in the courtyard surrounded by flowers/plants and it contained a table, two chairs and also a stand to put your bathing suit/towels out; TV was a big plasma one; CD player. There was also another room that had a table & chair should you decide to eat in along with a bar + fridge. There was tea, coffee, Bottle of Rum, Vodka, Whiskey, Gin & a bottle of Red Wine plus in the fridge was beer, water, coke, ginger ale, apple juice, bottle of white wine & a bottle of champagne. When emptied it was replaced!!!!
• They had a brochure from Majestic Tours and we booked the Nassau & Country Tour. This tour company is located in the hotel so the booking was easy and they picked you right up at the door.
• There is a Bus Stop right at the entrance so it was easy to take the bus to downtown Nassau (of course to go shopping) which is only 15 minutes away.
We also took the bus to downtown Nassau and took the water taxi to Paradise Island so we could see the Atlantis Hotel.
• A big plus is that the tips, gratuities and hotel taxes are included in the package.

Everyone greeted you from the groundskeeper to anyone wearing a Sandals Badge. We truly recommend this hotel for a truly super holiday where you relax if you want to or join the activities arranged throughout the day.

The Staff was fanatastic and thanks to Vincent, Gemalayal and Meleka our stay at this Sandals was fabulous. These three individuals could not do enough for us. We have already booked out next Sandals vacation. Thanks for the great send off Rick, your team did a great job. Great food, great service and wonderful attitudes of the staff makes for a vacation. Thanks again. Pam and Bob 1605.

Room Tip: The Butler service rooms are elegant.

So much for a grand time. This was the first time I had any experience using a travel agent, to be honest I didn't realize they still existed. My new husband always uses one, so we did. She had booked us in a "honeymoon suite" garden view. When we arrived it was late, very late. The room we were in was top notch! Looked as though it had just been updated. Awesome, but not a suite. I was ok with it, but my husband was not. The room was not stocked with alcohol which was an important element for us; especially would have appreciated wine or champagne for our honeymoon. We asked for dinner to be brought to our room since we were so late getting in and after a little hassle they delivered food and alcohol. The next day our travel agent had talked with the Resort folks and had us moved to another room (the one we had booked, I assume), not bad, but definitely not as nice as the previous room. Fully stocked and next to the party pool! Not exactly what I had envisioned. Then we attempted to make reservations to ANY restaurant on the property we were told there were NO reservations for the week. Really???? After my husband discussed the dissatisfaction we had experienced thus far, two reservations mysteriously appeared! It just seems you have to get angry to get what you paid for. That is unfortuante. However, with all that said, the weather was beautiful, the food was amazing, and the staff (for the most part) was nice. We might return, but it won't be any time soon.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the Windsor, choose the other tower (Balmoral Tower, maybe?)....can't remember...

OverThe best all inclusive resort we have ever visited. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was nice, but for some reason we did not get the room we had booked. This did not make much difference to us as we did not spend much time in the room.

The food was excellent and there was someting for every taste - from fine dining, evening meal on the beach, to handmade pizzas. Two of our best meals were at Kimonos (thanks to Chef "Tiny") and at Baccarats (thanks to Rachad). The free beer, wine, and liquor was good, but some people may wish to pay extra for the more expensive brands.

The watersports were excellent: sailing, paddle boarding, snorkling, and scuba diving (with sharks!). If you do not know how to scuba dive, you can take a course at the resort for an additional charge. Wentzell and the rest of the guys and gals at the dive shop and dive boat were fantasitic.

Sandals has an island that is just a short boat ride from the resort. The island has beautiful sand beaches, a restaurant, and spa. It is quieter and more relaxing on the island.

We would recommend anyone planning to go to the resort should read the info (FAQ) on the Sandals web site. It will help avoid unpleasant surprises such as: some resaurants require a reservation, some have a dress code, you may need paperwork completed by a physician to scuba dive.

You should plan for a trip to Nassau, the fish fry for conche (fantasic), and Paradise Island for a day at the waterpark. We decided to stay at the Comfort Hotel the second day we were there as it is $150 per person to get a day pass to the park. It cost about $350 to stay at the Comfort inn - after an exhaustive day in the park its nice not to have to drive back to our other accomodations and just relax. We also got to walk around the marina, casino, hotels of Paradise Island and took an informative ferry ride the next day to Nassau.

we had a great time

Room Tip: When you go - bring a copy of your reservation that indicates what room catagory you booked.
