Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island

Although the resort was a little gaudy (think Caeser's Palace without the good taste), the overall experience was very good: two nice pools, nice big rooms, nice beach and nice offshore island. The quality of the food was just ok and the service was not 5 star, but everyone was trying hard.
Cable beach was a lonely place 25 years ago, but now it's shore is covered with buildings big a small. A shame!
Don't go if you are looking for long solitary walks on the beach or quiet romantic evenings.

Just returned from a week at the Royal Bahamian and have to agree with most of the latest bad reviews. We were very disappointed with the “included Luxury” there was very little of that.
The food was very good so we have no complaints about that, although without our friends, who had just done a week in Sandals Antigua, not being given a permanent room for three days, we would never have known about Baccarat, Kimono’s or Gordons on the Pier (that we got free of charge thankfully) as you really have to book as soon as you arrive. There just isn’t time for that as you have to endure a guided tour of the site (WHY!) and to make matters worse a guided tour of your own room, sorry guys I have lived on this planet for over 48 years, I know how a TV works and aircon and how to flush a loo!!!
Apart from a couple of servers in the restaurants the service was dire, especially at the so called beach bar, one member of staff with two speeds, slow and stop, and as for getting the right drink, there were six of us and we hardly ever got the right drink, perhaps they only understand American!
All in all a bad experience for many reasons, most of which are mentioned in the previous reviews. But mainly down to staff issues.
On another note, they advertise Sandals as a romantic getaway, so I was very surprised to find many couples that really belonged on an 18-30 holiday, all getting very drunk and very loud, so any newlyweds wanting a bit of space and maybe sometime in a hot tub, forget it
I will never go to another Sandals as this so called luxury holiday failed on many levels to meet expectations.

Room Tip: Dont go to the Windsor building, old and outdated

We just returned from a week anniversary vacation at Sandals...the resort is lovely and very clean, but on the small side. The beach is perhaps only a 1/4 mile long. You do have a little more room to roam on the private island. but still not a place for LONG walks. At the same time, the island is a wonderful place to go. Plenty of chairs to relax in...a nice pool to enjoy right by the bar
and a good beach, NOT too crowded, with a clean area to swim. Goombay Cafe is perfect for lunch and you can also get a massage at the on island spa. The main issue is the island is not always accessible The waves can be rather strong near the pier and make it difficult for the boat to dock. At those times, they dont run the boat and it is closed for the day.

We stayed in the Manor building and had a newly renovated room, the Buckingham, oceanview, concierge level. Our view was of the pool/ocean which was nice. We could see what was going on at the pool and still get the evening sunset over the ocean. We had a small balcony
with a table and two chairs. If you want a bigger balcony with lounge chairs, you need to be in the rooms that directly face the ocean. Most of them are suites. We found our room was fine for our needs.

It is true you MUST book your restaurants as soon as you arrive. If you find you can't get into a
restaurant...keep checking back with the concierge because something can open up. We feel part of the problem some people have is the guests don't always cancel or show up to the restaurants they have booked. We feel this is very inconsiderate on their part. Many of the no shows seem to come from butler service guests who didn't care if they made it to their reservation leaving others left waiting in line for a lengthy time to try and get in.

We do agreee that there is a tough time getting chairs by the pool because they are reserved very early usually by the butlers. It could help if the resort added more chairs for the pool area.
There is plenty of room to do this. And if people have gone to the island for the day...they should
take their towels off the chairs so others could use them. We did have a couple times when we could not find a towel. The key is getting one the night before and you will have it for the next day.

We would say the best part of the resort is the staff. They are friendly, hard working people who go out of their way to help make your stay comfortable. The whole concierge staff is great. We especially loved Sandra and Erica.

Our favorite bartender is Sherwin at the piano bar. He has a great personality and makes a great
dirty martini.

We always looked forward to the breakfast buffet at Spices. Glenda is a fabulous hostess with a sunny disposition who will start your morning off with a smile. Ratheneon, was among our favorite
servers. He is polite and friendly....he plays basketball and will had fun conversations with him. We had a good meal at Gordon's on the Pier...great service, good food and we were lucky to see
a magnificent sunset....We also enjoyed the Crystal room for dinner. One morning we had breakfast at Baccarats and enjoyed a nice eggs benedict. This is a good choice if you have time
for a leisurely breakfast. Baccarats was also our favorite restaurant for dinner. Everything about it was top notch. Troit, the manager, was very gracious and kept checking to see if we were enjoying our meal. Our drink server Michael made sure we had plenty of wine and champagne. And we can't say enough about Gerard, who made us feel special by bringing out samples of other dishes on the menu for us to try. The baked lobster was melt in your mouth delicious, the duck very moist and flavorful and the escargot in a pastry puff was heavenly. We enjoyed everything we tried and felt it was the highlight of our stay for dinner.

We didn't have good weather which was sad. Out of a week, we only had two and a half days of sun. This was a bit depressing. The Bahamas had a record amount of rain while we were there. It would be nice if the resort had a few extras to enjoy during bad weather...like pay per view movie stations where you could see recent movies in your room. The gift shop could use
a bigger area of books and a magazine section. Otherwise you might need to go across the street to find something to read. It would also be great if there was some entertainment on dismal days. They have a terrific singer who entertains on the beach most evenings when it isn't raining and it would be fantastic to hear someone like him in the royal theater on a rain day.

The resort as a whole is very cozy....there are some small changes that could make it better. They do ask for suggestons and comments and we feel feedback is important to help them improve. Be sure to check when you get to your room to make sure you have robes, umbrella
and a TV guide to see what channels are available. These were a few things which were missing from our room, but the staff was good about getting them for us. All you have to do is ask.

We had plans to do more around the island and the weather caused tours to be cancelled so it wasn't quite the best vacation we had hoped it would be. All in all the vacation is what you make it and we are grateful the warm Bahamian people helped us to enjoy our stay.

Room Tip: Manor building....ocean view, higher floor which is quiet and comfortable and near the gym

We just returned from Sandals Royal Bahamian Offshore Resort and Spa and miss it terribly. It was outstanding. We arrived after a long day of flying to fresh, wet towels where we could feel rejuvenated to a warm reception of staff ready to sort our luggage and mindlessly get us to our rooms as quickly as possible. We were graciously swept to our 5th floor on the Windsor block to a spacious, apartment sized room. Complete with champagne and a gorgeous view we were ready to tour the grounds.

Cricketers Pub was a great way to pass the time before we enjoyed our al a carts. It was our first introduction to “Carrie” a crazy, energetic waitress who was able to get us anything we wanted with our jet-fatigued etiquette. Her co-workers are hilarious and ready to party at anytime. At night time it becomes the disco although we didn’t go it sounded like fun.

We loved Casanova’s pasta. We ate there twice and the Spaghetti Bolognese was to die for. The al a cartes were easy to book as the reception staff were accommodating at any time of the day. We booked Kimonos, Cafe Goombay (Island) and Baccarrat on the first morning we were there. We loved both Kimonos and Baccarat, but we had to cancel Cafe Goombay as we had chartered a sailboat/snorkel/BBQ tour to Rose Island and were too tired to make our 6:30 reservation. However, Cafe Goombay is on the private island and we enjoyed it every day for lunch especially the Cobb/Chicken Salad and Shakira the waitress. I miss you Shakira! Hello to Tim who brought us buckets of beer and glasses of wine to the beach; he’s our adopted Bahamian nephew! Just a quick note to the bartender Gavin – cheer up man! You have the greatest job in the world in the most beautiful location; share the love!

We spent just about every day at the private island snorkeling on the north side. Every day we saw turtles, tons of fish and spent on average 2 hours in the water. It’s not warm water for long periods of snorkeling but well worth it if you can break it up. Don’t worry about the boat it comes every 50 minutes. If you miss it, grab a rum punch and relax. Thanks to “Sonny” the captain for putting up with crazy tourists!!!

Our room was outstanding, great bed, terrific bar, it didn’t take them long to figure out we love champagne. However, the hair dryer was under-powered. Now that airlines are charging for baggage that’s over-weight you should be able to leave your heavy hair dryer at home and depend on the hotels for this. (That’s a note for the management.)

Other Quick Things We Loved:
- Piano bar; great sing-a-long every night. Charlton rocked! He did a great job of encouraging audience participation to the point where folks were standing on the piano bench and belting out “You Shook Me All Night Long”.
- Friday Night Mini-Junkanoo. Quite thrilling to hear the small band that offers a “taste” of what happens during Christmas and New Year. Also, Sandals offers a buffet right around the pool of Bahamian fare complete with Conch Salad and their famous coleslaw, among other delicacies.
- The House Wine is fantastic! (Beringer Stone Cellars)
- Special band one night offered dancing by the pool featuring local talent; saxophone player, followed by a wonderful band and a female vocalist who was awesome (sorry can’t remember names here too busy dancing)!
- Take the #10 bus to downtown and walk around. Pay $1.25 when you get off the bus. Visit the Straw Market, go to the Fish Fry, and check out the Harley Davidson store for less expensive Bob Marley (Zion-brand) T-Shirts. For a “real” adventure take the #10a bus into the residential area to get a feel for how the Bahamians live.
- Take an exercise session with "Leslie". We ran on the beach and did alot of resistance exercises (similar to PGX); Meet him at 8:30 at the Theatre. Gym was small but offered a great view from the penthouse of the Balmoral area.

In conclusion; we loved Sandals and it was one of the best all-inclusives we have been to so far and we would go back, but for the price; Mexico is still a great competitor.

Room Tip: Bring your own hair dryer. In room dryers are under-powered. Otherwise great rooms.

I recently celebrated a serious senior birthday at Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort with a group of girl friends. I was brought up in the Bahamas so it was a bit of a trip down memory lane for me too. We had anxiety about being a group of females at a 'couples;' resort, but must say this was never an issue - apart from being asked regularly if we were enjoying our honeymoon - all in jest!

The resort was beautiful and quite quiet and we loved the all incllusive experience. The private island, Sandals Cay, is fabulous in evey way! I would question the 5 star rating - the rooms were a tad tired, there was no shower gel and no bath caps - odd things to be missing from a 5 star resort surely? The food was mostly good although puddings generally disappointing - and the extra paid for a meal at Gordon's on the Pier was defintiely not worth it.

Most of the staff were fabulous - the piano barmen in particular - Brown Sugar is the best cocktail ever!! However our experience of the concierge staff was not helpful - they never seemed to have the answers, they didn't call back when requested and there seemed to be a bit of an attitude at times, when we were seeking advice or clarification

But overall we loved it - so don't be worried about going there as a single sex group, just be brave and go for it!!

We just got back from the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort and we were not disappointed. As soon as we arrived we felt the calmness of the resort and the Regal feel of the property. Every aspect of the resort is lovely, the grounds with their exotic flowers and landscape, the several resturants, bars, pools, the island, (oh the island), the firepits and lounging spots, all excellent! We did take the advise of other reviews and booked the speciality resturants as soon as we checked in and there was no problem! I liked the Bacarat and my husband enjoyed the Kimonos . The Crystal room was lovely, a bit slow but very nice and good service. The Casanova was also good but not our favorite, although we ate breakfast there quite a few times.
The Spices resturant is a buffet style and we did eat brekfast and lunch a few times, pretty well same idea everyday with a few different themes at lunch. The island food was all good, try the Conch Soup ( yum) and dinner was also very tasty there. We did not eat on the dock as it was not included in our room but has plenty of other choices. The pub was like an old english pub with pub food and the pizza in the afternoon was fabulous. The Royal Cafe we only ate at once, more snack type food we could eat at home. There was entertainment at the quiet pool during the day and at night there was either a band somewhere or a flutist and saxaphone by the firepits. And then then was the piano bar, with Leonardo playing and listening to all of us want a be singers, after a few drinks ( which I must say all bars and bartenders were very accomodating for out drink requests). We stayed in the Balmoral tower ( Cat Is category) and asked for a room higher up. They gave aus an ocean pool view # 502 with sliding doors and a mini balcony ( very nice). We tried to do kayaking or sailing everyday weather permitting and if you do not like water sports there is lots of activity at the party pool by Windsor tower everyday. We stayed 10 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. With that all said, I did hear some people complaining about little things, but when you think about it I didn't have to cook, clean and only did all of the things I wanted to do when I wanted to, and there was plenty to do, or just relax by the pool and sip a cool drink. We really didn't want to leave! What more could I ask for. Will we go back, we will certainly try another Sandals ( we like to go new places) and would I recommend it, in a minute! Thanks to all of the Sandals staff for making this a very enjoyable memorable trip.

Reading all the negative reviews on here really concerned me, but we had already bought the trip. I've travelled a lot for work and pleasure, and stayed in nice places in the British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Peru, Spain, Paris, London, Mexico, Banff, Salt Lake City etc, and I was happy to find everything here much better than the reviews and one of my best vacations! I can't believe how many people talk about how awesome the pizza was and diss everything else...perhaps that is the problem, don't go to the Bahamas if all you want is to eat and act like a stubborn, selfish American! So many negative visitors at the resort when we went complaining about the most ridiculous stuff, but the staff was extremely friendly and if you're a positive person you'll have a truly amazing experience. We got the cheapest room available (a honeymoon deluxe in the gardens) and were surprised to find it was in the perfect location--quiet gardens, semi-private hot tub and pool, near the tennis courts, bocci ball and other games. There was no alcohol in the room due to the cheap rate, so we asked to have a couple bottles of champagne and rum delivered to the room (which they promptly delivered, no charge) and we kept them in the mini fridge. The food was excellent and though not as much seafood as I would've like, I still ate seafood every meal. The breakfast buffet at Spices were our favorite, and you can sit outside there if you wanted. Lunches were ok, I agree this food wasn't great for that time, usually we did pizza on the beach for lunch. Dinners were all very good. We went over Valentine's 2012 and had no problem getting a reservation on the private island even on Valentine's day. Baccarat was very booked, but we stopped in one night anyway and got a table because some people never showed up for their reservation (this gets to the "Island Time" idea, if something is fully booked, don't worry, stop in anyway and you'll likely get in. If not, you can easily stroll to a no-reservations required place). The Friday junkanoo was awesome--terrific music, dancing, and AMAZING FOOD (lots of seafood and other foods, too!) We took out sailboats twice, so easy to just walk over, no wait, no long talk, just grab your life jackets and go. Unfortunately it was windy and cold 3 of the 5 days we were there, so we never went snorkeling even though originally we wanted to. We had a wild night at the pub dancing with people until 3am but also very laid-back, quiet, romantic times where we felt we were the only ones on the earth (by the fire pits at night, on the private island, etc). Sometimes the drink service was a bit slow, but the staff was very nice. We also had the problem of our rooms not being ready when we arrived and the staff suggested we go eat a meal, but instead of throwing a fit like half the other people we just said "ok" and asked if there was a restroom to change into beach clothes and wait by the beach because we weren't hungry. I changed, brought my bag back to the front desk for them to hold onto until the room was ready, and it was already ready! So everyone else who had also just arrived and went to lunch complaining didn't even realize our rooms were ready just a few minutes later if you bothered to ask and were polite. Also, the resort is only about 15 minutes from the airport, which is awesome We used the tennis courts daily and never had to wait, always stocked with rackets, balls and water. And we went for runs outside of the resort (I mapped a couple of routes online before the trip)--I ran alone sometimes and always felt safe even as a 27-year old female alone. I never felt safe like this at places in Mexico. The place was very clean, too, the staff was always cleaning, pruning, the beach was combed every day before we got there, etc. Construction was taking place when we went, but not too loud with the ocean waves crashing and just meant there were less people when we went! Overall I would definitely go again, but of course I am still pleased we went during the 65% off deal, with the $400 air credit and got my husband's 10% off firefighter discount! Also, when we left, we got to the airport about 3 hours before our flight and sped through customs; the agent was able to get us on a flight that was currently boarding at no extra charge so we left only 20 minutes after getting to the airport! Having a good attitude makes the world of difference, and people will do a lot more for you--so go prepared to have fun and relax, and people will treat you right in the Bahamas!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are quite and by smaller pools and hot tubs no one else at the resort seem to know abou...
