“Love Compass Point”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

It is a cute spot right on the water. The rooms are very small and quaint. The property is amazing and the restaurant is wonderful and priced right. You get a bit of an out island feeling when you stay at Compass Point. It is a great place for a destination wedding.

Although I am originally from Nassau and have been here hundreds of times on vacation, and to visit family, this was the first time I ventured to Compass Point. This is my new favorite spot in Nassau. It is away from all of the tourist stuff found on Bay St. which is great! It is tranquil and upscale. This place makes you feel as if you have left the hustle and bustle of daily life behind.

The people here are friendly and helpful. If you want good Bahamian food you will find it right here at the restaurant. Even locals come here to eat and this is saying something because Bahamians are definitely lovers of good food. The pool area overlooks the ocean and is a truly beautiful spot. I would recommend you renting a car if you want to see the island, but remember downtown Bay St. is a parking nightmare. But, you can find really amazing beaches around the island.

I highly recommend Clifton Heritage National Park. Bring snorkeling gear and walk out to this amazingly pristine spot with the bluest water you have ever seen. Also, as a historian I can tell you this is a great place to get a glimpse into plantation life as the remains of an the old great house and slave quarters are at the park. There is so much to do in Nassau which avoids the congested downtown are. Go to Compass Point to get away and relax.

Room Tip: Small poolside cottages have microwaves, toaster ovens and refrigerators.

We didn't stay at Compass Point; we stayed at a condo two doors away. However, we visited the resort several times. The staff was very friendly. We had a delicious breakfast there one morning. We sat outside on the deck, right next to the water. The view cannot be beat. The waitress was delightful and the food was great! Menu prices are rather high but the ambiance more than makes up for it. The resort grounds are beautiful and the brightly colored huts have a happy feel to them. Take a walk on the pier and you'll feel like you're standing in the ocean.

I did not stay at the Resort but instead at a private house next door on Love Beach. We ate dinner at the restaurant on the first night on the island since no one wanted to cook after a long day of traveling. We sat right out on the corner of the restaurant and if the wind hadn't been blowing so strong post-storm, it would have been a perfect setting. However, the food was only average? Our group of eight each tried something different and no one was really wowed by their meal.

Where Compass Point won us back was with the spa. This small space was a perfect way to start our vacation- a couples massage. The ladies in the spa know what they are doing! The price was very reasonable for a resort massage. My aunt enjoyed two massages during our week on the island- her first was that good!

The resort is very cute looking with multicolored huts/rooms. I would definitely consider staying there is we make a return trip to the island.

PS- It is about a 25 minute drive into downtown Nassau if you have your own car.

We stayed there for 3 nights and love everything about this place. It's very calm, peaceful as there are in total only 12 huts or so and its not allowed for outsiders. We enjoyed taking walk on the beach on sunset. But there is no beach for going in the water as there as rocks everywhere. So if you want to be in ocean water for swimming and stuff then you have to go some other place.

It was a very different experience living in huts which are clean spacious, bathroom is a little small though but it didn't cause any problem. There hot tub not that clean by evening, if you want to enjoy it then go there in the morning.

Okay types pool and pool side dinner.

Restaurant location is really nice right beside the ocean. Food is good.

Overall I loved this places as its away from crowd and had everything I was looking for.

Room Tip: Book early like 1 month or 2 in advance as ocean facing huts get booked very fast.

If the measure of a place's greatness is by how well it makes us forget the rest of the world, then Compass Point ranks among the best. You'll instantly enter vacation mode walking on the premises, knowing you have no obligation but to relax and have fun. Your options are beach, pool, bar, and porch. The room was a hybrid of rustic and modern; comfortable, clean, and provided enough amenities to add convenience. Love the Aveda products especially. The cooking area was a nice addition since you don't have many options for food on the resort - however you will find superior quality at the restaurant. Make sure you sit right up against the water for the best view of the ocean at sunset!

As for the courteous staff... Special thanks to Aneeka for her friendliness at the desk and for going above and beyond her usual duties to ensure we knew some local insider tips, such as walking down the street to get local flavor in the form of a conch salad. Nadia was awesome at the bar/restaurant and she made us feel like her friends after being there just a couple of days.

If I had to name one drawback.. and it was a big one.. the choice of soundtrack in the bar/restaurant/pool area. It was constantly looping the worst 90s music you could think of. A suggestion.. if you are going to use satellite radio, go with a more island/tropical theme to fit the setting, perhaps a Beach Boys or Jimmy Buffett station. Fortunately, once you are back in your room, all you hear is the ocean so you can easily leave that soundtrack behind.

Other than that, I would definitely go back for another true Bahamian experience.

Room Tip: Go with 117!

We stayed here and it was absolutely amazing! If you're looking for something off the beaten path and not touristy, this is the place. It was breathtaking! The cabins reminded me of treehouse bungalows and all have a romantic getaway type of feel. I made great friends, had great fun and had an absolutely amazing experience. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a personal, private yet very fun experience. You will not be disappointed! Ask for Aneeka. She is the beautiful woman, behind the greeting desk, waiting for you with a big warm and friendly smile.
