Had a perfect vacation in Nassau, in part thanks to the house and owners Tina and Ian. The house is well equipped and suited our needs perfectly ( two divers ), TV , AC, great garden , grill, in a quiet neighborhood, close to the beach and in walking distance from the supermarket and a local fish market. Owners are very accommodating and helpful...will return! Thanks !!

“The cottage is perfect!”

The Silk Cotton Cottage is truly perfect for us. My husband and I are very independent travelers. We tend to stay away from the large resorts/hotels and prefer a place that is more home like while avoiding the typical touristy places for our living quarters. Being around a hotel or resort full of people is kind of overwhelming. We like places that are set up with a kitchen so we can cook for ourselves when we are tired of eating out. Hotels don't really offer the privacy or comfort away from home that we like. We like to throw ourselves into the culture of the places we are visiting and part of that is living like a local. The Silk Cotton Cottage definitely provided us that and so much more.

To start, the owners Tina and Ian are such lovely hosts. Their home is the large home at the front of the property and the cottage is tucked away in the back. They helped to arrange a taxi to get us from the airport to the cottage, showed us around their property, took us to the food store to get groceries, and gave us tons of advice and tips of things to do. These people are truly so kind and generous, I'd invite them into our home for a visit without any hesitations. But they also were very respectful of our privacy too. They would say hello in passing just to make sure everything at the cottage was to our liking. Truly phenomenal hosts.

The property itself is immaculately maintained from the gardening to the inside of the cottage. The pictures of the cottage do not at all show how lovely the property and cottage are. It person, the cottage and property were so much nicer than what I got from the photos. There are little private nooks on the property where you can eat outside, read, relax, or even bird watch while sipping coffee/cocktails. The cottage is a lot larger than I expected. A large bedroom, a separate sitting room, full kitchen, mudroom, and bathroom. The cottage is set up so nicely. It's large enough so you're not tripping over your spouse or your luggage. Of course, there are tons of windows so the air flow through the cottage is such that you typically don't ever need to turn on the AC. We only turned on the AC once, and that was when I was getting ready for a wedding and I was trying to get my hair to cooperate while I was curling it. They even have a lovely outdoor shower that is simply wonderful. Not a detail was missed in providing what you might need. There are tons of towels, dishes and cookware, coffee maker, microwave, full sized fridge, ironing board, a bookshelf full of books and games, a washing machine, grocery tote bags, umbrellas, TV, and so much more. The WiFi and phone in the room were great too so we could look things up and arrange reservations.

The property itself is away from the busy tourist district so it is quiet and peaceful. However, it's no hassle at all to take a bus or a taxi into town. If Tina or Ian are headed in the same direction, they are often willing to drop you off where you need. I personally like to be away from the touristy areas. I like to visit the touristy areas, but sleeping/living in the touristy areas can be very overwhelming. The cottage is a short ride to anywhere you want to go, of course depending on traffic. There are also many sites that are within walking distance.

My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We were in town for a short time and a lot of our time was spent with my friends who were getting married who are native to the island. They even came over to the cottage for an evening and also commented on how nice it was.

Don't hesitate in booking the cottage, it's truly lovely. I definitely look forward to coming back to stay at the Silk Cotton Cottage. I'd never consider staying elsewhere while in Nassau.

“Honeymoon Trip”

This was actually our second visit to Silk Cotton Cottage and loved it so much we decided to come back and stay during our honeymoon! Like our last stay everything was neat as a pin and very clean. The garden is beautiful with different areas to sit and relax and grill. A nice addition since our last stay is an enclosed outdoor shower in the garden which was great for rinsing off after a day at the beach. I don't think we even used the indoor shower during our trip! The beach is just down the street and you can get fresh fish every day at the fish market nearby. Ian and Tina were wonderful and had lots of tips and advice for things to do around Nassau. Ian and Tina were always available to answer questions and help out with anything we needed, but never intruded on our privacy. My wife and I will definitely stay here on our next trip!

“Home is where your heart is!”

From the moment we booked Silk Cotton Cottage we had constant contact with Ian and Tina. Before arriving we were given directions and activities to consider during our stay. With my wife and I staying a total of nine days, Tina made sure to give us a whole list of suggestions for local restaurants, historic sites, and popular hang outs of the locals.

The cottage is located about a 1/2 mile from the beach (walking distance) and close to nearby restaurants and grocery store. The cottage is perfect for couples who are looking to relax and get away from it all. The cottage had all the amenities of home; with a great outdoor shower. We used the local buses (jitneys @ $1.25 pp per ride) to get around town. Most of the streets are one way streets, so once you know what buses run on that street, it is pretty simple to get around. Everyone we came in contact with while on the island were extremely nice.

During our stay we spent an entire afternoon with Ian and Tina on their catamaran. What a great time! We were able to see sting rays, learn to make and eat Ian's fresh Conch salad (awesome), grill brats, snorkel, walk on the beach, and catch some fish (blue runners).

In closing, if you are looking to get out of the tourist corridor (Paradise Island) and live as the Bahamian's, this is the place for you. Ian and Tina truly make you feel like family. We will be returning in the very near future.

“Outstanding Hosts and adorable, spotless cottage!”

We arrived at the cottage, where the owners promptly let us know that they would take us shopping as soon as we were settled. They were always so hospitable! They didn't mind the dozen questions we had for them:) The cottage was spotless, cute as a button, and perfect for the two of us. We walked just about everywhere, but once in a while took the bus. It was pretty simple. Any 9 bus going downtown on Shirley, then the 10 bus to go to the fish fry or Cable Beach. After dinner, drinks (at some waterfront bars), or going to the casino, we would take a cab back to the cottage. Walking during the day gave us the opportunity to see things that you wouldn't on a bus or taxi.
We highly recommend the fish fry and Matisse!
There was also a full size fridge, stove and a grill. A very comfortable bed and free wi-fi.
Thank you so much T and I, for making our vacation so much fun and worry free.

“Extremely quaint! Nice and private.”

This was our first trip to Nassau. I've had excellent luck using TripAdvisor's Vacation Rentals and this was no exception.

The owners were wonderful. Very nice and helpful. Gave us a ride to the grocery store on arrival. Picked us up one day while we were walking on the road and gave us a ride to Paradise Island. Gave us good tips.

The weather did not cooperate with our trip. The first day was dry, but the rest of week was rain. We didn't let it deter us, but it did change the trip.

The cottage is on a super nice lot. Lots of little sitting areas, trees, grass. But we didn't get to enjoy any of it due the rain. I think that would have made a big difference in our trip
as we had to spend more time in the cottage than planned.

It has an extremely small shower. Don't put anything on the floor, as you won't be able to pick it up :-) But it has a king size bed, and large bedroom.

“Relaxing stay in charming cottage, warm and helpful hosts.”

Nice peaceful location set in the beautiful gardens of the main house. Spacious for two people, although the shower is pretty small. Everything you need is provided including wifi, iron, barbecue, beach towels and chairs. Buy your fresh fish straight of the boats 5 minutes away at the bottom of the street. But the nicest thing was the hospitality of the owners, Tina and Ian, who took me to the market the day we arrived, and were always so warm and helpful with whatever we needed. Privacy is yours as you want it, but they are ready to assist if you need something, and as natives of the island know everything and everybody! Highly recommended .
