Atlantis - Harborside Resort
Ranked #4 of 14 Hotels in Paradise Island
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Harborside Resort is a great value versus the expense of staying in one of the Atlantis hotel towers (Beach, Coral, Royal, Reef and Cove). Harborside has beautiful accommodations with fully-equipped kitchens, washer-dryer, dining area (with seating for 4 to 6 guests depending on the size of the apartment), jacuzzi tubs and beautiful balcony with table and chairs. The property was well-kept, the staff is amazingly attentive and there are shuttles that take you to each Atlantis Tower until midnite. Harborside guests have use of the entire property at the Atlantis for no additional fee. It is nice to have this beautiful oasis to retreat to at the end of the day. There is manned security gate that checks every car that comes on the property. Harborside has its own beaufitul pool and small gym and a restaurant called The Point (which has amazing views). For a small fee, there is a shuttle that leaves every morning to take guests to the supermarket to buy groceries to provide an option to eating at the expensive Atlantis restaurants. I mean how many $20 hamburgers can you have before you completely blow your vacation budget??? The Manager, Judith Thompson, is first-rate and takes each guest's comments or concerns seriously and makes sure that they are addressed efficiently. There was a bottleneck of guests, taxis and shuttles and Ms. Thompson was out of her office making sure that the bottleneck was clearly quickly. She did not delegate. She was completely hands-on. In many properties, you never even know the name of the manager much less get to see them actively managing the property. When you have a manager that cares that much about the guests experience, you know that you are going to have a first-class experience. Kudos to Harborside and their staff!! Keep up the good work!

We spent 7 wonderful nights in a one-bedroom Harborside Villa. The accommodations were very nice and spacious enough for two people. The staff were all very friendly and remembered our names throughout our visit. We visited during low season and there was work going on around the pool that was noisy and distracting but we enjoyed ourselves none the less. The food at The Point was good but best to go Royal Towers for better dining options.

An Atlantis vacation is pricey but worth it. You can do as much or as little as you like. There is something for everyone and it is a great place for families.

This was first stay for wife and myself. We are both retirees and like to stay close to our comfort, so were both apprehensive over this "out-of-the-box" trip to this large international resort. I cannot say enough for the resort and staff in making us feel special from the start. Everyone on site made this a most enjoyable week in every way. I travel a lot and have not stayed in a property that matched this property in service, courtesy, friendliness, and specialness. We were there for a week in October, and it really was sad for us to leave. We will be back, and intend to stay longer.
My comments so far are for the Harborside Resort itself, as that was so special. But I could go on much longer for all the in-room amenities, and other amenities and attractions available throughout the huge Atlantis resort accessible by shuttle.
We have four married children and 10 grandchildren. This resort fits them all in any combination. We will be touting for them to travel to this resort with their children or as couples. We will be glad to baby sit the grandchildren to help them get away. We would feel honored to be able to offer them this fantastic gift and opportunity.
Everyone at Harborside, thank you so much for unforgettable memories.
Yours,
Lynn and Ann

The pros,

The grounds are very elaborate. Pools are nice and the water slides are an all day event for our boys. The action is non stop, as there is more to do then they can accomplish in a single day.

The water parks are part of the room rate. A similar water park at Disney would set you back 90.00 per person if my recall serves me correct. So that would be an additional 360.00 per day on a family of 4.

The staff is friendly and go out of their way to assist you with very attentive service. The locals also are very service oriented as this is a gratuity based economy very depended on tourism. Which is cool, if your okay tipping along the way. From the time you get off the plane, till you get back on, someone is willing to assist, for a tip.

The cons,

It is expensive for food. One dinner, pizza, 1 water, 1 soda, 2 beers was 70.00 and change. Dinner was in the 145.00 range. Also included a 15% gratuity. All restaurants we visited included a 15% gratuity in the bill. Some service was bad, but still had to pay gratuity. For our family, that decreases the tips across the board. If we have great service, tip is in the 20 to 25% range. Although also willing to tip 5 to 10% for poor service. Thus with flat tipping, everyone got the billed 15% and promoted a lower value of service from the employees.

The grocery store was equally expensive for food. One bag of tortillas was 9 dollars for a bag of 10.

The harbor side resort is run down. We have traveled to many locations in several countries, the harbor side is okay at best. On the property, the cove was the best up kept resort.

Our kitchen was very poorly appointed. There is a generous list of kitchen items. However, they many were missing. We took the list to the front desk requesting the items to be replaced. As travelers with children spending 50 to 60 nights on vacation per year. We like to cook ourselves and eat the room at a kitchen table for a sense of family.

Overall, great fun, okay hotel.

Room Tip: Stay at one of the other hotels on the property, closer to the water action. You have a bus to get t...

Arrived September 27 for 7 days at Harborside. One hour delay in immagrations due to only 2 agents to check people in. Luggage available and Cheryls taxi[furgusson] ready outside with bahama mama samples! Excellent and informative ride[$70 rdtrip-add tips], highly recommend. 1BR Premiun room in Bldg 2 4th floor ready for us at 3pm-requested better view as palm trees blocked views over the pool-nothing available due to low occupancy and construction and they told us they were trying keep guests in bldg 1-2-7. The front staff were excellent-personable-helpful-friendly. Housekeeping came on Monday and did an excellent job-even finished dishes in sink I left to soak!! We loved food to go-we scheduled 5-6pm but they called and delivered at 4pm and placed everything in the refrigerator without asking-very professional-would highly recommend them! Love the room-very large refrig-microwave-bose spkrs-jacuzzi-balcony-large dine rm table-somewhat hard mattress bed. Two sinks-separate shower stall that needs upgradeing. very noisy bathroom shower vent.
Ate at Johnny rockets first night-not best food/service but loved the dance show of disco staying alive! Carmines-Murrays-Bimini rd-martinque in Marina closed alot during week we were there-we loved Murrays and the pizza place next door-Bimini rd was fine but expensive $100. Did not care for Carmines attitude with staff-they offered us to sit at the bar-tables were 45minute wait-at least 4 tables were empty -poor service to take orders-high prices-we left right away. Ate at Candies in Fish fry-walked over bridge-10minutes-walked into downtown-took #10 bus around Gucci store $1.25pp./way Met people from cruise ship from Oklahoma-convinced them to eat at Candies vs Twin Bros-cheaper-recieved free drink-fresh food -huge portions-loved grouper finger-lobster pasta and drinks! We also ate across from harborside at dunkin donuts[$7,50 for 1/2dz dounts] nice service and staff-also ate Anthonys-very bad food and service with our waitress. saw Miami heat at The Cove seaglass and saw the prime minister downtown by palament! ferry ride $4pp/one way was nice-be careful getting onto ferry from nassau-need walk across narrow cement walkway above water. Be careful at Shopping mall across from Marina as there are timeshare agents always there asking you to attend presentations and offering a meal as well as walking outside Harborside by the guards-resort next door- always has people coming to you to attend presentations and buy your timeshare!! Shuttles were always available all over and very clean-comfortable-very nice drivers. We fell in love with the Royal Towers and the Cove was our favorite-beautiful landscape-ZEN type envirnoment-private pool/beach. We missed seeing the large manta rays as they were released and it seemed to us less rays and sharks as in the past. The Dig was very nice and loved the water slides-leap of faith and the cat who always sits waiting for hamburger handouts at the food stand close to the dig and locker room area. Very relaxing vacation-weather was high 85/76low-very little rain. We loved harborside pool and The Point drinks-food not very tastefull and as everyone has said food is very expensive all over plus 15% auto tips. Would love to see the casino smoke free and an entrance/exit for those who just walk through-main isle to walk very congested!! walked from Royal Towers all way through casino to Beach towers. stores high class and $$$$. We took alot of pics and videos during the week and felt very safe! Crowds were very low and at times we felt like the only ones at Atlantis due to the time of the year. We had a great time-would probably go back every 5 years-so many other places visit in mexico-cruise ships-Disney-etc.

Room Tip: Bldg 2-4th floor with elevator-very quiet, dispite open traffic tunnel next door,

Hoping this helps some of you before booking at Atlantis!
I am not one to complain much as I do not require a lot of fancy stuff when traveling. My husband and I were on our much anticipated honeymoon and stayed here at the harbor side. *First off, when we booked, we were not told that this was more of a type of time share place. The entire week, we were hounded by front desk to take a tour and talk about buying in which we were not interested in. But even though we said that they still just kept calling.
*Another huge problem - THE MEAL PLAN - Do NOT buy this!! We were back and fourth about it before we went. We asked about it at the front desk upon checkin. They said it was the best value and that we should take advantage of it. SO WE DID. We were told that we had to buy it right then at check in and that we COULD NOT CANCEL IT!!!!.
Anyway, we figured we were on our honeymoon so we splurged and did it. During our week stay ONLY 3 OF THE 8 RESTURANTS WERE OPEN!!!!
They kept telling us that they would be open "tomorrow". And this was not true! They even at one point one morning told us that one of them WAS OPEN RIGHT NOW so we took a 15 minute walk to the restaurant and it was closed!! We ended up eating at the same place every day because we had already paid for it! BTW water is 12.00 and is not included in meals!
I truly feel that they ripped us off. When we complained about it during check out they had nothing to say about it except that it wasn't peek season and that was why they were closed. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO TELL US BEFORE!! They did not comp us any money or ANYTHING. AND THEN....they said we could have cancelled at any time. When I stated that we were told we couldn't cancel, they said "maybe" someone would have made an exception but since we never asked there was nothing to be done now.
**And note- housekeeping didn't show up for three days! We had to call and have fresh towels delivered.
Again, not one to complain a lot and for the record - this resort is BEAUTIFUL beyond words!!! The pools, slides beaches are all amazing!! The staff around the resort could not have been any nicer or more friendly.
Even the locals downtown say that The resort itself will rip you off because there isn't any competition for them. The locals say that!
So it the end.....DO NOT buy the meal plan!!!
One more important thing!! One the website it says there is a free shuttle to and from the airport every 30 minutes.....THEY WILL ONLY TAKE YOU IF YOU BOOK THE RIDE BEFORE YOU EVEN GET THERE!!. This did not make any sense to us. They would not even give us a ride and they were going there and had room in the shuttle. We ended up taking cabs!
I was just very disappointed in the level of service from the hotel itself.

Thank you for choosing Harborside and thanks for posting your feedback on your stay. Based on your review it seems that you did not thoroughly enjoy you stay with us. This is unfortunate especially since it was such a special occasion. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly to get more specific details on your concerns. I can be contacted at hsresponse@atlantisparadise.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

This is the first time that we have used our Star Options to go to another resort other than our Home Resort in Florida. After several calls to Owner Services, we did manage to get 8 nightss at Harborside at the end of September. We arrived at the resort before the normal check-in time but were promised a suite with a view, so we were willing to wait. Check-in was efficient and very pleasant and welcoming. While waiting for the room to be ready, we went across to the Point Restaurant for a late lunch. I wanted to eat something local, so ordered the Conch Burger...big mistake! Tasteless and hard fried shreds of calamari??. My husband ordered a burger and he was satisfied with it...however, very pricey - lunch came to $55 for two burgers and two drinks! After our room was ready, we went across and it was what we expected for a Starwood property.
The best part was that we were able to use the Atlantis facilities and were provided with convenient bus shuttles to and from the resort.
The pool at Harborside was clean and we spent a couple of days enjoying this facility.
We did not appreciate being constantly bombarded by the Concierge to attend the usual "90 minutes sales session" for the handsome sum of $100. I mentioned to her that we were not in the market, but we were called several times and also were sent a letter inviting us to attend. We had to be firm and told them that we were not there to go to sales pitches and to not waste their time and money on this with us.

All the staff that we encountered at the Harborside Resort during our stay were very friendly, pleasant and professional, as were all the local people that we met outside the property. Bahamians are friendly and welcoming everywhere that we went. Our only shock was on how pricey everything was...supermarket food, water, and restaurant meals.

The ferry boat close to the resort is a pleasant convenience if one does not have a rental car. We used it several times.

With all the publicity given to the Fish Fry, we tried it one afternoon and found it to be very greasy and not upto standard. However, we were told by good friends to try the Cricket Club (which is located opposite the Fish Fry area). Thank God we discovered this wonderful place. The service is slow only because they prepare everything very fresh. We trudged there for 3 meals, because we liked everything on the menu and wanted to try the variety they offered. The food is good value (by Bahamian standards), very tasty and fresh. We have recommended this place to everyone that we spoke to.
We will definitely return.
