“Perfect getaway for quiet beach location - beautiful house and beach!”
Reviewed 23 June 2009

5 of us stayed in the blue villa which had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, plus a fold-out couch. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to eat and cook and the staff took us to the supermarket to buy food. It was extremely clean, and very up to date. It also had a great screened-in patio where we ate breakfast every morning and looked at the water. The staff was so nice and made us feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet place to stay with a beautiful beach!

I booked a snorkel excursion with paradise cove based upon the reviews on this site; and I must say it was 100% accurate and made my trip so very memorable.

We passed through the crowded lined on fellow cruise voyagers and boarded the paradise cove van by ourselves (we took the first bus in and last one out). Our driver was awesome and gave us a detailed tour during the drive to the cove. Once there it is clear why they call it paradise. Apart from the storm ravaged other parts of the island, this area was untouched. The staff was great and so friendly. It was my first time (and hers) snorkeling but after the detailed tutorial and the constant vigilance of the young man with the binoculars, we felt confident enough to go to the deepest regions of the area and explore.

I would HIGHLY recommend this outing. I’m not sure how it stacks up against the over the counter cruise package but it was much cheaper and super fun!

I can't wait to go back!!

Our family rented one of the two cottages at Paradise Cove for the week of March 14th to March 21st, 2009. I both found and ended up choosing the place based on Trip Advisor reviews. Our family loves to snorkel, and to have a quiet place to stay right on the beach, at a good snorkeling area sounded perfect.
We ended up having a great time, as I thought we would, despite 2 days of rain. The cottage was next to new and very clean. The best part was a large screened in porch with a table and chairs, that looked right over the ocean. We would sit in the porch and drink our morning coffees, while listening to the sounds of the waves and looking out over the ocean. In the evening we would eat our dinner on the porch, sip a glass of wine and watch the sun go down over the ocean. In fact, in every room in the cottage we could hear the waves. Every day I went for a good 30 minute beach walk and only once passed another person. The beach (beside the resort) was very natural looking, ungroomed and covered with shells, as well as tree stumps. The water level had obviously risen in recent years. We were amazed to find many sand dollars (a different type than we have in Canada) and conch shells, as well as washed- up coral sea fans. The staff at this family-run business were also excellent and very friendly. Paradise Cove Beach Resort was truly the perfect place if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful vacation right on the ocean.
The snorkelling was very good, although we did find the water quite cooler compared to other Caribbean destination we had been to. I would consider bringing a wetsuit if I came back, as I found myself really shivering after about 30 minutes of snorkelling.(They did rent wetsuits I believe at the resort) The water was around 75 degrees F, but it often felt cooler as the tides came in. I would describe the water as (Canadian) lake water temperature. When you first enter the water there is a large grassy area, where there was little fish to be found. Once you got out to the actual reef area there was quite a lot to see. We saw a large group of parrot fish, many yellow tails, some angel fish, some barracuda and a few blue tang. Some more unusual sightings for me were a stingray, a group of squid, a sea turtle, a large lobster and a very large ray with a wing span of 5-6 feet (which I believe was either an eagle or manta ray)! Each time I went out I saw something different.

Some things to take note of:
- I would highly suggest to rent a car because Paradise Cove is in an isolated area and the grocery store is a good 15+ minute drive away.(not walking distance) When you arrive at the airport there is no one there to pick you up. Barry does give you the option of taking a cab to the Best Western hotel to catch their shuttle bus there. For us, a 1-2 hour wait with 3 tired kids and a need to get groceries, we quickly realized the shuttle bus was not going to work. We really enjoyed the freedom and opportunity to explore the island ourselves. Lucayan National Park at low tide was a must see. The rippling white sand beach that stretched on for miles, with the aqua- coloured ocean was breath- taking
· If you like drinking a glass of wine, there was no wine glasses in our cottage
· There is no large frying pan for cooking your morning bacon and eggs (we improvised and used a pot)
· Groceries were about double the cost for us. For example a jug of milk (which we buy daily) was $8 and change US. A family-sized frozen lasagna was $18 US.
· Paradise Cove will run a tab for you if you are there for the week (for any food, drinks, or rentals) and you can pay at end of your stay with a credit card.

Our family really enjoyed our week and would seriously consider booking with Paradise Cove again, especially if we could find a reasonable direct flight, close to home.

Like many reviewers, we didn't actually stay in the units overnight. But we were shuttled in first thing in the morning, took the last shuttle out. Hated to leave.
I have to say, we weren't well treated on Grand Bahama, other than our visit to Paradise Cove. Often felt as though they'll gladly take our money but would prefer not to have us actually be there. Paradise Cove was a welcome exception.
First, during our research from home, Barry responded to emails promptly and informatively. Our driver, Nathan, had a wonderful wealth of knowledge as he became our self-appointed 'tour guide' on our ride to the facility. A warm welcome awaited us, a make yourselves at home attitude.
A wonderful beach for beachcombing. if that's what you like. Snorkeling was a big hit for all of us who availed ourselves. Cocktails were reasonably priced and a wide selection were readily available. The food is good but limited, although the conch fritters there were incredibly excellent, we highly recommend them whether you've never had them or are a conch gourmand.
Kick back, relax, THIS is what you want in the Bahamas.

We did not stay here, we just booked the snorkeling tour and had lunch, but the staff was very friendly and helpful, the beach was beautiful, and the snorkeling was amazing! We are definitely going to try to go again. I took 2 underwater cameras worth of photos and could have taken a dozen more. The coral itself was beautiful, but we saw all kinds of beautiful fish, immature conch, a sea cucumber, a school of rays, barracuda... What an amazing experience. That has to be the coolest thing I have ever experienced. I was a little worried about my husband because he is not a strong swimmer, but we opted to use flotation belts and that made it so much easier. Paradise Cove offers inexpensive wetsuit rentals and has several "rafts" anchored out in the water so you have a place to rest without damaging the coral. The price includes picking you up from your resort and dropping you back off, and you can stay all day if you like. A great value and a wonderful experience! Definitely go if you are going to visit Grand Bahama.

This is a wonderful getaway. We stayed at the bungalows Jan 13-15, and wish we had booked more days. Completely new to snorkling, Barry Smith gave us the best introduction we could dream of. From then on, we simply had the time of our lives. You can read about the fish elsewhere, but on our last day Barry plus a guest - Brian - caught 10 fullgrown lobsters. The bungalow, in which we stayed, were perfect. Almost brand new and very well equipped. The sunset from the veranda was undescripable. The staff were so friendly, and the atmosphere and tranquility of Paradise Cove Beach is so unique. We can't wait to go back and visit Barry, Yvonne, Smitty and the rest. Could not recommand this place more

We did not actually stay at Paradise Cove Beach Resort but will definetly book there on our next trip to Freeport. The villas are new, very comfortable and direclty on the beach. It is a beautiful secluded beach resort with some of the best snorkeling we have seen in a long time. We saw eel, rays, nurse shark and many species of beautiful and colorfull fish. The reef is beautiful! The owners are very gracious and helpful. We rented scooters in town and our party of ten rode out there to spend the day. The food was great and good price. We were very blessed to have found this wonderful resort, it was the highlight of our week.
